“He is kind of handsome, no?” Aurora smiled toward Chamber and Maverick, fingering the photograph she’d just pulled out from the large yellow envelope handed to them by a stoic CIA agent. “You know, for an evil genocidal maniac.”

Maverick snatched the file from her hands, scowling. “We’re here to take him down, Aurora, not to pick him up.”

“So serious” Aurora rolled her eyes toward Chamber, who flashed her an amused wink, lip quirking upward as he cracked his knuckles against his gloved palm.

“Let’s get this over with, shall we?” Chamber glanced toward Maverick, nodding toward the CIA envelope, “What are our directions, then?”

Maverick squinted up at the building - nondescript in nature, the windows clouded over with a decade’s worth of grime and graffiti scrawled across the walls. Just a regular, run down warehouse; perhaps the reason it had been chosen in the first place - no one would think to look twice at it. To a trained eye, however it was more than just a dilapidated structure. The door was thick and heavy with no obvious latch to speak of, and there were more than just the standard CCTV cameras attached to the roof.

“The CIA didn’t give us much to work with,” Maverick grunted, “all it says is this is the hideout of some millionaire calling himself the Mutant Master, and there’s evidence of him plotting to wipe out the human race,” he flicked through the file he still clutched in his thick fingers, reading off the page “‘in order to establish a Mutant Master Race.’”

Langley, Virginia, three weeks ago...

"Everything we got points to KGB. How the hell am I supposed to go to the Director of National Intelligence and tell him we got some rogue Russian mutant going around, hunting down our informants?"

It was another hectic day in the headquarters of the Central Intelligence Agency. Their average intelligence collection in and on Russia had gone sour after several of their informants were found dead. One of the informants had risked a lot to deliver information to the CIA and had developed a close bond with the Director.

This had the makings of an international intelligence disaster if the media caught wind of it. It didn't look good for the CIA and more importantly, it meant they had a bigger problem than they could handle.

"Director?" The Agent moved quickly to get in step with her superior. ( 'I may have a solution.' )

Tired of being thwarted at every turn and in a perpetual rage concerning the death of her sister, Illyana, The Wicked Witch of the West had decided that she needed to employ a new tactic in order to crush the nasty little girl known as Tatiana: Divide and conquer. It was a simple plan, even beautiful in its plainness and that was why she was so convinced it would work as she strode around the circular room at the top of a very tall tower. Yes, she thought, swirling her black robes about herself while she paced. Without her teeny little band of supporters and followers Tatiana would be left quite bereft, lost and alone in a big scary world with which she was not familiar and at last things would begin to return to the way that they ought to be. Looking out through the stone arch of a window she smiled to herself slowly. Yes, it was a wonderful simple plan.

"Nikko!" Shrilly she summoned the leader of her legion of winged monkeys, sweeping away from the window again and snapping her fingers.

At the second calling of his name he loped into the room and bowed grotesquely; ( Yes, my mistress? )

It was true, Tatiana was not in Kansas anymore. She had learned that when her home was swept away by a vast tornado tossing her here and there. She had learned even more so still when that house landed upon a wicked witch granting her silver slippers. The brave young girl was now a hero to a people called the munchkins, blessed with a kiss by a good witch, and wished ill by another wicked witch for the death of her sister.

All she wanted was to go home. A way home.

The hotel may be secure, but its residents' minds were not.

The passcode to get in had been plucked from the mind of an overactive teenager on their way to the hotel after school. When they made their way into the hotel after the majority of the residents and that night's guests had retired, illusion cloaked their entry. The residents that were awake felt the sudden need to sleep and if they were lucky, they got to the mattress before they fell unconscious.

With the young mutants in the hotel at their mercy, the sisters Wyngarde did a brief telepathic sweep of the grounds, making sure no one had been immune to their wiles and remained awake. Jason Wyngarde and Manuel de la Rocha followed before the four toured the hotel, setting up their operations in the abandoned penthouse on the top floor.
