Hermione Granger studies harder than you. ([info]her_my_nee) wrote in [info]my_rpg,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Weasleys, Potters and a Granger
When: Friday night (foredated to tomorrow)
Where: The Burrow
What: Dinner!

It was a standing invitation. Every Friday Mr. and Mrs. Weasley would host a family dinner at The Burrow. Hermione and Harry, though not technically Weasleys, were always invited. Of course Harry was, being an in-law, but Hermione thought herself incredibly lucky and honored to be included in the Weasley Family gatherings. Especially because she and Ron weren't... well...

Hermione showed up to The Burrow after work on Friday, a little earlier than usual, so that she could offer Mrs. Weasley some help getting ready for dinner. When she arrived, however, Mrs. Weasley ushered her into the living room and forced her to sit down. Apparently, dinner was nearly finished, anyway, and Mrs. Weasley didn't want Hermione working.

Hermione settled into her chair with a glass of pumpkin juice and turned to stare out the window. It felt good to be in The Burrow again.

Hermione thought of Fred, too. That horrible explosion in the castle... seeing Fred's unseeing eyes staring up at Percy and Ron, who clung to their brother's body... it was a horrible thought and she had to close her eyes and shake her head to rid herself of it. If she never thought about that night again, it'd be too soon.

The bad parts of that night, anyway. There were good parts.

She forced a soft laugh. "Did you let him? I would have let him. Get some free labor out of his molly-coddling."

"Molly coddling," Ron laughed. "Like Mum." And then he shook his head. "No, I didn't let him. I was annoyed. His brotherly advice didn't do much for my self-esteem." He grinned, kicking at the ground just to have something to do. "What did he tell you?" he asked. "He didn't warn you to stay away from me or some stupid thing like that, did he?"

Hermione opened her mouth to respond, but then blushed. "No, actually." She said after a moment of trying to figure out what to say. "The opposite, actually."

The words came back to her and made her blush further. "He... he asked if I was going to take your name."

Ron blushed the deepest shade of red he had ever managed in his life. "What?" he said, as though he hadn't the words properly. "Merlin, Percy," he muttered. "First he's telling me I'm incapable of one date, now he's got us married off," he said shaking his head. "I don't know what gets into my brothers, I swear."

"With children," Hermione added. "I think he wants the Weasley line to multiply, or something." She was nearly as red as Ron was.

"It's all right. I'm not worried about it. We don't need to fuss over what they think." She was trying to will her cheeks to lose their pink. It probably wasn't working.

"I am sorry, Hermione," Ron said. "Bloody Harry and Ginny and getting married before us." His mouth went dry. "I mean, you know, before and before me...oh, hell." He sighed. "How many children does he want us to have after one proper date, exactly? I'd like to go hex him right now, I would."

"I told him I wasn't going to have as many children as your Mum." Hermione said, shaking her head. His babbling wasn't doing much for her trying to rid her face of the pink. Had he really thought about the two of them married?

"I think Harry wants to marry us off, too." She said, turning to throw a glance at the house. She imagined Harry, George, and Percy in the kitchen right now. Probably using extendable ears to listen to them.

"Harry?" Ron said. "Really? You think he thinks about that?" Ron shrugged. "I figured he's so caught up being married himself, he doesn't quite notice the rest of us, you know?"

Hermione shook her head. "He's the one who told me to bid on you. Offered to back me financially if I needed it. I think he's desperate for us to start dating or something, so he won't feel like he and Ginny jumped the gun." Muggle expression. Did he know what it meant?

"Anyway, let's not talk about them anymore." She reached forward and took his hand. "Do you have a broomstick here? Maybe we could... go for a fly tonight?" She went a little pink, and was glad it was dark out.

"Well, yeah, true," Ron said. "He was sort of on my case about it, too, but I didn't think he was suddenly all about marriage!" Jumped the gun, thought Ron. He had an idea that a gun was a Muggle weapon, but couldn't quite figure out why a person would jump it, though he had heard the phrase in passing. He decided not to ask, and just moved on to the next topic, which was a million times more important.

"Oh, yeah, sure," he said with a big smile. "I keep a broom here. Nice night for it, too." He glanced at Hermione. "You're sure you're up for it?"

Hermione wasn't sure if Harry wanted them married, or if he just wanted them dating. Either way, Hermione imagined it might be fun to double date with Harry and Ginny. Or would that feel awkward for Ron? She didn't know.

"So long as you won't let me fall." She said, smiling shyly. She wasn't sure why she was feeling shy all of a sudden. It was her idea to fly tonight, wasn't it?

"Never," Ron said. "I'll hold on tight, I promise." He smiled shyly, but managed not to dissolve into awkward nervousness too quickly. He wanted to do this. He wanted to take Hermione flying right here, in the backyard at the Burrow, under the stars. And therefore, he would.

"Shall I get the broom then?" he asked.

"Yes, please." Hermione responded, nodding. She could feel butterflies in her stomach, nervous about being up so high and being cuddled so close against him.

"I'll wait for you here?" She said. It was more a statement than a question, but it was still stuck somewhere between the two.

Ron nodded. "I'll be right back," he said, then went off toward the shed where he'd left a broomstick.

A moment later, he was back, grinning broadly and motioning for Hermione to step in closer to him. "Here it is," he said. "Are you ready for this?"

Hermione stepped closer. "Oh, yes." Hermione said, giving him a smile and a nod. She was definitely ready.

"Do I need to do anything?" She asked. She hadn't been flying in so long, she'd nearly forgotten her lessons.

"Well, here," Ron said, using the logical part of his mind to sort out the best way to approach mounting the broom. "Let me get on like this." He stood, straddling the broomstick, and getting a feel for it - it had been a while since he'd done any flying now that he thought about it - and then motioned for Hermione to climb on in front of him.

"Alright, now if you sit right here, I can, um, hold you in place, yeah? And make sure you're alright."

"Right." Hermione stepped closer, then lifted one leg to climb onto the broom in front of him. It made her relatively self-conscious that this gave him a nice view of her backside. She settled down on the broom, holding onto it rather tightly.

"Like this?" She was feeling nervous again.

Ron was actually not looking (much) at Hermione's backside; he was more concerned with the logistics of sitting two people on a broom. "Yeah, like that," he said in a soft voice that could only be called affectionate. "Feel alright?"

Hermione gave a little nod. "Yes, feels good." It really did. And when Ron wrapped an arm around her, it'd feel even better. Not only because she'd be warm and cuddled close against him, but because it'd be even more safe. She trusted Ron with her life. She'd seen him fly and knew that he was good.

"We're not leaving the ground until you ask me to," Ron said. "I can't have you dying of fright on my broom." He chuckled. It was strange, in a good way, having Hermione so close like this, and he honestly thought he'd be content to just stand here like this if it meant they could be close like they were.

Hermione gave a little nod. After a moment she'd relaxed her body a bit, and her breathing was a bit more regular. She wasn't as nervous--but couldn't quite figure out why. She nodded once more. "I'm ready."

"Alright, here we go," Ron said, and began steering the broom away from the ground, and up toward the stars. "How do you feel?" he asked, keeping that secure hold around her waist as he flew up and up, wanting to get up there high enough to see the view of the Burrow and the grounds surrounding it. He loved that view, maybe more than anything else in the world.

Hermione's hands were tight on the broomstick--her knuckles white. But she wasn't freaking out. Actually, she was a lot more calm than she thought she would be. His arm around her definitely helped. "I'm all right." She commented softly, turning a little to catch a glimpse of him over her shoulder. "Just don't let go."

"I would never," Ron said into Hermione's ear, and then, because he knew he could always blame it on the broom if it wasn't well-received, he gave her a tiny kiss on the cheek. "Look," he said, as they finally reached optimum height. "The Burrow looks like a toy from here."

It was well-received. Hermione flushed, her eyes closing at the tiny kiss. Or was that the fear? No, definitely the kiss. She opened her eyes again, grinning softly, and turned to look down at The Burrow.

"Oh, goodness." It was beautiful. Beautiful, but slightly scary. She leaned back against him a little more, her hands tightening on the broom. "...it's lovely." She managed. And she meant it.
