[Justin]

So, I've already talked to Monte. How are you doing?

[Lex]

Hello - have you heard about this Magpies-Pink thing? Georgi was talking to me about it.

Do we need to have a talk about it?

I'm not sure it matters what I think. It's not about what I think. It's about what those who fought in the war and were affected by it think.

Your language is very avoidant and I can guess at why. But I've asked twice; if you don't want to talk about it, I'll leave it alone.

I honestly don't know what's left to say, Ernie..

Nothing's going to make up for the guilt I feel, nothing's going to make up for what I didn't do.

I guess I hoped you would say you were supportive of it. And I suppose I wanted to find out that if you weren't, why not. And then, I imagined, I would try to talk you into being supportive of it.

I still don't think quidditch is the place for this, but it doesn't matter. Flint's made sure this is where this is happening.

I don't think who your parents are makes you any better or worse of a person or a better or worse quidditch player or witch or wizard. You can't pick your parents. I think muggleborns have been treated unfairly and unjustly and if anything, quidditch has proved to me that parentage shouldn't matter.

Why isn't Quidditch the place for this?

Because quidditch should be a safe space away from the world's problems

I feel quidditch should be about the game, not politics. And this.. well... it feels like it's a new dividing measure of teams and players.

You think it's political to support Muggleborns? I think politically the subject is pretty well settled, don't you? It's socially we're still at odds and ends.

Is there a difference between shame and guilt?

I don't like being forced to do things.

I don't know. But I think that if you believe it to be truly pointless and against your beliefs about Quidditch and its place in society, you shouldn't do it.

I don't think it's pointless.

It's also about team loyalty.

You shouldn't do it out of shame, is what I'm saying. If you believe something, you should stand up for it, Lex.

Because it'll damage your career not to. Not because you actually want to support your Muggleborn teammates in the fashion of their choosing.

....

Because Jason is my teammate. And I promised to protect him on the pitch. But that's not enough. I have to stand by him now even if I didn't before. And all my bullshit reasons of why I don't think this is the best way don't matter because it's not about me. It doesn't mean I don't feel those things, or recognize them as bullshit reasons, but they're not as important as standing by my friend and teammate.

I know it's loyalty to my family that's make me hesitate, but Montrose is my family too. And Montrose has stood by me when I've done things. And I need to stand by Montrose and Jason. Even if my father my aunt -- even if there are consequences.

I was a coward before.

And I'm scared and uncomfortable and worried about doing this, but I need to do it.

I also need a big bottle of whiskey and to figure out how to get back to playing like myself in quidditch, but well, all in due time.

Father would-

Nah, you don't need whiskey. Whiskey is for bad times. Chocolate is for good times.
