Minor Injury Meme

A meme for those minor injuries that won't leave you down but make it hard to live your life. The breaks, sprains, and the hurt/comfort that comes with them.

INJURIES

1. SPRAIN: you stepped the wrong way, twisted the wrong way, and something has gone terribly wrong. Just remember RICE - Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

2. FRACTURE: You step off the sidewalk, working in the backyard, and suddenly BAM!! But it's not a sprain, oh no, you're in a cast for the duration. Good luck trying to get to work.

3. PULLED: It's not bad enough for medical attention but it still hurts something fierce. Break out the tiger balm or someone to give you a hand because you've pulled something. That awkward moment when you think you want vicodin...and nobody will give it to you.

4. MIGRAINE: Light hurts, air hurts, moving hurts. All you can do is lie in a darkened room and pray for the pounding pain to go away behind your eyes.

5. THE FLU: Maybe you're physically fine – well… all your limbs are working. You just feel like death warmed over.

6. WILDCARD: Anything else you can think of.

SCENARIOS

1. INJURED! WHAT NEXT?: You're out working, you're out having fun, you're out doing something when suddenly you step, twist, move and our bodies demonstrate just how fragile they really are. Quick! someone call the ambulance!

2. THE EMERGENCY ROOM: All the fun of a waiting room with rewards that include crutches, casts, X-Rays, vicodin, and sometimes just that one nurse who says "Yeah there's nothing wrong with you that'll be 400 dollars."

3. HOME AND SETTING UP THE NEST: Hurt, trying to make a space for you to get around. Hopefully someone is there to help you get to your crutches so you can go to the bathroom and make yourself something to eat.

4. PHYSICAL THERAPY HOME EDITION: The obligatory smut option. Do you not see that I'm wearing this cast?

5. OH GOD HELP I'M GOING TO DIE: That awkward moment when the fact that you are bedridden is crushing down on you and you're terrified you'll do something to make the injury worse. Snappish, angry, and rude - who are you going to take it out on?

6. DRIVE ME TO THE DOCTOR THIS SHIT IS COMING OFF: It's time, they say you can come in, take it off, and begin the next stage of recovery. Failing that, you’re going to grab a saw and cut the damn thing off yourself! Will there be joy, laughter, crying, happiness?

7. WILDCARD: Anything else you can think of.

"The ambulance is on its way." Sam said, she had stayed with Thor, and he was holding her hand. Lukas crawled onto Daniel's lap. He touched Lucille's side lightly, and he could see her memory of Silver's friend cutting her with a knife. His brain didn't know how to process that, so he looked up at her. "Papa is glad you're okay, Nona." He said, black curls falling over his eyes.

Brushing them back, she said, "I'm glad that you're all okay, too. He told me he was going to kill all of you. I'm glad that you're alive." She looked at Daniel then, as she brushed her fingers through Lukas' curls. "You look just like your papa, Lukas." She hoped she was conveying to Daniel that she understood he would tell her about Louie later.

Then she dropped her gaze back to Lukas. "You just wait till I'm healed up. I'll make you my chicken." He grinned at her, and said, "I can heal you, Nona!" At this, Thor looked at his son, arching an eyebrow. Since when was this a thing?

Daniel wrapped an arm around Lukas to balance him on his knee so he wouldn't tumble off. His heart was racing far too fast. So much had happened so quickly, he could barely process it all. Lucille was alive. Louie was dead. Thor was injured. Silver was more psychotic than ever. There was a lot to unpack and digest.

He stroked Lukas's side gently. "Sweetheart... what do you mean you can heal Nona?" He asked, keeping his voice soft. Prying as carefully as he could without trying to make it overwhelming.

"I had a boo-boo, and I touched it, and it got better." Lukas said, looking up at Daniel. "Maybe I can heal Nona." Lukas said, and looked at Thor. "Maybe I could heal you too, Daddy." Lukas added, but he seemed unsure of how strong his new healing powers may be.

Putting a hand on Lucille's injury in her side, he closed his eyes, there was a flash of light, and his tongue sticking out of his mouth, and Lucille gasped, putting her hand to her side. "Daniel, I think he did it." She said, lifting her shirt enough to see. She pulled back the bandage just enough to look. "Oh my God." Lucille said, changing what she'd meant to say, little pitchers had little ears.

Lukas, worrying his lip, looked up at Daniel. "Did I do good, Papa?" He asked, not wanting to be sent to his room. Or for Daniel to still be sad.

	Daniel leaned to look at Lucille's side. Holy shit. Holy shit. Lukas' powers were growing and expanding with every day. He just hoped that Lukas would be able to adjust and cope with them. Lukas yawned. "Maybe. It's a big boo-boo." He said, leaning back into Daniel. "Not sleepy." He declared, a moment before he fell asleep, head tucked against Daniel's chest, thumb sticking out of his mouth.

"What the fuck?" Thor asked, as soon as Lukas was asleep. "He can heal now? We've got enough problems trying to keep his other powers in control." He looked at Lucille, who seemed in awe of the little boy, and everything that had happened. "Lucille, I'm... I'm glad you came back. Daniel needs you, maybe more than he'd admit out loud." Thor was also glad because Daniel had been pushing Thor away, and now maybe that would stop.

After lifting her gaze from her now healed side, she looked at Thor. "I need Daniel, too. I'm so sorry for what I did. It is obvious you love my son. And obvious that he loves you, and Sam and Lukas obviously love you both. I want to be a great nona for him, and you can call me Ma." She told him, something she'd never extended to Amanda, but she also knew that Amanda hadn't been good enough for Daniel. She'd never gotten him.

But Lucille wouldn't trade Sam or Anthony for the world.

Daniel carefully lifted Lukas off of his lap and settled him on the sofa next to Lucille. Poor little thing had tired himself out. It would definitely take some adjusting to all his new powers.

He leaned over to press a kiss to the top of Lucille's head. He still couldn't believe she was here. She was alive and she was here. Part of him was convinced he was still asleep. That all of this was a dream being conjured up by his grieving mind.

Getting up, he made his way over to Thor and shifted to lay on the floor with him as they waited for the ambulance. "We'll figure everything out together. Lukas' powers. How we move forward. All of it. Together."

Thor looked at him. Sam moved to go hug Lucille, to give them a moment. "Really? Because before Ma came walking through that door, I was pretty sure we were over." Thor said, grimacing with pain. His head was suddenly pounding as bad as it was the day before.

He closed his eyes, reaching out and lacing his fingers with Daniel's. "My head is worse." He told Daniel, his voice quiet. He didn't want to worry Sam or Lucille. And that was without the pain in his leg, which he was doing his best to not move. He didn't want it to set wrong, he wanted it to be a clean break so it didn't require surgery. Tony'd had to have surgery on his broken arm, it had not been pleasant.

Mostly because Tony was a whiner when he was injured or ill, and Bruce had needed help with him. Not that Thor minded that, they were his family, and family helped out. Speaking of, Peter arrived with Morgan, who was five, just a couple of years older than Lukas.

"I'm sorry. I... I wasn't in a good place." Honestly, he still wasn't in that great of a place. He had witnessed his cousin be murdered in cold blood by the man who had used and abused him when he was too young and naive to know better. Just seeing Terry Silver again had brought up a whole lot of trauma he had repressed for years.

He settled his head on Thor's chest, reaching to massage his head like he had before. "It's hurting worse? So what happened yesterday wasn't the cause? Something worse is coming?" How could it possibly get worse? His stomach was already knotting at the thought of it.

He knew he probably shouldn't lay on the floor. His back wouldn't thank him for it later and the ambulance seemed to be taking forever, but he wanted to be near Thor.

"Uncle Thor!" Morgan squealed, running over to him. "Oh no, you have a boo-boo." She said, sitting cross legged beside him. "Hi, Uncle Daniel." She said, and reached into her pocket. She pulled out a handkerchief, and handed it to him.

On it was a bonsai tree. "I helped sew it for you." She said, very proud of herself. "Daddy and Papa helped me." Peter saw her, and said, "Morgan, would you come and help me set up the toys for you and Lukas? Don't bother Uncle Thor and Uncle Daniel, okay?" He said, and she sighed.

"I wanted to give Uncle Daniel my present." She told him, but leaned in and kissed both of them on the cheek. "I gotta go help Petey." She told them, and hurried off to do so. She was wearing an Iron Man shirt with Hulk shorts. She was very proud of her dads.

Thor's eyes were closed, leaning into Daniel's touch. "I guess not." He said, his voice still quiet."

"Hey Sweetheart," Daniel greeted. He couldn't believe how well Thor's family had accepted him. Then again, Sam and Anthony had accepted Thor and Lukas easily enough. He accepted the handkerchief, looking awed. "Oh wow. That's amazing, Morgan. Thank you, it's incredible. I'll cherish it forever. You're so clever."

It warmed his heart that she had thought of him and gone out of her way to make him something. She was a great kid. "Hi Petey," he called through to Peter.

Daniel continued to massage Thor's head, his own head on Thor's chest so he could hear his heartbeat. "Seriously... why is the ambulance taking so long?" Eventually he heard the sirens in the distance. Thank fuck.

He was apprehensive about leaving everyone though. They would be okay though... right? They had to be. Still, he couldn't shake the fear.

Peter called back, "Hey, Uncle Daniel. I'm sorry about what happened." He added, putting down the box of toy cars they'd brought, Lukas loved to play with those. And the Barbies. Lukas loved those, too.

Thor was going to reply when he heard the sirens, and let out a breath. "Finally." He said, and in moments, the EMTs were there and pulling a stretcher with them. Peter held Morgan back, she had a fascination with medical personnel, and Sam directed them to Thor. He was worried, his heart was beating slower.

"We're going to help you on the stretcher now, sir." The male EMT said, and leaned down to help lift Thor, which was no easy feat. Sam moved to help, too. "Here, Daddy, hold my arm." She said, it would help steady him.

Daniel tried to keep out of the EMTs way. It was hard though because he just wanted to help. The ambulance took forever to get here and Thor looked a lot worse now than he had earlier. That couldn't be good.

"Am I okay to come in the ambulance or do I need to follow behind in the car?" He asked, really not wanting to leave Thor's side or drive.

He looked at Sam. "Be good. Stay safe. Listen to what Peter and Nona tell you. Don't let anyone you don't know in, okay? I love you. I'll call as soon as I have news."

"You can come with him. Are you his partner, sir?" The EMT asked, Thor's eyes had just shut. Sam tried to focus on Daniel, and not the fact that Thor was now unconscious. "Okay, I'll behave." She said, deciding not to point out to Daniel that Peter was barely two years older than her, and they were both going to be watching Lukas and Morgan together.

Lucille called out to Daniel. "Don't worry about anything, baby, we'll be fine. You focus on your man." She told him, Lukas was now laying against her, his head burrowed into her now healed side.

Daniel nodded. "Yes, he's my fiance." Okay, so maybe that wasn't quite true. They weren't officially engaged or anything. But Daniel was pretty sure he was going to spend the rest of his life with Thor and that was kind of the same thing, right? And the hospital may be more willing to share information if they think they're engaged.

He tried to keep calm. Thor was unconscious but he was in good hands. The EMTs would know what to do, surely? They were trained for this kind of thing.

Daniel kissed Sam on the head, before moving to kiss Lucille on the cheek. "I'll call as soon as there's news. Please... stay safe."

Trying to swallow down his nerves, Daniel followed the EMTs out to the ambulance.

They took Thor out to the ambulance, and the woman who had asked if they were together looked at Daniel. "I know you, you're Daniel LaRusso. My dad saw you win in 84, he's always been a huge fan." She said, as they pushed the stretcher up into the ambulance. Then she hooked an IV up to Thor's arm, pain medication in case he woke up.

"How long has his leg been broken? How long before we arrived? And how did it happen? No one attached to Silver did this?" She asked. Everyone had been talking about it, and she hoped that it wasn't going to upset Daniel that she'd had to ask.

"That's me." Way to remind a guy he was old, lady. Daniel remembered a time when people who recognised him had seen him at the tournaments themselves. Now he was meeting the kids of people who had seen him and it was a giant smack to the face that he wasn't young anymore.

"I don't know how long it's been. It felt like forever. Maybe half hour? An hour? He fell on the stairs. Tripped on our kid's toys." Daniel wanted to believe that Silver's reign of terror was over, that he had hurt his last person. But somehow he doubted that was the case.

"If it makes you feel any better, he was only ten when he saw you win." She told him, as she went about setting Thor's leg so it would be ready for them to put in a cast. She gave him a soft small smile. "You have kids? That's cute." She had heard the girl Daniel had spoken to call Thor "Daddy", but she knew he wasn't biologically old enough to be her father. They must have a younger one.

She was wondering what made him lose consciousness though. "Anything else wrong? A broken leg most likely wouldn't lead to unconsciousness. It's unlikely, unless the pain was great enough. Not at all judging, I'm just trying to make sure your fiancé gets the best care possible."

It was good it had nothing to do with Silver. But she didn't want to bring him up again, so she didn't.

"Yeah, we have three kids. Sam's our eldest. Then Tony. Then Lukas is the youngest." Daniel hoped Thor wouldn't mind him introducing all the kids as both of theirs. Not that Thor was currently in any state to mind about anything.

He worried his bottom lip between his teeth. "I'm not sure if it's related, but he's had a really bad migraine since yesterday. Nothing seemed to touch it, painkillers, ice pack, ginger, none of it. Only thing that seemed to help was rubbing his temples and massaging his scalp."

"Oh, that's not good. We'll have to do an MRI as soon as we get there." She said, making a note on the chart she was doing intake of Thor on. Thor wouldn't have minded at all Daniel calling all three of the kids his. Thor definitely felt as if Sam and Anthony were his.

"He may have a brain tumor." She said, hating to have to say that part. But she didn't want to lie or give him false hope.

Daniel felt his heart sink. A brain tumour? Fuck. Fuck, fuck, fuck. This could not be happening. "Is that the most likely scenario? Is there a chance it could be something else? What sort of odds are we looking at here?"

Could Gods even get brain tumours? Fuck. His stomach was doing cartwheels from the nerves. Daniel took hold of Thor's hand in his, holding it tight.

She bit her lip, looking at him. "I can't lie to you, Mr. LaRusso. It's very high odds. Especially because I know he's Thor Odinson, he's one of The Avengers. He's the God of Thunder. It wouldn't be just anything."

The ambulance roared into the hospital parking lot, coming to a stop at the ER entrance. The other EMTs joined them, after they'd opened the back of the bus. She looked at them. "Fiance says that he's been having a migraine since yesterday, and nothing has helped. Only massage of the scalp." She told them. "We have to rush him to MRI in neuro right away."

They shared a grim nod, and started to pull Thor out slowly, not wanting to jostle him.

Daniel desperately wanted to stay by Thor's side. But he knew the professionals had a job to do. He did his best to stay out of their way as they got Thor out of the ambulance.

He felt his chest tightening with fear and anxiety. Like someone had fastened a ratchet strap around his torso and were tightening it. This couldn't be happening. He couldn't lose Thor. Not when he had just gotten his Ma back.

Tony Banner didn't sit on any kind of ceremony, and so he was waiting outside the ER doors as they whisked Thor inside. He waved to Daniel. "Hello, Daniel." He said, he was holding two boboa cups, huge, and handed one to Daniel. "Yours is passionfruit and grape." He said, giving him a grin.

"My husband would be here, but his work wouldn't let him go. Apparently they don't count family as anything but blood." Tony rolled his eyes. "Good thing I'm retired at forty-four." He said, holding up his cup and taking a long sip.

"I'm here for you, whatever you need." Tony said. "And I'm listed as the other person on Blondie's ECs."

Tony's voice cut through Daniel's impending panic attack and brought his focus back to the here and now. He accepted the cup, somehow getting his mouth to work enough to mumble out a thanks.

He watched as Thor and the medics disappeared from sight before turning his attention back to Tony. "They think it's a brain tumour. Fuck... I should've noticed something was seriously wrong, that it was more than just a migraine but I was so wrapped up in my own shit that I was too fucking sefish to notice..."

"Hey, no, Jersey, it's not your fault." Tony said, touching Daniel's arm. He gave everyone nicknames, it was his way of being affectionate. He thought Daniel was very good for Thor, and he knew that Thor was happy. "He loves you. And you thought your ma was deed. He knows that."

Tony tugged Daniel into a hug, squeezing him tightly. "Don't beat yourself up, okay? Please. That's not gonna help him now. What will help him is you being here, especially when he wakes up. Which he will." Tony stepped back, brown eyes meeting brown eyes.

He could definitely see what Thor saw in Daniel.
