Jamie could feel his eyes widen in his face, and his hands twitched where they rested against Lena. He wanted to go and let his dad out, even though he knew that would be a spectacularly bad idea. He buried his head in her shoulder and tried his damnedest not to cry, because all that would do was make him feel worse.
