As soon as she'd come in, Ainsley situated herself near Amir, and definitely between him and Meaghan, although it may not have been clear that this as intentional (it was). She was in a great mood, however, because a super early meeting with the healers at St Mungo's had cleared her for practice- she just had to get the same clearance from Maggie and then she was going to go straight to Ellie and Bart and tell them the good news!

This mood, of course, was immediately dashed by Cav's announcement. The shock was apparent, but it was tempered with a sudden doubt when she recollected Meaghan's reactions to Amir's remarks. Ainsley dismissed the idea as unimportant in the grand scheme of things. At Ellie and Chidera's suggestion, she offered, "I can make a few things, if everyone would like."

If Ellie looks tired today, it's not actually anything new. She is tried. She has been tired for the past month. However, at the meeting she is standing sure. Solid. For as much as she might be upset about Joy leaving, about the shit storm descended down upon them, she can't let that show today.

Today she needs to keep the team together and convince them we are here. We will fight. We will win. (She probably had a few moving words to this effect.)

And if none of that works, she has a few different options for training today -- including appropriate uses of anger. AKA who wants to practice hitting bludgers?

(She will also be available for any one-on-ones as necessary.)

Maggie is in a very good mood this morning. She catches Amir's eye, smiles, and draws her finger along her neck in a strictly non-threatening manner. She promises it's all in good fun. (This is unrelated to her very good mood.)

As for the news, she's not bothered. She made peace with Joy leaving the day she announced she'd gone home for a family emergency — the medic-to-be had left New York under similar circumstances and it had taken her less than a week to drop the apprenticeship and owl back for her belongings, so she's had plenty of time to work through it.

She's more concerned with watching the players (and a staff member or two) to determine who's most likely to punch walls and/or faces, if she can help prevent it, and if she'll need to patch anyone up. Please don't make her. Let her have her mostly-very-good-day.

So this probably explains a lot about Owen's mood this weekend. It is disappointing news. So much for not worrying about the Chasers. Lorna immediately looks between Meaghan, Alasdair and Scrimmy who she is the most concerned about in seeing how they are react. Ellie obviously already knew, and she seems calm for the moment. Lorna doesn't look happy, and she's disappointed that they are down a starting player again.

Because his position as the remaining foreign player on the team is magnified and now he's pretty sure everyone is waiting for him to throw in the towel and disappear across the Atlantic. Scrimmy just stays quiet and stares in obvious shock. She looks to Alasdair then to her feet as Cav's speech ends and Coach takes over. Slowly the surprise of it wears away but she stays quietly staring at her feet and not registering what's happening in the rest of the meeting.

Partway through Coach's talk (after the motivational bit) she slips away and leaves while people are focused elsewhere.

Maybe he's taking a page out of Gwen's book, but Owen is early for the meeting and greets everyone as normal. His face remains neutral as Cav makes his announcement, and he carefully catalogs the various reactions around the room, most notably the Chasers and Meaghan. He will, of course, be around for any questions after the meeting, but once any of those have passed, he'll make his way to his office where he can pretend that it doesn't feel like his team is imploding.

And also where there is tea.

Meaghan does not: scream, cry or even look surprised.

She does look awfully stonefaced. This is not something she can pretend to be cheerful about. She sits still, only not fidgeting because she has had all weekend to prepare for this, and she has the look of someone who's just waiting for it to be over.

She is really grateful for when the meeting ends and they can start training.

Though they may have previously thought she was coming back, Alasdair and Scrimmy have nonetheless stuck together more closely in Joy’s absence - partially because of their working relationship, and partially, in Alasdair’s POV, because if the remaining starting Chaser line are still there, then at least that’s SOME form of stability in the craziness that is currently Portree.

He senses something isn’t right from the moment they’re all called in, and will instinctively look towards those he trusts most outside of the Chasers - Lorna, Owen and Maddie for example - and when Cav finally makes the announcement, his eyes are on his Captain. They’re widened, in clear shock and much, MUCH more vulnerable looking than his usual stoic and sensible state. It probably surprises those who notice.

His fists are clenching open and closed with the tension, a subconscious gesture but he looks like he’s finding the processing of what’s just been said to be very hard. Though it’s not loud, the words fuck. For FUCK’S sake can be heard from his direction, his self control not as it usually is, the words directed at himself more than anything.

How on earth are they going to handle this?
