WHO: Thomas, Jamie, Victor and Kat
WHAT: Apocalypse reunions
WHEN: A week after this and a few days after this
WHERE: Jamie and Thomas'
WARNINGS: Apocalypses

Thomas was seated in the living room, sucking the life out of one of their precious cigarettes. It had been a week since Jamie had been successful at finding much of anything when he went out to search for food. Thomas was hoping the cigarette would calm his hunger pangs, though so far it wasn't all that helpful. Their house smelled like smoke and coffee. If they couldn't eat anything, at least they could indulge in a bit of caffeine.

A loud sound interrupted the quiet and Thomas very nearly dropped the end of his cigarette. There was a vehicle outside. And it could be Victor and Kat's armoured RV, in which case they might actually get to fill their empty bellies. Or it could be someone else, someone from one of the many armies currently waging war across the world. They could steal the few remaining things Jamie and Thomas had to their name. They could take Jamie from him. They could kill the both of them.

"Jameson, come here-" Thomas said, stubbing his cigarette out against the wall and holding an arm out to his son. His voice was laced with fear. "Come over here!"

Jamie almost couldn't believe his ears. "Kat?" he said in surprise. "That's Kat," he said, hardly daring to believe it. He went to answer the door, knife sheathed, but his hand was still on the hilt.

He opened the door and saw Kat and Victor standing there. He just stared for a moment before saying, "Oh, thank fuck," and pulling Kat into a hug.

Thomas heaved a sigh of relief when he saw it was Kat and Victor. They were going to be okay.

Victor patted Jamie's shoulder as he clung to Kat, and then he walked past them to Thomas' side. "How are you doing, man?"

"Better now," Thomas said, looking up at his friend. "Been a shit few weeks. Come inside you two, it's freezing!"

She smiled at Jamie and returned the hug, biting back the faint hiss of pain. She kept it for a while, glad to see her friend alive, but wished he wasn't as skinny. "Hey you."

She smiled to Thomas as she pulled back from Jamie. Thomas seemed distracted so she caught Jamie's eye and pulled up her shirt a bit to show the bandage. "I'm fine," she offered with a lowered voice. "I'll tell you, just don't mention it to your dad." She lowered the shirt again before stepping inside to give Thomas a hug as well.

"I'm pretty much stoked to see you," he told her.

"Shit, how did that happen?" he hissed. "I won't, but come on, let's get inside, it's cold." He followed her inside. "So, how have you guys been?" he asked.

Thomas hugged Kat shakily and he smiled as wide as he could. "I am so happy to see you," he smiled at her. "You look well, you really do."

"I'll be right back," Victor explained, heading back out into the cold. "We've got quite a bit for you. We've had some good luck lately. If you want a hot shower later, Jamie, we can switch the generator on." Victor ducked out to grab the supplies they had brought.

Thomas watched his friend go, feeling incredibly relieved. Jamie and himself had been scraping the bottom, but now things would be okay for a while. "How long can you stay, Kat? A few days?"

She smiled at Thomas and released him. He was far too skinny himself. "Thank you Thomas. Always a compliment." She nodded at Victor before smiling at Jamie. "We've been alright. Day at a time you know. You?"

She looked at Thomas and smiled, "Yeah. Maybe a week or two unless shit really hits the fan. I'm sorry we haven't been by in a while. We had more people come in and trying to adjust and all that."

"We've been better, but we've also been worse," Jamie said. "Managed to avoid anything really bad happening so far."

The pleased noise that came out of his throat didn't really have words. "Yes, please," he said, a grin forming on his face. "I would love one."

"Yaaaay, you'll be here a while!" Jamie cheered, giving a tired-looking fistpump.

Victor carried several boxes back and forth between the RV and the house, stacking them just inside the door. Thomas found himself feeling a little overwhelmed with the amount of things there were.

"Best thing I've heard in a long time," Thomas said to Kat with a smile. He loved being in the presence of Victor and Kat, and he knew Jamie did too. Jamie was always less on edge with Kat around. "Is...is that all food?" he asked, his voice just a little weak.

"Most of it," Victor said before ducking out to fetch yet another box.

"We felt really bad we hadn't been by in ages. We've got some vegetables too. Gardens' coming along nice." Jamie looked tired and she couldn't imagine how hard it had to be.

She set her hand on Thomas shoulder. "I'll give Jamie a hand with putting it away." It would give her time to talk to her friend without worrying Thomas.

With a smile she walked to the boxes, picking one up and waiting for Jamie. It wasn't until they were out of earshot she gave him a long look. "How's things? Honestly? You know we can look after you guys, right?"

"It's OK," Jamie told her. "You've got more people to look after than just us."

He pulled a few boxes into his arms and followed Kat into the kitchen. "It's...it's been rough," he said honestly. "I've been out a couple times looking for food and fuel and things, and every time I leave, I worry someone will break in looking for something, not find anything, and they'll hurt Dad. Or kill him." His face blanched at the thought. "But if I don't go, we'll both freeze or starve." He rubbed a hand over his face.

While Kat and Jamie were in the kitchen, Victor finished with the boxes and he came to sit beside Thomas. "We can get you cleaned up too if you want." He knew it would be too hard for Thomas to stand in the shower by himself. "Or get a chair in there or something. I got some meds for you too. How have you been feeling lately?"

"Lot of pain," Thomas admitted. "Hungry. Jamie's been such a hero."

Victor glanced off towards the kitchen. "I would imagine so," he said softly. He had a lot of respect for Jamie for taking care of his father through all of this.

She sighed and drew Jamie into a hug. She really wished she could do more. "There's room for both of you. There really is." She kept the hug for a while before drawing back. "But you won't need to for a while, and if you want something more then the knife let me know." Guns were finicky and hard to come by, but useful as she'd learned.

She started to set some things away and glanced back. "And the bandage is because someone figured I was tied to Hermes. And they didn't like that. I'm hoping he won't find out. He'll yell at Victor and just make things worse."

He rested his chin on her shoulder, hugging her back. "I know, I just don't know how well he'd do, being on the move all the time." He nodded. "I will, thanks. So far, this seems to be doing fine for me, but sometimes I wonder if having a gun wouldn't be useful."

"Aw, shit," he said. He hadn't found out about gods and immortals very long ago, but he knew that they could really throw their weight around if they wanted to. "Because yelling at Victor would really fix everything," he added sarcastically.

Victor went to put some of the wood he had brought on the fire, since it would burn for a while and keep them all warm. "We should get you both fed first," Victor said to Thomas and then he headed into the kitchen. "You want some lunch, Jamie? We have some meat and veggies." He had a feeling it had been a while since they had had either of those things.

"Trust me, sometimes it is. Just be careful with it." She sighed, "And if you ever change your mind about it, just let me know. There is always room." She sighed. "Well, he thinks Vic can't keep me safe. And wants me in a safe location. But I can't do that."

She smiled to Victor then, "lunch sounds do able."

"I'll talk to Dad, see what he thinks," Jamie said. "Lord knows I wouldn't mind being out of here, but I have to think about what's best for him, too."

"Victor seems to be doing a pretty good job so far," Jamie said. "I mean, it's the friggin' Apocalypse. No one's totally safe, shit is gonna happen, that just seems to be how it goes."

"That sounds great," he said to Victor. "I can't really remember what a real vegetable looks like."

Victor smiled at Jamie and then he went to fetch a few things so he could cook them up. "If you want to shower in the mean time, I can go flick the generator on before I put up some carrots and potatoes."

Thomas sat on the sofa, studying how Victor took charge of the situation. He looked much healthier than himself or Jamie did, though he also looked harder than he used to. He supposed that was what happened when a chosen pacifist was forced to fight for his life and the life of others.

She sighed, "well my grandfather's idea of protection tends to mean he'd put me in a tower or something. Which isn't what I want." She nodded. "And I understand that. Here go for a shower I'll go sit with your dad."

She set one hand on Jamie's shoulder before walking to where Thomas was and sitting down. "Fire was sounding like a good idea."

Victor led Jamie out to the RV, flicking the generator as he went. "We have some warmer clothes for you both as well," he explained. He pulled some out as soon as they entered and he handed them over. "Right through there like always. Lock up when you're done," Victor tossed him the keys. "I'll be cooking. And hey...it's really good to see you," Victor smiled at Jamie before heading back in.

Thomas turned to Kat, his movements slightly awkward. "Glad you're here. Jamie's always so much happier when you're here." He was too, he had to admit. "He can act young again. So how are you, freedom fighter?"

Once she'd have been more honest. She'd say she was worried she and Victor seemed distant. But now it seemed selfish to complain about things like that.

So she managed a smile. "I'm glad it helps and trying to do the right thing as ever. Doing what I can. How are you?"

"Thanks, Victor," Jamie said gratefully. "It's really good to see you, too."

He headed into the shower, relishing the feeling of warm water, while trying not to take forever at the same time. He scrubbed himself clean and washed the grime from his hair, watching as the swirling water eventually ran clear.

He dried off and pulled on the clothes Victor had laid out for him, then exited the RV and locked it behind him. Heading back into the house, he laid the keys on the kitchen counter where Victor could find them easily. "That was awesome," he said. "Thank you, I really needed that."

"Getting on," Thomas said quietly. "Confusion sets in sometimes, but I'm still here." He watched as Victor re-entered and started preparing lunch. "Is he alright?" Thomas asked quietly. "He...looks-" Thomas tried to mine 'serious' since he couldn't think of the right word.

When Jamie re-entered, Thomas smiled at his son. It was the first time in a while the expression came easily.

"Just in time," Victor said, as he spooned some potatoes, carrots and chicken onto a plate for Jamie and another for Kat. It wasn't seasoned with anything and it might be boring, but it was real food which didn't come from a can. The poor boy looked like he could use it. "I'll help Thomas. You just dig in."

She set her hand over Thomas'. She worried what would happen when he got sicker, or when his body just caved. She worried Jamie might do something reckless because of it. "I'm glad. I wish there was more I could do." She glanced to Victor before nodding to Thomas. "He's just worried about everything. And everyone."

She took the plate but didn't intend to eat much of it. Around other people she never really finished her meals. She'd much rather have other people have it.

Jamie tried to protest, but he could tell that was a losing battle. So he took his plate into the living room, taking the chair next to his father. He smiled as he came into the room. "Dang, I feel better," he said. He took a bite of the chicken, and it may not have been the most exciting thing he'd ever eaten, but it was delicious. He told himself not to scarf it all down at once, he'd probably make himself sick. "This is delicious, Victor," he said.

"There's more if you need it!" Victor called after Jame. When he finally re-entered the living room, he was carrying a bowl of mashed potatoes and chicken cut up so small it was barely recognisable. "Here, Thomas. Do you need me to hold the spoon?"

Thomas nodded, not even bothering to feel embarrassed. "My hands haven't been so good lately," he admitted.

"That's alright, I'll help."

"No airplane or into the hatch babyfood jokes," Thomas said dryly and Victor actually chuckled.

Victor did take a moment to plant a quick kiss on Kat's hair, but he didn't want poor Thomas to have to wait any longer to eat. Then he pulled a chair over and sat in front of his friend. As he spooned some of the food into Thomas' mouth, he tried to make conversation. "Michael led us to a supply factory which still had a bunch of supplies so we stocked up. We got really lucky."

When Victor was busy with Thomas she handed Jamie her plate and gave him a look not to complain or say much. She wasn't terribly hungry anyway. She'd much rather wait and give the food to people who needed it.

"Sometimes Angels are handy." She knew her grandfather would help as well. It was just the wondering how he'd manage it all that ended up causing her not to ask. At least Michael was honest.

Jamie raised his eyebrows as he took her plate. True, he probably could have eaten his share and hers, but he didn't want to take it away from her. But to appease her, he took a bite of the chicken.

"Sounds like it," Jamie agreed. "Sometimes getting lucky while you're out looking is the best thing to happen all week."

"There's seventeen of us now," Victor continued. "Michael is helping us find homes for some of them soon. "Angels are pretty handy." He fed Thomas more of the potatoes and chicken and Thomas promptly coughed it all back out all over Victor's face and shirt.

Thomas bent over, coughing and hacking, trying to catch his breath while Victor immediately put down the bowl to help him.

"Not your fault!" Thomas managed to grit out. And it hadn't been. It was simply his body rebelling against one of the things he needed most. "I'm sorry."

"Thomas, it's okay. We'll try again in a moment," he said before giving a worried look to Jamie and Kat.

She waved to Jamie to take the plate before frowning at Thomas' coughing fit. She wasn't terribly sure what to do so she set her hand on Jamie's to offer him silent support before rising and getting some water.

With a smile she handed the cup to Victor. "Here Thomas. There's some water, do you think you'll be alright?"
