Minor Injury Meme


A meme for those minor injuries that won't leave you down but make it hard to live your life. The breaks, sprains, and the hurt/comfort that comes with them.

INJURIES

1. SPRAIN: you stepped the wrong way, twisted the wrong way, and something has gone terribly wrong. Just remember RICE - Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

2. FRACTURE: You step off the sidewalk, working in the backyard, and suddenly BAM!! But it's not a sprain, oh no, you're in a cast for the duration. Good luck trying to get to work.

3. PULLED: It's not bad enough for medical attention but it still hurts something fierce. Break out the tiger balm or someone to give you a hand because you've pulled something. That awkward moment when you think you want vicodin...and nobody will give it to you.

4. MIGRAINE: Light hurts, air hurts, moving hurts. All you can do is lie in a darkened room and pray for the pounding pain to go away behind your eyes.

5. THE FLU: Maybe you're physically fine – well… all your limbs are working. You just feel like death warmed over.

6. WILDCARD: Anything else you can think of.

SCENARIOS

1. INJURED! WHAT NEXT?: You're out working, you're out having fun, you're out doing something when suddenly you step, twist, move and our bodies demonstrate just how fragile they really are. Quick! someone call the ambulance!

2. THE EMERGENCY ROOM: All the fun of a waiting room with rewards that include crutches, casts, X-Rays, vicodin, and sometimes just that one nurse who says "Yeah there's nothing wrong with you that'll be 400 dollars."

3. HOME AND SETTING UP THE NEST: Hurt, trying to make a space for you to get around. Hopefully someone is there to help you get to your crutches so you can go to the bathroom and make yourself something to eat.

4. PHYSICAL THERAPY HOME EDITION: The obligatory smut option. Do you not see that I'm wearing this cast?

5. OH GOD HELP I'M GOING TO DIE: That awkward moment when the fact that you are bedridden is crushing down on you and you're terrified you'll do something to make the injury worse. Snappish, angry, and rude - who are you going to take it out on?

6. DRIVE ME TO THE DOCTOR THIS SHIT IS COMING OFF: It's time, they say you can come in, take it off, and begin the next stage of recovery. Failing that, you’re going to grab a saw and cut the damn thing off yourself! Will there be joy, laughter, crying, happiness?

7. WILDCARD: Anything else you can think of.

"Seems like drama follows me and Johnny everywhere. Has done since the first time we met." Daniel let out a sigh, elbows rested on his knees, head resting on his hands. "I'm tired of the drama. I'm tired of fighting every single day of my life. I just want to spend the rest of my life with my guy, raising our kids."

Was that too much to ask? Couldn't fate give him a break just for a little while?

Tony rubbed his back. "I promise, Jersey, Bruce and I will do our best to help you with that." He told him, as Daniel's phone started to ring. "Hey, your phone, might be one of the kids." He told him, rubbing in circles.

Sam had called Daniel, the kids were down for a nap, and so was Lucille. She wanted to know if there was any news. She knew Daniel had promised to call, but she still wanted to know.

The touch definitely helped to ground Daniel. He pulled out his phone and saw the caller ID. His stomach knotted with worry. What if Silver had come back? What if Lucille had taken a turn for the worst? He swallowed down the worry and accepted the call.

"Hey Sweetheart." No Silver. No casualties. Everything was fine on their end. Thank god for that. "No news here yet. They rushed Thor right in. They're concerned about his brain... It's... It doesn't look too good."

Sam sniffled. "What?" She asked, her stomach feeling like it was filled with lead. She hadn't thought that it was going to be this bad. "Dad, please, tell me you aren't there all by yourself." She said, her blue eyes brushing with tears. What if something happened to Thor, and Daniel was all alone?

She would never forgive herself for that. She should have insisted that she go with him. "I can be there as soon as I can, Peter can handle Lukas and Morgan. They're both napping right now, and they're both being really good." She said, but she honestly wasn't surprised about that.

"I'm okay, Sweetheart. I'm not by myself. Tony is here. And um... Johnny Lawrence was brought in. He was losing a lot of blood. I dunno if you want to give Miguel a heads up."

He scrubbed his face with his hand, letting out a heavy sigh. "You stay there with Peter, your Gran and the kids. I'll let you know as soon as I have any news."

"Oh good, Uncle Tony." Sam said, letting out a breath. "What happened to Sensei Lawrence?" She asked, bewildered. She wondered what he'd gotten himself into. "I'll let Miggy know." She said, letting out a breath. She hoped that he was going to be okay. Miguel wouldn't be able to take it if something bad happened.

Sam let out another breath. "Please, Dad. It's... Lukas already lost one dad. He can't lose Daddy, too." Her voice was trembling.

"He... actually, I don't know all the details. Bar fight, I think. But I'm not sure." Daniel wasn't about to go into what Tony had said about Johnny willingly getting into fights and going down a path of self-destruction because he was apparently hopelessly in love with Daniel.

"I know, Sweetheart, I know. But he's in the best place. And we'll know more after his scans. We need to stay positive, okay?"

Sam let out another shaky breath. "I know, I'm doing my best to be positive. I'm glad that you're not alone. Tell Uncle Tony I said thanks." She liked him and Bruce, they were nice. Although she was starting to think Peter had a thing for Demetri, and that wasn't necessarily a good thing.

"Please, eat something, okay? Especially if you have to be there a long time." Sam knew how he got. "And Anthony wanted me to ask you if you could find something gross and take a picture of it." She rolled her eyes.

How anyone could have a thing for Demetri was beyond Daniel. Demetri was a good kid, a great kid. But he was so neurotic and mouthy and just... an annoying shit.

"I can't stomach anything. Tony bought me boba and I drank that, but the thought of eating makes me want to puke. I'll get something later, I promise. As for Anthony... Let me send you a picture to show him."

He sent a photo of Anthony to Sam. "There, show him that and tell him it's something gross." A little light teasing was fine, right?

Sam rolled her eyes. "God, Dad, you have such dad jokes." She said, but she giggled a little. "Just you have to promise that you're going to try, okay?"

She was definitely going to show Anthony the picture though. She also knew he was going to be bummed out that he didn't get to see something really gross.

"You love my dad jokes and you know it." He smiled, even though she couldn't see it. "I promise I'll eat something later. Even if it's just something out of the vending machines."

"Sam, I love you. You know that, right? I'll call you as soon as I have any news on Thor or Sensei Lawrence."

"Okay. I love you too, Dad. I was just going insane worrying." Sam told him, said bye, and hung up. Tony was going to say something to Daniel when a bloodied nurse came up to them.

"Daniel LaRusso? I believe you're Thor Odinson's fiance?" She asked, not sure which one of them was Daniel.

Daniel stood and gave a nod. "That's right," he said, paling at the sight of the blood. Jeez. That was a lot of blood.

His hands felt clammy, his heart was racing. "Is there any news?" From the look of her, he doubted it could be good news.

"There is. We have determined that Mr. Odinson does have a brain tumor. We tried to remove it, but we could only get some of it. So actually, it's not such bad news. He should be able to do chemo, see if we can shrink it. Then we can remove it all."

She took a breath, Tony had reached out to squeeze Daniel's shoulder. "And we were able to put the cast on, it was a clean break, should heal just fine."

Daniel felt like someone had reached inside of him, grabbed both of his lungs and squeezed them tight. How could she say it wasn't such bad news when he had a brain tumour and they hadn't been able to remove all of it? That sounded like bad news. That sounded like really bad news.

He nodded dumbly, Tony's hand on his shoulder grounding him from going into full panic mode. "What are his chances of a full recovery? I mean, what are we looking at here? Say it can't be removed, will he still be able to lead a normal life?"

"No, he will only have a matter of time before it kills him." She replied, a second before Tony unleashed on her. "Do you think this is funny? Come out here and give this man who is Thor's fiance news like that?!"

A breath, and he kept going. "You go, and you bring us another nurse who has some sense of bedside manner. And tell that nurse that he or she is taking Daniel to see Thor immediately."

Holy shit. Daniel sincerely hoped he was never on the receiving end of Tony's ire. It was kind of hot just how easily Tony could command an audience. Daniel wished he had that kind of confidence and power.

The nurse scurried away. And Daniel deflated. "Fuck. What if the chemo doesn't work?"

Pulling him into a hug, Tony said, "My baby brother is going to be fine. You have to look at this one step at a time, hon. If you don't, you're going to go insane." Tony even wondered how Thor's body wasn't healing itself. He was the God of Thunder, after all. None of this made any sense.

Squeezing him tightly, Tony said, "For right now, just think about seeing him. Even if he isn't awake from the anesthesia yet, it doesn't matter. You'll be in the room with him, and you'll know that he's okay for the moment."

Daniel once more let Tony's embrace ground him. He took a breath and nodded. Baby steps. He could do this. He just had to take it slow and small. "Thank you," he said. He would be eternally grateful that Tony had been here with him, otherwise he would probably have let despair and fear win.

Another nurse approached. "Mr LaRusso? Would you like to follow me? I'll take you to see your fiance now. Mr Stark? Would you like to come too?"

"Only if Daniel wants me to. I can let him see him alone first." Tony replied, his voice a little wobbly. He didn't know if he could see Thor laying there on the hospital bed, tubes and wires helping him breathe. "I need... I need a minute, anyway." Tony managed to say.

His advice was completely the right thing to do, but it was harder when you were the one who had to do it.

Daniel patted Tony on the shoulder, giving him a nod. He got it. Hospitals sucked. Seeing the people you loved hooked up to machines was hard. "I'll see you in there in a bit?"

He followed the nurse. He knew it would be bad and he tried to ready himself for it. But the sight of Thor looking so weak and sick, hooked up to tubes and wires still knocked the wind out of his sails.

Daniel made his way over to the bed and reached to take hold of Thor's hand. "Talk to him," the nurse said, as she checked Thor's vitals. "He'll be able to hear you."

Swallowing hard, Daniel stroked his thumb over the back of Thor's hand. "Hey baby. You gave us one hell of a scare, you know? I should make you sleep on the couch for that." Mostly, he was rambling, trying to fill the empty space and drown out the beeping of the machines.

Thor's breathing was even, and he did look a little frail. The nurse moved about, checking his vitals. All through this, Thor didn't wake. He wanted to. He could hear Daniel's voice through the fog.

"Daniel." He tried, willing his eyes to open. He had heard the nurses and doctors talking while they'd been doing surgery, even though he shouldn't have been able to. Thor hoped that Daniel wasn't here alone. Then he heard Tony's voice. He was telling the nurse to bring Daniel something to eat. He smiled. Tony was always trying to make sure he took care of his family.

His blue eyes opened slowly, and he tried to adjust to the lights. "Baby?" He asked, feeling Daniel's fingers in his. He squeezed lightly, he was still working on summoning his strength. "Hey, little brother." Tony's voice was weak, and Thor knew it was from being here, and seeing him like this.

"Hey, big brother." Thor managed, and the nurse held the water with the straw in it so he could get a drink.

"Hey beautiful," Daniel said, voice quivering. He really thought he had lost Thor. He had been so scared. And they weren't out of the woods yet. But Thor was awake and talking, that had to be a positive sign, right?

Daniel would cling to whatever slither of hope he could get.

He sniffed, fighting back tears.

Smiling softly, Thor reached out to brush his hand across Daniel's cheek. "It's okay, baby. I'm gonna be okay." Thor told him, his words muddled. He was still high from the drugs. His grip tightened on Daniel's, and he looked up at Tony.

"Thanks for being here for my baby." Thor told him, and Tony's brown eyes misted, and he sniffled. He leaned down to kiss Thor's cheek, and then he hugged him tightly. Thor hugged him back with one arm, and wondered how his leg was broken. And in a cast.

"What did I do to my leg?" Thor asked curiously, missing the look Tony gave Daniel.

Daniel's brow furrowed and he gave Tony a worried look, before looking back down at Thor, stroking his cheek tenderly. "You tripped on the toys on the stairs at home. You don't remember?"

He hoped it was just the drugs making his head fuzzy and not something related to the tumour, but Daniel's mind was already picturing up every worst-case scenario.
