Monday, February 16th
Who: Grace Spencer, Jeff Novak
What: Getting married
When: February 16th, 10 am
Where: Seattle Pairing Office
Rating: NC-17
Status: Incomplete
The Seattle Pairing Office was a large, modern steel and glass building that looked, Grace thought, very self-important. If a building could think, then Grace supposed it was entitled to view itself as such; the people within had the authority to change the lives of everyone else around them and did, seemingly without compunction.
And wow, was she nervous, if such weird thoughts circled in her head. She pulled into the first available parking space and shut off the car. The engine began to tick as it cooled. Outside, the sun had decided to shine that day, but it was still chilly, and Grace shivered in spite of the warmth of the car. The cold she felt had nothing to do with temperature.
She glanced over to Jeff, sitting in the passenger seat. They'd driven over together; as they lived in the same building, there hadn't been any reason for her not to drive them both. He wore a nice black suit under his coat and had made an effort to tame his curly hair, which was apparently a battle he'd always lose. Grace couldn't resist the urge to reach out and brush one looping lock from his forehead; it curled around her fingers, warm and silky. For a moment she wanted to put her hands in his hair, to warm her cool fingers in his thick hair, against his scalp, but instead let her hand fall away.
She wondered if she were as pale as he looked. If so, she was ghostly. A glance in the mirror showed big eyes and red mouth; the rest of her seemed to fade into the brightness of her hair.
"And so we're here, Mr. Novak," she said, and tried on a smile. "Are we ready?"
