As Luna had hoped that afternoon, the dancefloor of Illunis was packed full of hot bodies tonight, everyone embracing the full force of Goth as they swayed together to a low industrial beat. Luna’s dress was black velvet, cleavage corseted and pushed up and pale legs revealing themselves from the long slits in her skirt.

It felt like there was something magic in the air tonight, like anything at all might be possible. Luna’s skin seemed to tingle with possibilities.

Which was why she almost wasn’t surprised when she saw Will Scarlet on the other side of the dance floor, his eyes on hers. She was sure that it wasn’t true, but it did feel like the crowd parted like the Red Sea between them. (There had been an ocean between the two of them for a long time now.)

And so, as he watched her, Luna found that she smiled. Over the music, beneath the flashing lights, Luna mouthed hi.

“Yes,” Luna said with a smile, trying to hide the sense of nervousness behind it. But it felt like a good kind of nervous, the butterflies in the stomach rather than the killer hornets. Not currently, not this time.

Maybe this could be it. Maybe this could be a fresh start where they both forgot all the cruel and thoughtless things they’d said and done.

Stop it, Luna told herself, wishing she hadn’t already had a few drinks by now. Don’t get ahead of yourself, don’t throw yourself directly into this particular bonfire.

But she was moving towards the bar with Will and it was a little frustrating that they wouldn’t really be able to talk much, but maybe that was also for the best.

She felt a little bad when she leaned in to Will and requested an espresso martini, knowing that she had far more disposable income than he did. But Will had offered, and she knew he didn’t like having her wealth ‘flaunted’ at him.

	Will glanced at Luna next to him at the bar, and gave her a little smirk. Funny, he’d forgotten she liked those. What else about her had he forgotten? “I wanted to dance,” Luna said with a smile, still feeling the music all around them in her muscles. It felt good to be out among all these people with so little connection to her daily life. It made her feel mysterious and alive.

“And you?” she asked, leaning her elbow on the bar as she shifted in towards Will. “A sudden desire to get into the goth lifestyle lead you here?”

Luna knew there was only one thing that would bring him here, just as only one thing had brought him here the last time. She’d remembered so often that night he’d appeared, both of them seeking something desperate, seeking a connection. And together they’d found it, if only for a moment.

Was that why Will had come tonight?

“Oh, yeah, me and goth are like this,” he said, holding up his crossed fingers. “I don’t strike you as gothic? I’m well gothic.” Maybe he’d wanted to check on her a bit. Since she posted a little while back and he chickened out of commenting, he’d thought on and off about Luna and where she was at now. He did a little bit want to know how she was holding up, and if she’d reconsidered her life choices, but he hadn’t. Not when Hermes was still hovering around. He didn’t want to invite that kind of attention anyway, he told himself.

Joking about with Luna had been one of his favourite things for so long though. He wanted to be able to have a laugh with her. That and get pissed in a goth club with some hot goth people.

“Well gothic,” Luna repeated, her eyes on his but slipping for just a moment (without thinking) to his lips. She liked his turns of phrase and she liked-

Fuck. She liked almost everything about Will, always had, even when they weren’t working.

And so she decided to be a little bolder, a little more open to the possibility of being shot down and hurt. There was nothing to be won if she kept herself locked up tight.

“You came here for me,” Luna said. and it wasn't a question. “You hoped that I’d be here again, like I was the last time.” The corner of her lip quirked up. “I’m glad that you did.”

Now Will leaned back, tilting his head as he eyed Luna. “Really?” he asked, “You still think about that?”

She remembered the last time. Not only remembered, but actively thought about. He hoped she could sense his interest in her too, but he took his drink so he didn’t look too eager to lead her back onto the dance floor. Couldn’t look too eager, but then, not looking eager at all was almost worse.

“I think about it most weeks,” Luna admitted. How could she not? How could she not think about how hungry and desperate they had both been, not just for some sort of release but also for each other after all the pain. How could Luna not think about that, when it was the last time that Will had been pressed against her, his lips upon her, his cock inside her.

She picked up her drink and took a sip, but didn’t for a moment take her eyes off him. She was greedy to not miss even a single micro-expression to her words. When Luna drew her drink away, she ran a tongue over her lip in what could have been a completely innocent martini-related action, but it wasn’t.

“Do you?”

Will couldn’t help but have his gaze drawn to her lips and her tongue, and he let out a slow breath. “It’s crossed my mind,” he admitted. “From time to time.” Was this what she wanted, to bring this up? They hadn’t spoken in so long that it was hard to know where she was at. Maybe it was better not to know. They might have a better go of it, if he didn’t. “Sometimes I wish we’d had a better last time. I wasn’t at my best.”

A better last time. It was a bittersweet sort of thought, wasn’t it? Luna didn’t know what sort of future the two of them had, but she couldn’t really see it. They’d moved so far from each other now. But she knew that they’d had something.

“We were both in a bad place,” Luna told him. “And maybe not thinking so straight.” She took a sip of her drink and when she put the glass down on the bar she looked up at him seriously, leaning in so she could lower her voice. “Do you want to come upstairs with me, Will?”

Luna watched his expression, watched him making a decision and hoping it was the same as hers. “I have a bedroom here,” Luna said. “A private space of my own.”

Will looked like he was going to keep chugging his drink down and Luna reached out and put a hand on his own to stop him. It was, as well, an excuse to touch him. “You can bring that with you.”

Then, warily, she curled her fingers back towards herself, feeling suddenly unsure of whether she was even still wanted like this. So much time had passed and Luna was making assumptions on his interest. There was the danger that she was just making a fool of herself.

Somehow, Luna having a private space in a goth club completely checked out. Her patrons had probably arranged it for her. Lucky for some. Will did slow down on his drink though, her touch warm on his skin.

"Lead the way," he said, feeling the skin on the back of his neck prickling with anticipation. If only it had always been this easy. It could have always been this easy…

Luna’s smile was open and genuine, lacking for a moment any attempts at playing it cool or being seductive. It was, completely, an expression of pure happiness that he had so readily agreed. She reined the smile in, not wanting to risk putting him off.

Gods, why was she like that? Why did she assume that her own genuine interest might put people off?

Maybe because it was so scary right now with Will, because they were so delicate as a unit.

But he said lead the way and so Luna - bold, even if it was a counterfeit boldness - took his hand in hers, feeling a sense of homecoming as their fingers slipped together the same way that they used to. Like it was easy, like they’d made such a fuss of everything even though they fitted together so well.

Slowly she led Will up the stairs and down a narrow corridor. The music was a little less bracing from here but still the steady beat carried through the floor, and Luna felt it in her chest like the beating of her own thunderous heart.

At her bedroom Luna looked at him - almost checking he really was still here, that he hadn’t slipped away - and unlocked the door, leading him in.

The room was all red and black velvets and satins, fully fitting in with what one might expect to find for ‘bedroom above a goth club’, and all the light came from candles set into beautiful candelabras- or, at least, very convincing fake LED candles. It was the perfect amount of light to see each other clearly but also make the whole room seem warm and inviting.

“Welcome to my domain,” Luna said, looking around the room to see it from someone new’s perspective. She ran a hand through her hair and looked back to Will, still trying to read him. She used to be able to read him so well, she’d thought.

Will’s heart was thumping as he followed Luna up the stairs. He kept seeing flashes of her legs as she moved and her velvet skirt swished with the sway of her hips. Like their entire relationship, this had a feeling of unpredictability and excitement, and shit, he’d never been good at resisting temptation. Impulse control wasn’t their thing.

The room though, shit, the room- “It looks like a sexy vampire lives here,” he said, setting his drink down on a side table as he glanced around at the extremely gothic decor. It certainly fitted with the whole aesthetic though, and it was exactly what he should have expected. Luna, in her corset and velvet, fit right in. “Is that what you’re here to tell me? You’re a vampire now?”

He was joking with her of course, because that was what he did to set himself at ease. How else was he supposed to deal with this crazy tension between them?

A momentary soft laugh before Luna said, “not quite living that dream.” She raised her eyes to his and said, in a low voice, “But I’ll still bite you if you want.”

Again Luna laughed, this time making a little more of a self conscious face about it. “Terrible,” she chided herself. She met his eyes and admitted: “I feel like if I don’t say the right things here then you’ll leave again.”

“Then, maybe we shouldn’t talk.” Will was acting with more bravado than he felt, and he stepped towards her, holding out a hand to take hers and draw her in close. He looked down at her, his eyes dark and desirous of her. Licking his lips quickly, he dragged his gaze up from her cleavage to her lips to her eyes. And then, with a quiet murmur, just to show both of them could have terrible lines, he said, “If I said you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me?”

What a cheese line. Luna loved it, loved everything about how cliche and terrible it was. She could have laughed, but instead she focused very hard on exactly what it meant. He still wanted her, he still thought of her.

“Until we’re both nothing but ash,” Luna said, leaning up to kiss Will. There was something less desperate that she had expected, the first time her lips met his after so long. The last time they had been here, together in this club, there had been no time for anything but their ravenous need to find completion in each other, to bury the awful things they were both living with.

But tonight, as Luna’s tongue found Will’s, she made a quiet whimper against his mouth, her hand coming up to cup his cheek.

It was like the first crack in a dam, that kiss. The wall he’d built to protect himself from her had a critical weakness, and it was triggered when the softness of her lips met his. He felt like he was tumbling headfirst into this and couldn’t pull himself out if he tried.

The kiss started out slow and cautious, but the longer it went on, the deeper it got, and he wrapped his arms around her to hold her in close while he began to lose himself in the sensation of her tongue against his. He’d never got enough of this before, and by god he wanted more of it now.

When Luna broke the kiss it was only so that she could catch her breath. He was bent down towards her, which made it easy to press her forehead to his, her eyes squeezed shut.

“Will,” she whispered, because even his name formed so well in her mouth. Her fingers moved through his hair and she lifted her face to look up at him again, feeling vulnerable and willing to do almost anything to prolong his touch. “I never stopped loving you,” she told him.
