Who: Greed and Zoe [NPC Mike, Zoe's ex]
What: Greed crashes in and finds an unwelcome surprise
Where: Zoe's apartment
When: Thursday/Friday morning, January 31st/February 1st (and more like two logs squished into one!)
Status: Complete
Greed had picked up on the fact that she wasn't headed out at night. She also hadn't contacted him in some time, which in Greed's book was just rude. How was he supposed to keep her reeled in if she didn't actually come out to play?
Her hair was stringing down her face, her mouth already flapping off as he landed on her couch.
"Wicked is tonight," his eyes searched her over, "or did you forget?" He'd even dressed nice for the occasion. Nice clean jeans, shirt, vest and coat. He looked pretty dapper, even his hair was combed and slicked. Greed had this in the bag, he had since that dance in the park.
-------------------
Zoe made a confused face, "Tonight? I... you never said anything about going to see Wicked tonight. I have other plans." she held the towel to her and used her free hand to shove at his back on the sofa, "And you have to go, I don't have time to fight with you and get ready."
-------------------
As usual Greed had popped by on his own expecting her to tag along with him. "Plans already? For what?" He turned around, arm braced against the back of the couch.
"You promised. Are you saying no?" He actually felt a little rattled over that.
-------------------"Where are you going tonight that's better than Wicked and better than me?" He fished out the tickets and handed them to her, the gold bracelet from her last date's wrist now on Greed's.
Was she really going to say no?
-------------------
"Very serious." she watched the tickets flap through the air and land on the floor, "Go find some girl to go with you and you'll have a great time and you can come back tomorrow and pout and hate me then, okay?" she put a hand on his shoulder and leaned down to drop a kiss on his head before she scooted back into the bathroom.
-------------------
"This is bullshit." He grumbled snapping at her with his teeth when she walked off. He picked up the tickets and ripped them apart before they floated to the floor in pieces.
He flopped back onto the couch throwing his feet on the table. He wasn't leaving.
He flipped on the television.
-------------------
Soon after Zoe went to the bathroom, there was a knock on the front door. Whoever was on the other side, their face was obscured because they had a big bouquet of flowers in front of their face.
"Aw, are they for me?" If he shoved this guy down the stairs rolling with each bump would she notice?
-------------------
The flowers dipped to the side so Greed could see the blonde's face, the other guy gave a bewildered smile, "Sorry.. thought you were Zoey. You must be the roommate." he pointed at Greed with his free hand and then stuck it out for him to shake as he looked at the top of his head, "Huh, thought you'd be taller..."
-------------------
Greed could have easily thwarted the introduction but he decided to run with this. He wasn't as tall as Gabe, but he was still big. Big enough to dwarf this guy. "That's right. Gabe." He shook the man's hand, being sure there was a little crunch before letting go.
"Zoe's getting ready." He offered the couch, looking over this guy with a sharp eye. So, another suitor with the Jones to pull the good guy moves. He snorted. Pathetic. "First date? Or wait no she said you were shopping apartments. Just move to town?"
-------------------His teeth barred a little letting go before he broke the guy's fingers. He didn't believe a word he said. No one went apartment shopping at night, and no one said it like---"oh so you've met before?" Now this just got more interesting.
Serious? Sticking around? Red flags were going off and Greed wanted to ram his face right into that pretty bouquet of flowers and into the floor. He gave Mike a smile. "Just seems a little late doesn't it? Hunting down an apartment. It's the kind of night you use to go dancing or go to a Broadway show."
-------------------Greed was very unimpressed. He looked back to the unopened bathroom door which the light poured through under the crack by the floor. "Nope. Didn't day one word about you." For a moment he let it go, but no, no, Greed was a bit pissed off now. "So you didn't answer my question. Did you know each other before this?" He wiggled his finger around pointing to the flowers. Surely, he'd get somewhere.
Greed stood then headed towards the kitchen for a drink. He rummaged around the cabinets still eyeing down the competition. That's what this was wasn't it? This guy was intruding, but not quite like the others. Greed didn't offer him a drink, but it would play against this charade if he didn't. "Drink?"
-------------------
Mike nodded and gave a shrug of an upside down smile, "You could say that.. we dated for two years."
"Oh right, right. So just recently caught back up I take it?" Because that would explain Zoe not being within his reach when he wanted it.
-------------------This guy was a wolf in sheeps clothing. Greed could sniff that out right away. As a guy that wore every mask to get what he wanted, it was easy to see in others, its why he could just pretend, it was his first nature. Greed had once thought if he could pick apart what it was about love, friendship and feelings and emulate it with Zoe then he could get anything. It was like the last step to understanding the breakdown of humans by how they played on their emotions. In the process he had sort of found what was always so desirable about that side of things, its what made them human, and Zoe had given Greed that gift.
"She's tough to convince." Though Greed was very good at wearing her down without killing her. "That's quite a feat."
-------------------
Mike grinned, "Well two years with her, I know some of her soft spots." he winked at Greed. He quickly sobered up, saying with a serious face, "I'm hoping since we're older, wiser, we'll get it right this time." Zoe had mentioned Gabe was like her best friend, he didnt want the guy thinking he was trying to play the girl.
-------------------
If Mike could see beyond the glass in Greed's hand he would have seen red flare in the Sin's eyes as he downed the drink. That was not the thing for Greed to hear. Touching his things was contemplating theft. Bad. Just bad.
He hit the glass to the counter with a loud belch. He'd downed it way too fast and was pouring another. "Excuse me," he threw out not at all as friendly as it sounded.
He cleared his throat. "She should be out soon. You know how she is about plans and keeping her promises." He was sure to nail that in because it was why he was annoyed to begin with.
-------------------
Mike furrowed his brow, "Nice.." he said at Greed's belch. He was going to respond to plans and promises when the bathroom door opened and Zoe came out, surprised to find Michael there. She wasn't dressed fancy but she wore a nice skirt and top that showed off her arms.
-------------------
Greed downed his second drink, eyes falling on Zoe's appearance as she came out. She had chosen a more fancy route. Interesting.
"You dress up for apartment hunting?" He sad the glass down coming out from behind the kitchen counter. "You look nice." He threw that out because he'd dressed up just as nicely and she didn't even take notice.
-------------------
Zoe blanched a little at Greed's voice, "Thank you... Mike had said we might have dinner." but she was embarrassed at being called out for dressing up just a tiny bit. So she wore a nice top with a skirt instead of with jeans, what did he care?
-------------------
It didn't matter his name, Mike saw Greed as background noise. Greed threw back a grin with the raise of his empty glass. He kept it in hand and would probably walk out with it.
"Dinner. Nice. You should try Greek. Runs in the family." Greed would smear what he knew about Zoe in Mike's face because this creep didn't know her the same. He could see it written in his eyes, the way he carried himself. Greed could have fun toying with this one, but not yet. Not yet. There was more to uncover here.
-------------------
Zoe took the flowers from Mike, "Thank you.." she said with a smile. She looked at Greed and that smile faded. Mike chimed in with, "I hate Greek food. Kinda bland." Zoe put a hand on Mike's arm, "Why don't you sit down while I go put these in water?"
-------------------
He pointed a finger as if to prove he knew something Mike didn't. "Then you haven't had real Greek." His voice became a little louder until Zoe smuggled him into the kitchen.
He pouted reaching for the leftover alcohol. "They weren't good anymore." So he hadn't said it but he'd been ridiculously excited to go.
-------------------
Zoe put some water in a vase and the flowers in the vase. She frowned, "They were good until you tore them up.. you could have taken your sister at least." she quickly went over to him as he reached for the alcohol, "And I think you've had enough of that."
-------------------
He growled low under his breath as she pushed the bottle from him. He wanted that bottle, he deserved that drink. With a frustrated huff Greed eyed her vase of flowers.
"I wanted to go with you." He was upset though, not because she had to reschedule or just because he wanted to see the show. He was upset because----
"You never mentioned him." He whispered. He even pulled out the watery eyes. He didn't want her to go.
------------------
Zoe rubbed his arm, "We'll go together, just--" his next words silenced her. She felt guilty for not telling him and then didn't even know why she felt guilty. "I... I didn't know if there was anything to mention. Mike's part of my past. I didn't even tell Gabe about him or that he's back in town. I wanted to wait until I knew if there was anything to tell.." God, why was she trying to explain herself to him? He knew she was dating again.
"Don't go." Face or no face was she still going to turn him down? He'd made longer strides before and now she was the one being secretive. He didn't like it.
------------------------------------
It didn't make him feel any better and this was a side Lust usually saw where his reactions jumped all over the board. It was easier to clamp down on certain feelings since Kansas had thrown open Pandora's box for Greed. He could throw the lid back down but those feelings were still creeping around. Including one he didn't like in this given situation. Fear. Losing what he wanted to circumstances he couldn't control was one thing, losing it to one he could---
"Alright." He said with those puffy cheeks only children could contend with. "I'll be here first thing in the morning." He'd be there at 3 am if he didn't camp out here for the night. Given circumstances it was a tempting idea.
He could tell her he didn't like this guy but it would kill what he was building again with her. It would make him look devious and he didn't want to keep burning bridges. He had a fucked up way of getting things as he wanted, but this felt like he had to raise the bar.
------------------
Zoe smiled, "Alright."
