Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Lisa and Roger
What: pseudo NOT date
When: tonight!
Where: Lisa's flat to start, then wherever Roger takes her
Rated: TBD

Lisa heard a knock. It seemed entirely too soon for Roger to be there. She had hardly finished her make-up! She wasn't even wearing shoes! Cussing quietly to herself, and angry at Marcus for choosing tonight to go out with his friends, she hurried. "Coming," she called, trying not to make him wait too long at the door.

She slipped on a pair of modest heels to match her dress and fastened her earrings as she walked towards the door. Composing herself, she shook her hair and exhaled. Then, she opened the door.

The first thing she noticed was that Roger looked nice. "Hi," she said after a few seconds of staring.

"Alright," he said, turning to face her on the doorstep. "Hold on tight." He wrapped his hands around her upper arms and stepped close so that they wouldn't get split up mid-crack.

Lisa inhaled sharply. Part of her was mentally and physically preparing for the sudden pull behind her nose. The other part was silently giddy over the feel of Roger's arms wrapped around hers. When they reappeared in front of the club, she exhaled loudly.

Roger took Lisa's hand and pulled her around the line waiting outside the club. Fan girls were jumping up and down, excited that they might get in. Some people were busy trying to look so cool that they might belong there. Roger walked right up to the wizard in dress robes at the door.

"I'm on the list. Davies." He had been the club owner's lawyer in a case back before he'd started working for the hospital.

As Lisa was pulled along behind Roger, she gaped at all the people in line. Some of the girls were eying her jealously as she passed, moving to the front. Roger was on a list! She'd never been on a list, or even been anyone's plus one for that matter.

"Look at all the people," she mused, sort of awestruck. She knew Donaghan was famous but this felt extreme.

"Come on, then." Roger tugged her in with him. Roger wanted to get out of the cold October air.

The club was dark with flashing lights and loud music. He could smell someone's too-much-cologne in the near vicinity. On stage a technician was setting up instruments. Roger pointed to a booth and shouted over the music. "Quick, let's get that spot before it's taken!"

She let him pull her into the club. It was sort of loud in there, but what else had she expected, really? It wouldn't be ideal for a conversation, that was for sure.

At his words, she followed his finger to an open booth. The only open booth. Now it was her turn to drag him along. She hurried over, hand still in his, pulling him with her. When she reached the seat, another girl nearby tried to grab it first. Lisa gave her a look and she backed off. "There." She was triumphant. She slid in first and scooted over so Roger could squeeze in next to her.

"This is really neat," she said, once she had a proper chance to look around. The lights were sort of mesmerizing.

Roger slid in after her and propped his arm up on the table to block the view of his lips from the girl Lisa had just blocked.

"You just gave that girl the evil eye," Roger said with a smile. "I think most blokes would pay to see that."

"She was trying to take our booth!" Lisa blushed, but under the lights it was impossible to see. She was sort of proud that he found it amusing. "Then we wouldn't have had a place to sit."

"I could charge admissions to Fit Girl Staring Contests. Make a killing."

Roger picked up the menu and glanced at it. There were about four choices of meals and five times as many drinks. Typical of these kinds of trendy places.

Fit Girl? Did he just say...Roger thought Lisa was fit? There was a development and a half. Lisa smiled to herself. Roger thought she was fit! There was no way to say it that made it sound bad. She was fit.

"Anything good on the menu?" She asked, still in ignorant bliss over his previous choice of words.

"Look for yourself. Quicker read than some of Brighton's illustrated books." The menu consisted of two different salads, a fillet Mignon, and sushi. Real trendy. Roger figured the sushi wouldn't make him feel stuffed and lethargic like the fillet Mignon would.

"Sushi sounds good," she said, taking a peek at the menu he was holding. Marcus made her taste all the different kinds at one point and she'd actually found it to be quite delicious. "I'm a red meat kind of girl but I don't think it will be quite as easy to dance with that in our stomachs." Lisa wasn't even sure if Roger was intending on dancing, but she was. Why else would anyone go see a band in a club?

"Well that's decided." Roger put the menu down and shouted at the black square plate in front of him. "I'll have the sushi and a light beer!"

Lisa nearly jumped out of her skin when Roger shouted at his plate. She'd forgotten all about magic restaurants that required no server. She was so used to Marcus waiting on her and and foot that she was knocked off guard.

"Sushi and a light beer," she repeated, not at all self conscious that she was copying him.

The meals magically appeared on the plate. It was perfect timing too. The lights on the stage dimmed and someone walked out to the mic.

"I think you all know who you're here to see," he said with a lopsided grin. All of the girls down front screamed and Roger had to cringe.

Lisa laughed when she saw Roger cringe out of the corner of his eye. She nudged him slightly with his arm and gave him a cheeky grin before turning her attention back to the stage. She was excited. Maybe not as excited as those girls in front row, but still pretty excited. It wasn't every day you saw Donaghan Tremlett play in a club. At least, not for Lisa.

Roger picked up the chopsticks that had appeared on his plate and grabbed a piece of sushi roll. He dipped it in soy sauce and popped it into his mouth, watching the stage as Donaghan Tremlett, still donning dreadlocks after all of these years, walked on stage with a guitar.

"He taught Kevin Entwhistle how to play," Roger delivered this piece of trivia when he'd swallowed his first bite.

"I didn't know that! I only knew Kevin was on tour with them when he was with the Sisters." She popped a piece of maguro in her mouth. It was delicious. Fresh. You could always tell which sushi was fresh by it's taste. Her face lit up. "This is really good sushi!"

Roger smiled. "Cliff has good taste." Cliff was the owner. "In food at least, maybe not women." As Roger remembered, most of Cliff's legal problems came from dating with proper crazy-bitchdar.

"Cat custody? Sounds riveting," she laughed, pausing to take a sip of her beer. "Did you win?" What a stupid question. Of course he won. Lisa imagined Roger never losing. He was just so charming and suave, he could probably make anyone believe him.

"Yeah. Ex was a madwoman. She snapped in court and started screaming and they decided in favour of him. Of course, that was nothing compared to when she tracked down who was going to be representing him the week before and showed up at my flat in a corset and garters. Brighton was two at the time and I had to slam the door on her face so he wouldn't see her." Crazy-bitch-dar. Every guy needed it.

Lisa looked sort of horrified at his story. A woman showed up at his house? Poor Roger! She ate another piece of sushi and contemplated what Roger's life might have been like before she babysat for him. Lonely, probably. And apparently full of crazy women.

"I like this song," she said after a moment. Donaghan was in the middle of an acoustic ballad. It made it much easier to talk over.

Roger nodded. "It's very pretty."

Roger ate quietly, listening to the lyrics. Some of the crowd was swaying with lit wands in the air. Roger just listened and absorbed it all.
