Lena believed she just might pace a whole in the floor. She knew Anthony was working as hard as he could, but she wanted to know where her fiance now. Yesterday. Three or four days ago when he had apparently gone missing and somehow Lena hadn't even noticed.

Guilt and fear twisted knots in her stomach, and she hardly noticed she hadn't eaten since Sappho called. She'd been surviving on coffee and nerves. Still, she made Jamie a sandwich, because it seemed important that he eat. Then, rather unceremoniously, she sat it in front of him before looking back to Anthony to watch him working.

Anthony had been working without sleep, running mostly on coffee and sheer force of will. It was usually easier to find immortals, they each had their own separate, distinct energy. Humans weren't...interchangeable, no, it wasn't that, but in such a small area with such a dense population, sometimes they overlapped.

He'd run a hand over the photo album so often, he'd know it by touch anywhere. A map of the city sat on the other side of him, as his fingers traced the shape of the neighborhoods. He was so close, he could feel it in his bones.

Jamie ate his sandwich because there was nothing else for him to do, and if he didn't, everyone else would just worry. He wasn't really hungry, but he was grateful for the distraction. "You ought to eat something too, Lena," he said.

"He's right," Nikkie said, from her post near the coffee maker. "I'll make you something. And Anthony, since he tends to forget to eat, even under the best circumstances."

	Lena wasn't going to argue, so she just nodded at Nikkie. "I guess so. Feel like I might barf it right back up, but I'll give it a go." Her eyes were transfixed on the map Anthony was looking at. God the city was so big and Thomas could be anywhere. What if they had taken him out of the city? (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Nikkie pulled things out of the refrigerator, making a pair of sandwiches for her friends. She passed one to Lena, depositing the other plate next to Anthony's elbow. She got a glass of water for Lena, and a mug of coffee for Anthony. "Oi, you," she said, poking him. "Eat this for me real quick. So you don't faint, like that other time."

"I thought we weren't mentioning that," Anthony murmured, picking up the food with his free hand. The other one never left the city map, his fingers kept tracing over it. His hand kept coming back to a section of industrial neighborhoods, almost without thinking about it. And that was usually a good sign, it usually meant whoever he was searching for was close by.

"At least a couple bites," Nikkie said. "Last thing anyone wants is anyone getting sick or falling over."

	Lena did as she was told, lifting the sandwich and taking a few bites. "So we can come right? I mean when you figure out where he is, I'm totally coming with you." She didn't care if that demon was there any more, now he had fucked with the man she loved and she wasn't going to let the demon come between them. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"As long as the place isn't surrounded by demons," Anthony said absently. "I'm not leading anyone into what might turn into an ambush." He took a long drink from his coffee, index finger moving in ever-smaller circles.

"But that's just warehouses," he muttered to himself. "Near the docks, of all things. Though that does make sense..." He trailed off, muttering to himself in Italian and scribbling notes.

"Good news, the language change means he's close to figuring something out," Nikkie said, tidying up the dishes.

	The moment Lena heard there was good news, she started drumming her fingers against the table absently. "If there's demons we're calling Michael and his flaming sword, right? I mean, we're going to fight for him, right? Because like hell I'm just leaving him there because of a few demons." Lena had made up her mind. They were getting Thomas back today. "If it comes down to that, we can definitely call Michael, but I don't think..." He tapered off again, blinking a few times. "You know how, when you've burned incense in a room, and someone else comes in later and even though it's not lit, they can still smell it? This presence is like that, like...they used to be there, but they're not anymore. And there was only one high-level presence anyway, like a...a buzzing in the back of my brain. Like insects." He drummed his own fingers on the map. "What does Beelzebub want with Thomas?" he asked absently.

"Here," he said finally, pointing to a block of nothing but warehouses, near the harbor. "I don't know exactly which one, but at least it's more than I had yesterday."

	"BEELZEBUB?!" Lena yelled out, because just hearing that name shocked her. Of course it made sense. Beelzebub was the Lord of the Flies, wasn't he? And she had killed a fly- "He wants him because I killed him," Lena said lifelessly. "The other day. I killed him." She glanced at Jamie, her face schooled into an expression of guilt. "Jesus. 	Jamie jumped about a foot at her shout, because it startled him out of his endless cycle of misery. "I sort of wish he'd flown into a fly zapper," Jamie said bitterly. "Or flown into a windshield. Just get himself trapped in an endless cycle of fly death. But yeah, let's get going, the sooner we get there, the sooner Dad can come home." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Lena was already getting her shoes on and she grabbed Jamie's to hand over to him as well. Shrugging on a coat, she said, "we should bring water at the very least. Just- I remember how thirsty I was-" When a sob threatened to over take her, Lena just went to grab a thermos before heading towards the door. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"Bring a lot," Jamie agreed. "I remember the nurses had to tell me to take it slow, or I'd make myself sick. Which I managed to do anyway."

Nikkie had rounded up everyone else's coats, Anthony's map, and one photo from the album, that she paperclipped to the map. "I know the drill," she said, in response to Anthony's raised eyebrow.

"Off we go," Anthony said, shepherding everyone out the door. He figured the best way to keep everyone from dwelling on things, was to give them a goal to focus on.

Lena climbed into the car and the moment Jamie joined her, she leaned against him. Her fingers drummed against the thermos she was gripping so tightly her knuckles were turning white.

They were going to save Thomas. He was going to be fine. Oh god, she hoped he wasn't in terrible shape. The idea that he could be injured...that he could have been tortured was awful. She didn't even look out the window as the drove. She just stared at her fingers and remembered to breathe, willing that they get there quickly.

Nikkie drove as Anthony gave her directions, looking up from the map every now and again to check that they were in the right place. Jamie say in the back with Lena, doing his best not to wear a hole in the floor with all the foot tapping he was doing.

Finally, Anthony had Nikkie pull over and park the car. Nikkie got out, grabbing Thomas' coat that she'd taken with her, just in case. "So where are we going, Saint GPS?" she asked, handing him the map and picture.

Anthony slowly revolved on the spot, the map folded down to the neighborhood they were in, his fingers tracing over the picture of Thomas and baby Jamie. "That way," he finally said, pointing off to his left, setting off at a brisk pace.

Thomas was lying on the floor, still bound so tightly it hurt. His last dose of heroin had been hours ago now, and the tide of pain was ebbing in. He was sweating, despite the fact that his skin was freezing. In the midst of all of it though, he had had enough wits about him to lie on his side as much as he could. Not that there was anything in his stomach, nor had there been for days, but he could still vomit bile up and he really didn't want to choke on it and die.

When the door opened, Thomas assumed it was time for his next dose. He whimpered around the gag and tried to inch backwards, though he didn't get far at all. Then light flooded the room and he was fairly sure the demon had never turned the lights on. What was happening?

"THOMAS!" Lena screamed his name and rushed forward, bruising her knees as she fell to the ground beside him. He smelled like stale urine and Lena wondered if he had pissed himself from fear, or simply out of necessity. How long had be been tied up like that, with his at his sides and his body practically mummified in ropes. "Oh, Jesus, Thomas." She reached down to pull the gag out of his mouth first and he looked up at her, his eyes barely focused.

"L- Lena? You have to run, Lena. Run."

Jamie could feel his heart crumble into tiny pieces. He hadn't been bound, in fact, he'd made the conscious choice to stay, in the hopes of preventing this very thing happening. But Beelzebub had take his dad anyway, tied him up and locked him away in the dark, doing god only knows what to him.

"Dad?" he whispered hesitantly. "Dad, it's me. It's me and Lena, we're gonna take you home. OK?"

"No, no-" Thomas shook his head as Lena started untying the ropes that bound Thomas up. "You have to run!"

"He's gone, my love," Lena said soothingly as she got his arms free. "He's not here and you're safe now, alri- Jesus," she hissed when she saw the marks on the inside of his arm. Injection sites. "Thomas, has he been drugging you?"

Thomas simply moaned and tried to lean his head in the direction of Jamie's voice.
