Forgive me, but I am going to call bull shit on this one.

It does matter. I want to understand because you are both my colleague and my friend. I care about your well-being. Your suffering or guilt does not take away or change my own experiences.

However, ignoring your feels on the assumption it might do service to me or even your brother, does not work like that. We all need to work on moving forward and recovery together. I don't want to leave anyone behind.
