Lennox Campbell is a man of the people ([info]colludium) wrote in [info]neeps,

Who? Montrose + (players and any interested affiliates)
What? Operation "For Merlin's sake, find our Seeker a bloody broom STAT"
When? Sunday, March 25th 2000
Where? Starts and ends at Lennox's place on Mull, via the practice pitch.
Rating? Probably some swears, knowing this lot. Rating otherwise TBD.

Lennox had, of course, suffered the ultimate non-injury disaster in the match the day before: the utter destruction of a much loved, well cared for broomstick that had served him well since his very first days at Montrose. People just didn't understand why he'd kept onto the old thing, and he was well used to the mocking of it (and that was just Angus). The loss of the snitch still grated on him, but there was no way he could avoid this - not only were they so close to the Neep, but there were the many practice sessions in between. A borrowed broom would only do for long - he NEEDED to be used to even a short term loaner before these important matches. Even if he eventually ordered a custom, it would take some time to get it approved, and he would have to know where to go for such a thing anyway.

And thus, bright and early on the Sunday, he sat in his living room awaiting the Montrose gang who had chosen to come with. Mug of tea in hand, Toby at his feet, the broken pieces of the faithful old Comet were on the table, high enough to be out of the dog's way. The plan was thus: meet here, head out to the practice pitch where several broom companies had been only to eager to send one of their latest models, and test one enough to decide it would do, for the next few weeks at least. Hopefully, the best of the bunch would be one worth keeping, but he was never going to take that for granted.

As the doorbell rang, he got up to see who it was, Toby trotting obediently after him.

Is the send off for the broom a pyre?

Kenna kinda hopes it's a pyre...

How very dare you with that suggestion, Kenna! You don't do that to a broom with fourteen years of BIL experience and three world cups under its belt... the poor broom :(

I would say it's reasonable if she's support and not there as a reporter?

Gregor is there to help. He comes over from the Wee Cottage

He's got a notebook to take notes in, a kneazel in his hoodie, and the keys to the Montrose equipment room. He'll even set up a steeplechase or pole bending course, as well as time things.

He's also got a little local weather making kit, but he'd recommend trying all the brooms dry then all the brooms in the rain...

Excellent, Gregor is here! Lennox trusts the man, and certainly his expertise when it comes to the game and an outside perspective. He smiles when he recognises the person at his door, and stands aside to let him in. "Gregor! Good to see you. Can I get you some tea?"

Lennox will definitely be grateful for his presence when Gregor suggests the differing conditions, because it's a bloody good idea to see how they handle in different weathers.

Kenna came because this was Important Business and she takes such things Very Seriously. And just because it's Kenna, she brings some breakfast egg muffins with her that are charmed to maintain the perfect temperature.

Lennox is, admittedly, a little surprised that she showed up, but he supposes that one day she might have to do the same thing - pick a broom at short notice, and know what to look for without the pressure affecting decision making.

He invites her in, offers tea, and warns her to keep the tray up high so that Toby doesn't sulk at her.

Kal shows up because she's also in the market for a broom. She isn't allowed to fly yet (and will not be breaking that rule), but she's still interested to see how everything tests out.

Lennox greets her at the door and offers tea. It won't do any harm to confer on what sorts of things they're looking for in brooms, will it?

Jason has such insider knowledge and it is eating him that he can't say anything just yet. While he does have his business interests in mind, he also wants his friend and teammate to find a broom that works. (Jason's bias means he thinks that broom is an A&K broom -- but a true custom would take more time than they had and their new line has only just started early stage testing for approval.)

He likes a good show and Jason is interested in seeing the competition be put through the paces today. A&K might not have something for mass public consumption just yet, but he and Jamie discussed how to approach this situation briefly. So Jason is definitely making sure that Jamie gets to come along to the practice pitch to watch.

Then later. There might even be a surprise if they manage it.

The fact that there is no public knowledge means that it hasn't even occurred to Lennox to consider an A&K custom yet - his head is in the present, given the urgency of the circumstances, though he is very keen for his friend's enterprise to succeed.

He greets Jason, offering him tea as he arrives.

Ro arrives with Waffle in tow (hope that it's okay to bring him along to play withToby?) and carrying his lesser used broom, the Rafale XVII or Ouragan (Hurricane). He's actually pretty excited to see all the brooms and really hopes they can find one that will suit Lennox.

"I brought this one along just in case you wanted to try it and you're more than welcome to borrow it if you do like it."

Chuck arrived early. She wanted to be there to support Lennox, especially knowing how he had favoured his old Comet. She'd have greeted him with a kiss to the cheek, and given his hand a reassuring squeeze.

If the subject had come up at the office and they'd asked if she'd perhaps cover it for Seeker Weekly, she'd have insisted they find someone else to do it, and would've reminded them that she was the match reporter and that just because she had a personal angle in the matter didn't mean she'd be giving them any stories whenever they wished it.

Of course, there are others who may be in the market for a new broom. Feel free to join in the testing session if you like, folks!

Several broom manufacturers are here with an example of their latest model (sub threads can be added under here), and are available for questions from anyone around. Up to date stats are available, and even though it's Lennox's unfortunate incident that has them here with their offerings, they're not going to turn down anyone who might be interested in an appointment of their own...

Nimbus

First up is the classic Quidditcher brand with their 2002 model, the first update since the well-respected 2001 broom. They've sent a new, rather nervous looking rep with this one, who can't quite seem to believe he's actually here.

The company that has kitted out half the league in the last decade - or at least, amongst those teams who can afford the notoriously pricey broom - have sent one of their top brass with the Firebolt 2.0, the first update to the relatively new brand.

Comet

Next up is the maker of Lennox's beloved old broom, with their newest 590 model. Their rep seems to be a little put out that they weren't up first, given circumstances, and looks at the Nimbus and Firebolt reps with particular sniffiness about her.

Moontrimmer
[info]colludium
2018-03-25 08:18 pm UTC (link)
The biggest of the American broomstick manufacturers is clearly chancing their arm here, but their rep appears to be quietly confident, happy to accept their place in the line. He sits back quietly, knowing that from what he's heard about the quiet Seeker, pushiness will put him right off anyway (and he'd be correct).

Jamie is here thanks to Jason. He is also bursting (and frustrated) that he can't openly disclose what's coming but he is hoping to work something out. He's brought their custom broom testing kit, the model they use to let their custom clients test the brand.

At least that's what he has openly. Anything else he has with him is secret and private.
