IC/OOC - Who's Ready to Meet Montrose's New PR Guy?

internalmemo
Montrose Magpies Team PR Office
2 March 2000

TO: Montrose Staff and Players

FROM: Montrose Magpies Team Office

SUBJECT: Getting to Know You!
Hello, Magpies!

No doubt, you have seen a new face around the offices, so I thought I'd send out a memo to briefly introduce myself. My name is Alex Winters, and I'll be taking over the Public Relations position from Aureliana effective immediately. She's agreed to stay on for a brief time as we transition her work to me, and I'm very excited to get started here! I'm sure all of you have appreciated the hard work she put in during the interim.

A little about me: I was born in Scotland, but moved to America when I was really little, and grew up in Seattle, WA. I went to Ilvermorny- Go, Horned Serpents!- and then interned for a marketing firm in Manhattan before being hired on full time. This was my primary background- international corporate accounts- for nearly ten years, when I felt it was time for a change.

But I'm not here to bore you with the details! I'd really like to get to know everyone here, but I know that everyone is busy with three upcoming matches this month, so I'm asking if you could please find the time to either schedule a time or just stop by my office for a brief 5-10 minute chat so I can get to know the team a little better.

If you find you don't have time, or small talk just really isn't your thing, I've attached a brief form that includes some talking points you can also use if you wish. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you, and can't wait to see the Unbeatable Magpies in action again!

It’s totally okay if your character would much rather do this in writing!

King, Jason
[info]feelingyou
2018-03-03 02:58 am UTC (link)
Who? My name is Jason King. I am one of the starting chasers and vice captain. I have far too many nicknames to keep track of, although none particularly official or branded. However, you may have learned I wear a few different hats. I am co-owner of Abercrombie & King Custom Broom Designs, as well as founding member of Uplift. I also have a companion animal, Mandela, who is a well-behaved Jack Russell Terrier who helps me deal with my post-traumatic stress disorder and depression (both which are in remission) from my time in Azkaban.

What? I am a good rallying the team. My strength is in leading the offensive/chaser set, but struggle if I need to step into a fully captaincy role. I'm known for my fast breaks and interceptions. I could easily best any on the team in a flat out broom race. I tend to play a clean game, and am not one to foul. I think to some extent, I bring division to the team for my blood status and now for my political activism. This is especially because the owners and some of the players are related to Corban Yaxley, who was the head of the DMLE during the war and heavily involved in the acts of the Muggle-Born Registration Commission.

When? I joined Montrose in 1991 as a reservist and made my way up to full time starter by 1993. I have played every season except for 1997 when muggleborns were persecuted by the Ministry of Magic. I have loved flying since I learned that was a thing I could do at the age of 11, quidditch is a natural extension of this.

Where? Montrose was my first and only team. I came from the International Broom Racing circuit and still compete there, although to a lesser extent now. It is my first love, although quid isn't too bad. I have been asked to fly for English National a few times, but honestly don't have the interest as it would impact my ability to race.

Why? For me, the sport of quid and the art of flying is about finding perfection. It's those moments were everything falls into place. The beauty the physics you know the wonder of mathematics. Action and reaction. I want to have the perfect throw, build the perfect broom, fly the perfect line.

How? I have had extensive press training and engage the press frequently, sometimes on behalf of Montrose, but also sometimes for myself. In the past I have run my talking points by PR for approval when on behalf of Montrose and am very aware to make it clear who I am speaking for when I do speak. I would much appreciate a face-to-face to discuss details regarding ongoing activities, which I imagine you are aware of.

Jason, thanks for the thoughtful answers. I'm looking forward to meeting with you whenever is most convenient for you. I have a feature in my journal that shows my calendar, which is always up to date, if you'd like to find a day/time.

As you can imagine we all have pretty tight schedules at the moment - myself more so that others due to my varied interests and projects. However, the one that remains true is the need to eat (also for myself more so than others right now.)

I can also appreciate that I may have sent management into a spin with my most recent request. I can make myself available before, during, or after any decisions are made. Please let me know what you would prefer to best support your job.

If you're free after practice this evening and it's convenient, we could grab dinner somewhere close. I really would like to sit down and make sure I have a good understanding of Uplift and it's goals and how you see it fitting in with your position on the team.

That works for me, I will stop by your office when we're finished for the day. There is a good place to eat not far from here.

Who? Kalyani "Kal" Sharma, Reserve Beater
What? do I really have to I work hard. I'm adaptable. I've not particularly good at talking to the press, but mostly I just avoid it when I can.
When? This is my first year with the team, but I've been a fan pretty much since I've known it existed. This is the only thing I've ever wanted to do.
Where? I played with the Catapults before the war for a year, but Montrose feels more like home.
Why? Being the best at what I do that I can possibly be.
How? There's not really anything I mind discussing, I guess? I'm just not all that comfortable talking to strangers in general, so. Also don't think I need anything in particular.

Maddock, Alasdair
[info]maddocked
2018-03-03 05:23 am UTC (link)
Who? Alasdair Maddock. Most people call me Maddock, but I also have answer to... many names. Doc, Mad Dog, Mad Duck (Only Gregor), Allie, Mads, Maddy... basically you'll find your own name for me naturally. Maddock is also fine. I'm a starting Chaser.
What? Strengths: I'm an endurance Chaser, which means I'm good at lasting through longer matches. My stamina makes up for speed usually, though I'm not that slow. I'm not a broom racer like Jason though. I can be a bit of a trick flier though... if allowed, I incorporate trick shots inspired by Muggle Sports. Though that has gotten me in trouble in the past.
When? I joined Montrose in 1990. But I do have... a gap starting in 1995. I was fired by the former coach for 'being obsessed' with muggle sports. This is my first season back. Which I will say that Quidditch is my first sports obviously. I'd played in Hogwarts, and I knew I wanted to do something... different than just working in the Ministry like my Grandfather expected.
Where? No, I actually started as a reserve for the Cannons right out of Hogwarts. The idea was, I'd stand out among the bad team right? And it worked, I got traded as a reserve for Kestrals pretty quickly and made it to starting. Montrose was my favourite team though, and it was a goal to get on this team.
Why? Well... I'm the oldest player on the team now, and I don't want people to think I wasted my career on a stupid mistake in the past that got me fired. I'm back and want to prove that I am a good chaser, and I want to get my shot average up, and proof that I can rake up the points. I got injured last match though so... I'm going to have to work on that goal harder without injuring myself again.
How? I'm not sure? I'm not really too worried about the press, and this hasn't really come up, but I've been getting a bit more... anxious since I've been reminded more lately about how I got fired. And if I can't play because I'm injured, or I'm not scoring the goals in matches, I don't really want people to think that I shouldn't have come back.
