An owl arrives at the Urquharts' castle Thursday morning with a package for David Urquhart. Before it leaves, it drops off a little something for Peggy and Alec, too.

The package for David is wrapped in a mediocre plain brown paper job, and has a note on top. Inside is a low-end Starbrite Starter Safety Broom intended to be a toddler's first ride above the ground. Tucked amongst the bristles, about 6" long and 1" in diameter, is a small metal something. When tapped with a wand, it unfolds (by itself!) into a music stand that emits a little light from the bottom of the surface up.

Wee Davey,

Anyone who refused to recognize your worth on the pitch before Saturday's show was already dead wrong, but they'd be downright barmie to insist as much now.

Happy birthday,
♥ Maggie.

Peggy receives a small envelope that holds a (non-moving) Polaroid photograph and a note. The photograph shows Peggy and Alec from Maggie's birthday a couple weeks prior, the former singing and the latter on the piano. Maggie's written "The Merry Minstrels of Urquhart" on the bottom.

Pegs,

You're welcome for sparing you from the nonsense. Drinks or dinner when you're settled into the new gig?

Fine. I'll settle for espionage instead, but only because you insist.

Miss you.

♥ M.

Alec receives a small envelope that has "OPEN VERY CAREFULLY" across the front and "I'M SERIOUS" across the back. When opened, the only things inside are... a pebble and a handful of ash? Try to be more careful next time, Alexander.

If the envelope is left open on a surface for a few minutes (it can be empty), it begins to drag itself aimlessly around the surface using its flap. No word on when it's going to stop, but when it does, it will be still for randomized amounts of time (two minutes? two weeks? all of the above.) before starting up again.

Perhaps you'll get fired when I blast half the club and blame it on a shareholder.

It snuck out of my office when I fell back asleep.

It's roaming the halls. I haven't heard it since 4:30. It could be anywhere.

I really doubt Owen can 'fire' me.

Is this a cry for help? [...] It was a genuine offer, you know.

Try him.

It was one of my lowest moments: a genuine cry for help. I'd rather regale you with the tale of how I splinched myself than admit defeat [...] so while I won't admit defeat, I am asking a temporary truce.

[...] Please.

And fuck y

You splinched yourself? Truce granted.

Let's find that pesky envelope before it wakes anyone else up and I won't even ask why you're sleeping in your office.
