Who? Montrose + (players and any interested affiliates)
What? Operation "For Merlin's sake, find our Seeker a bloody broom STAT"
When? Sunday, March 25th 2000
Where? Starts and ends at Lennox's place on Mull, via the practice pitch.
Rating? Probably some swears, knowing this lot. Rating otherwise TBD.

Lennox had, of course, suffered the ultimate non-injury disaster in the match the day before: the utter destruction of a much loved, well cared for broomstick that had served him well since his very first days at Montrose. People just didn't understand why he'd kept onto the old thing, and he was well used to the mocking of it (and that was just Angus). The loss of the snitch still grated on him, but there was no way he could avoid this - not only were they so close to the Neep, but there were the many practice sessions in between. A borrowed broom would only do for long - he NEEDED to be used to even a short term loaner before these important matches. Even if he eventually ordered a custom, it would take some time to get it approved, and he would have to know where to go for such a thing anyway.

And thus, bright and early on the Sunday, he sat in his living room awaiting the Montrose gang who had chosen to come with. Mug of tea in hand, Toby at his feet, the broken pieces of the faithful old Comet were on the table, high enough to be out of the dog's way. The plan was thus: meet here, head out to the practice pitch where several broom companies had been only to eager to send one of their latest models, and test one enough to decide it would do, for the next few weeks at least. Hopefully, the best of the bunch would be one worth keeping, but he was never going to take that for granted.

As the doorbell rang, he got up to see who it was, Toby trotting obediently after him.

First up is the classic Quidditcher brand with their 2002 model, the first update since the well-respected 2001 broom. They've sent a new, rather nervous looking rep with this one, who can't quite seem to believe he's actually here.

Lennox takes the broom from the younger man, noting that it appears the company are playing a risky game here. Perhaps they thought an inexperienced rep would appear unsympathetic? In any case, Lennox frowns a little as the rep stumbles over his questions, and as he leans down to open the broom's case, Lennox turns to quirk his eyebrows at anyone who may be watching. Curiouser and curiouser.

When he gets on the broom, he's surprised to find that the reputation of Nimbuses past is not matched here. He's never flown one before, and he finds it doesn't match what he's looking for. Even the Comet, his old broom, could get a fair amount of speed coaxed out of it with a decent build up, but this one, as he circles around the pitch, gaining altitude, feels almost like it's coasting. Probably better suited for a broom where quick reaction times but consistent speed is necessary?

Either way, after a lap or two of the pitch and no more, it's clear that when he lands so quickly that this one is an outright no.

Chuck was close by enough that she overhead the rep a little, and winced at how nervous the poor guy was and how he stumbled over the questions. She'd make a comment to Lennox afterwards that Nimbus might've done better to have sent a more experienced rep, especially considering they had to have known what it could mean for the brand and all.

"It's almost insulting, given that there's more than one player here in the market for a new broom in the long term," he whispers in her ear, giving her a quick kiss on the cheek before moving on to the next rep.
