Who: Leanne and Katie
When: Lunchtime, after Leanne's post
Where: Tea room
What: Lunch.

Leanne loved getting together with Katie for lunch dates. Sometimes she could close her eyes and pretend it was the real thing. It was stupid, she knew, but there was this lingering hope that maybe some day Katie would come around.

She sent Katie a note saying where she'd be, then headed up to the tea room to sit and wait.

"This is fine. I just won't order whatever that was in Belby's journal." A heart attack. It was a heart attack. "How's the clan doing?" Of course, when asking how Leanne's family was, you had to prepare for a big story.

"Yeah, definitely not." Leanne gave a grin, closing her menu. "Oh, dear. Well, my cousin Tobias--you know, the one who nearly dropped out of school and had his wand broken? Well, he borrowed some money from my Auntie Sydney... a pretty large sum, actually. And it's caused so much strife. Everyone knows that Tobias' schemes never work out. Last I heard he was selling stolen goods."

"Like what, potions or iPods?" Oops. Katie's half-blood was showing. Katie had been envious of her cousin's iPod since she saw it two weeks ago, but she knew one of those would never work at the hospital.

"What's an I-pod?" Leanne asked, curiously. She grew up with wizards, and was fairly separated from the muggle world.

"It's a really tiny music player. They're popular. People used to get mugged for wearing the white head sets." Katie remembered her Dad telling her about an article he'd read on it. He was so refreshingly mundane.

"Mugged for a music player?" Leanne shook her head a little. "That's so strange. Muggles come up with the weirdest things." She couldn't imagine mugging someone for a music player.

"No, last I heard it was magical fashion accessories." Leanne said. "Out of a trunk off the back of his broom. He's nutters, I say."

"Who would buy something out of a trunk? Honestly?" Katie wasn't sure if she cared to know it was stolen. That wasn't her problem. The problem was getting ripped off and having no place to return it.

"Exactly. Too bad Tobias is such a git." She paused. "He's actually a very nice fella, he's just terrible with his get-rich-quick schemes." Leanne was about to say something else when her stomach gave a grumble. "Maybe we should order some food."

Katie called over a waitress, sad to see they didn't get Lisa. Lisa was sweet. This girl was a summer-job Hogwarts kid and hating every minute of it. She was spreading the hate.

"What're you eating?" the girl practically snarled. what a way to get tips!

"Tuna sandwich, cup of soup, and a soda water, please." Leanne responded, holding her menu out to the girl. She wasn't planning on leaving much of a tip after that snarl.

The girl turned to Katie, expectantly.

"Chicken salad sandwich. Raspberry herbal tea... ooh and I'll have a slice of the chocolate cake." Katie wasn't a light eater.

The girl turned without a word, and headed toward the kitchen to put in their orders.

Leanne gave Katie a funny look. "They should fire that girl. She's awful."

"She'll be gone come September first. She can try and treat McGonagall like that and see how it goes." Katie picked up a sugar packet off the table and started to play with it. She shook it and let all of the sugar clump at the bottom.

"Reminds me of my cousin's second wife Diana. She was such a rude person! Either that, or she had a hearing problem."

"Well, good luck to both of them." Leanne shrugged and turned back to Katie.

"How's work?"

Katie shrugged. "It's work. No great hilarious or infuriating stories. Things are staying pretty routine right now." Biting teacups and the like. Boring.

"Well, that's no good." Leanne said, putting on a mock stern face. "I want stories." Her own job was never really interesting.

Katie lowered her voice and leaned in close. "Did I tell you about the cursed blow up doll last week?" That was one hell of a story, but Katie wasn't sure if she'd told Leanne or not.

"Guy bought this doll, you know, one of those inflatable sex dolls," she whispered it. "And someone had hexed it so it got stuck.

Leanne gave a little gasp, lifting her hands to cover her mouth. She was grinning more brightly now. "No! Really? What happened??"

"He deflated it and packed it up as small as he could... wore baggy sweatpants in here. It was really horrible. Like a magical sticking charm. We couldn't get it off so we had to resort to drastic measures."

Katie figured she didn't have to tone it back for Leanne. Leanne was in the same line of work, after all. "We basically had to knock him out, skin it to get the thing off, and then grow the skin back. Lots of blood. lots of pain."

At first Leanne thought it was a funny story. But then Katie started talking about skinning a man's... you-know-what. It sounded awful! The smile faded from her face.

"Oh, Gods. That sounds terrible! The poor bloke."

"We let him stay knocked out for the rest of the day. He's going to still be sore, no matter what we do, for a week or so." Katie looked up just in time to see their waitress scowl at them. She sat up and put a napkin in her lap.

"I assume he'll be too embarrassed to press charges against whoever sold him the doll." Katie smirked. "Though at least he'll think twice before trying that again."
