Minor Injury Meme

A meme for those minor injuries that won't leave you down but make it hard to live your life. The breaks, sprains, and the hurt/comfort that comes with them.

INJURIES

1. SPRAIN: you stepped the wrong way, twisted the wrong way, and something has gone terribly wrong. Just remember RICE - Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

2. FRACTURE: You step off the sidewalk, working in the backyard, and suddenly BAM!! But it's not a sprain, oh no, you're in a cast for the duration. Good luck trying to get to work.

3. PULLED: It's not bad enough for medical attention but it still hurts something fierce. Break out the tiger balm or someone to give you a hand because you've pulled something. That awkward moment when you think you want vicodin...and nobody will give it to you.

4. MIGRAINE: Light hurts, air hurts, moving hurts. All you can do is lie in a darkened room and pray for the pounding pain to go away behind your eyes.

5. THE FLU: Maybe you're physically fine – well… all your limbs are working. You just feel like death warmed over.

6. WILDCARD: Anything else you can think of.

SCENARIOS

1. INJURED! WHAT NEXT?: You're out working, you're out having fun, you're out doing something when suddenly you step, twist, move and our bodies demonstrate just how fragile they really are. Quick! someone call the ambulance!

2. THE EMERGENCY ROOM: All the fun of a waiting room with rewards that include crutches, casts, X-Rays, vicodin, and sometimes just that one nurse who says "Yeah there's nothing wrong with you that'll be 400 dollars."

3. HOME AND SETTING UP THE NEST: Hurt, trying to make a space for you to get around. Hopefully someone is there to help you get to your crutches so you can go to the bathroom and make yourself something to eat.

4. PHYSICAL THERAPY HOME EDITION: The obligatory smut option. Do you not see that I'm wearing this cast?

5. OH GOD HELP I'M GOING TO DIE: That awkward moment when the fact that you are bedridden is crushing down on you and you're terrified you'll do something to make the injury worse. Snappish, angry, and rude - who are you going to take it out on?

6. DRIVE ME TO THE DOCTOR THIS SHIT IS COMING OFF: It's time, they say you can come in, take it off, and begin the next stage of recovery. Failing that, you’re going to grab a saw and cut the damn thing off yourself! Will there be joy, laughter, crying, happiness?

7. WILDCARD: Anything else you can think of.

"Hey, no, Jersey, it's not your fault." Tony said, touching Daniel's arm. He gave everyone nicknames, it was his way of being affectionate. He thought Daniel was very good for Thor, and he knew that Thor was happy. "He loves you. And you thought your ma was deed. He knows that."

Tony tugged Daniel into a hug, squeezing him tightly. "Don't beat yourself up, okay? Please. That's not gonna help him now. What will help him is you being here, especially when he wakes up. Which he will." Tony stepped back, brown eyes meeting brown eyes.

He could definitely see what Thor saw in Daniel.

Daniel was pretty sure he had done a really shitty job at making Thor happy for the last 24 hours or so. He had been a complete jerk. He hadn't meant to be. But after seeing Louie's neck snapped like a chicken wing by the man who ruined his life when he was younger, followed by believing his Ma to be dead... it had just been too much. He had shut off from the world. Withdrawn inside himself and put up every wall he had in order to try and cope. He had frozen Thor out and he hated himself for it.

He let himself be pulled into the hug, melting into it. He gave a step back and nodded. "Okay."

Daniel may have always had a preference for blondes. But he knew an attractive guy when he saw one. And Tony definitely ticked a lot of the right boxes.

"I just... I feel so helpless. You know?"

"I do know. If it was Bruce, I'd be totally at a loss." He said, nodding. "Hey, did you get the hanky Bruce and I helped Morgan make for you? She knows bonsai trees are important to you, and she knows they remind you of your second dad, and she just wanted to make something for you that you could carry with you always that would remind you he's still there. I think Lukas gave her the idea."

Tony would bet money on it, that she had gotten the idea from Lukas. That kid was such a trouper, and he loved Daniel so much. "That kid loves you, by the way. He's always going on and on about you. None of us ever thought we'd see the kid happy again. You've done that for him."

"I did. It's beautiful. She was so excited to give it to me. It's wow... it's amazing, really. Thank you to you and Bruce for helping. I'll treasure it forever." He really would, too. It had touched his heart that Morgan had wanted to do something like that for him. She was such a great kid.

Daniel smiled. "Lukas is... he's amazing. Such a smart, loving and kind little boy. There is just so much compassion and heart in that tiny little body. And his powers are growing every single day. He can commune with spirits now, and heal. I have no idea how to help him control and rein in his powers, but he's so smart and so sweet." Daniel loved Lukas too. He had never expected to start a relationship with another single parent. Had never expected to welcome another child into his life so easily. But he wouldn't change it for the world.

Tony's eyes brushed with tears a bit. "He was with us for a weekend a few months ago, before Thor met you, and he told me that my mom could see me, and she's glad that Bruce and I are so happy together." He wiped his eyes. "I love that kid. He cares so much about others, and how they feel."

When Daniel mentioned Lukas' powers, Tony said, "What I do with him, is tell him to try and think of an empty room when he touches someone, and focus on that. It will help him from hearing others' thoughts. I mostly taught him that so he doesn't hear my thoughts, but it should help him learn." Tony told him, brushing a hand through his hair.

"He never shuts up about you. And he loves his room, he tells me about it every time we see him. And Morgan loves coming over to yours, too, she's been bugging us to get a pool like Uncle Daniel and Uncle Thor."

"He told me that Mr Miyagi was proud of me. I really needed to hear it too. I miss him terribly and sometimes I wonder if he would approve of the decisions I've made in life. To hear he's proud of me... it really helped me." Daniel wished Mr Miyagi could meet his new family. He knew the old man would adore Lukas. Everyone did. He was a sweetheart.

Daniel listened to Tony's advice and gave a nod. "An empty room? That's a great idea. I'll be sure to try that with him. There are a lot of thoughts in my head I would hate for him to hear. I try to empty them from my mind when I'm near him, but it's hard. And he does like to be in my arms. It's easy to forget to empty my mind when I pick him up."

He had thought his days of looking after young kids were behind him - at least until grandkids came along, but Lukas had changed all that and Daniel wouldn't have it any other way.

"Morgan is welcome any time. She can use the pool whenever she wants. It's pretty awesome pool if I do say so myself. When Ma and I were first moving out here, she went on and on about how amazing the pool at our apartment complex was going to be. When we arrived it was a shithole. Just a couple of inches of green, stagnant water in the bottom. Never did get to swim in it. First thing I did when I had money was look for a house with a decent pool."

A smile crossed Tony's face. "I remember the first time we babysat him for you guys and he told me that he was able to hear Mr. Miyagi and tell you what he said. He was SO happy that he was able to tell you that. He was bouncing and so hyper. If you haven't told him that, you should."

"I do, too. I try and get my mind empty too, but it can be hard. Especially when you remember that that kid can hear everything. One time I didn't have my mind cleared enough, and he asked me why Uncle Bruce liked to tie me to the bed." Tony covered his face as he blushed and laughed a little.

Then he nodded. "Mhm. Lukas loves you, never shuts up about you. When he's not bragging on Blondie, he's bragging on you. And I'm sure he's gonna be over the moon that your ma came around. He knew how sad that made you."

He smiled again when Daniel mentioned the pool. He laughed about the mention of the one when he was growing up. "I hate to brag, but I had one growing up myself. It was indoors, too. Hate to rub that in, Jersey." Tony said, as he finished his boba. "Actually, Bruce and I are heading out of town For a couple of weeks, I was hoping you guys could watch Morgan. Peter's mostly self sufficient, and I'm hoping if he doesn't have to keep her occupied he can finish his homework."

"I'll be sure to tell him." Daniel couldn't help but laugh softly as Tony told him about his slip-up with Lukas. He could just picture it. Lukas so innocently asking with those wide, questioning eyes. The mortified faces of Tony and Bruce. He shouldn't laugh. He knew a similar incident was bound to happen to him and Thor at some point.

"I love him too. He's a great kid. I thought I was all done raising my babies but it seems fate had other ideas." He was just so glad that Sam and Anthony had taken to him so easily and accepted him as part of the family.

Daniel took a sip of his boba. It felt wrong to be making plans when Thor's future was so uncertain. But he was sure between himself, Sam and Lucille they could take care of Morgan, no matter what the prognosis was for Thor. He nodded. "Of course. You know we would love to have her."

Tony touched Daniel's shoulder. "He's gonna be okay, Jersey. You've got to believe that." Tony said, squeezing it tightly. "And I appreciate you being able to watch Morgan. She loves hanging out with you guys. I'm happy that Thor found you, honestly. I have to admit, I was worried about the age difference at first. But he loves you, and you love him. I know he appreciates you. And that kid adores you."

He was quiet a moment. "Lukas didn't talk for a year or so after Loki died, and so when he started talking after he met you, we were all really happy. That overshadowed anything we were worried about. You opened your heart to that kid and Thor, and we were just overjoyed that they were both happy."

"Oh, and Sam and Anthony are good kids, too. I know Thor loves them just as much as you love Lukas."

Daniel nodded. "Yeah, I know..." Positive thinking. He could do that. But Thor had been in so much pain. He didn't even know gods could get migraines, let alone brain tumours. The fact that nothing had eased it apart from his massages worried him. Painkillers hadn't even touched it. Surely that wasn't good...

Positive thinking. He had to stay positive.

"Lukas talks more about Loki now than he used to, as well. That's good. There are so many thoughts and feelings swirling around that little mind that even adults would struggle with. He really is a wonderful child. He melted my heart from the moment I met him."

"Ours, too. You should have seen him as a newborn. If Blondie hasn't shown you pics, you gotta make him." Tony advised, leading them inside so they could go to a waiting room. "And he is. I'm not surprised, Blondie and Loki raised him well." He missed Loki too sometimes, which he had never expected. Tony brushed a hand through his hair, messing it up.

He was quiet a moment longer, and then he said, "Thor, he... he shouldn't be able to get this ill. I don't know what's going on anymore than you do, and it's scaring the fuck out of me." Tony said, taking a deep, rattling breath. He was fighting back tears. He didn't want to think of losing Thor.

"He has to be okay. He's like a baby brother to me." Tony said, covering his face as they walked, he was starting to lose his composure.

"Hey, hey, hey. Positive thinking, remember?" Daniel said as he pulled Tony into a hug. He wanted to be positive. He wanted to be upbeat and the voice of optimism, but it was hard when Thor had looked so ill and when one of the people who knew him best in the world was on the verge of tears with worry and fear.

"He'll be okay. He has to be. He has to try my Ma's chicken cacciatore. And he needs to make an honest man out of me. And needs to let me adopt Lukas. There's so much we still need to do. He can't just fuck off and abandon me."

"Oh wait. I was supposed to tell you." Tony said, once he'd felt composed enough to step back. He wiped his eyes. "Lukas is yours. I know some people downtown, and they got the adoption started. All you need to do is sign some forms." Tony told him, rubbing his scruffy chin.

He added, "And Thor's papers are all ready to adopt Sam and Anthony. You and Thor will get married, I've got no doubt. I'm just.... freaked the fuck out." He said, losing most of his bravado. Most people didn't see this version of him.

"I'm very glad for you with your ma coming around. I'm sorry it took that dude attacking her for it to happen, but I'm still glad for you."

"Wait... seriously? It's all sorted apart from some signatures? Holy shit. This is really happening." He was adopting Lukas. It would be official. Holy shit. Their little family had come together so suddenly, yet the pieces just fit.

Honestly, the first time Daniel spoke to Thor, arranged a date, he had expected a few casual hook-ups maybe before Thor lost interest. Yet it had been love from the onset.

"I can't believe how close to losing her I came. All because Terry Silver has some petty grudge against me. But she's alive. She's well. And she'll get to see Lukas grow up."

Fucking Silver. The deepest, darkest depths of Hell were waiting for him. One way or another.

"Hey. Deep breaths, okay? It'll help."

Tony nodded, working on his breathing. "Yeah, I wanted to help out. So I called and got the process started. It helps that I'm me, and you're you. They had of course heard of you, and were eager to help too. No bribes needed."

Letting out more breaths, he settled in a chair, and carefully tugged Daniel into the one beside him. He brushed a hand through his blonde hair, mussing it up. "I'm so so glad you were there. Otherwise, no one would have known until it was too late."

Tears had brushed his eyes then, and a few fell from his eyes.

"I just wish I had realised how serious it was sooner." They couldn't wind back time though. Getting caught up in the what-ifs wouldn't change the fact that Thor was unconscious and may or may not have a brain tumour.

Daniel let out a shaky sigh, fighting back his own tears and leaned over to tug Tony into a hug. The guy looked like he needed it every bit as much as Daniel did.

Tony hugged him back, he couldn't hold the tears back anymore. He cried, burying his head in Daniel's shoulder. "LaRusso?" Johnny Lawrence was standing there, holding a towel over a large bleeding part of his midsection.

"Aren't you seeing that young guy?" Johnny asked, he heard things from Miguel sometimes, since he was Sam's boyfriend. Johnny had resigned himself to never being with him, since he was with Thor. "I'd say I'm sorry about your cousin, but let's face it, I'm not."

Daniel jerked away from Tony when he heard Johnny's voice, head whipping around to look at him. "Holy shit, Johnny... what happened to you?"

He stared at the towel. Seriously? Johnny was stood talking to him while he was bleeding profusely into a towel?

"I'm dating Thor. Yeah. And he's not that young. He's a single dad. Just like me." He dismissed the comment about Louie. Not wanting to get into it. The sound of his neck snapping was still as clear as day in Daniel's memory.

"Please tell me you've at least checked in and someone is dealing with ... that."

"Under thirty is young, LaRusso. I mean, good for you, but still young." Johnny said, brushing his free hand through his messy blonde hair. He looked down at the towel almost absentmindedly. "Yeah, I checked in. They said they had to have insurance information. I said I don't have any, so they said they'd see me but I have to wait for the doctor who sees uninsured patients."

He shrugged a shoulder. "It's mostly stopped." He had ignored Daniel's question about what happened. Then there were things he'd have to say, and he didn't want to. So he didn't.

Eying him, Tony said, "It really doesn't look like it has, man. You look like you're waiting for Michael Myers to come and finish you off."

A lot of people had criticised the age gap between Daniel and Thor. But Daniel was sure if Thor had been a woman then people would be applauding him and clapping him on the back for bagging a younger woman. Double standards. It sucked. It wasn't like Thor was a child. He was a grown man.

"You don't have insurance?" Okay. That probably made sense. Johnny didn't seem to have a lot of disposable income and his apartment wasn't in the best shape or in the best neighbourhood.

"Shit, Johnny... let me pay. You need to be seen."

"No, no, LaRusso. I can't let you do that." Johnny said, shaking his head. "I do need to be seen, but I don't want to owe you anything." He said, and then scrutinized Daniel. "Wait, why are you here? You look okay, and so does your friend there."

Johnny hoped Sam was okay. But he didn't see Miguel, so that lent to the idea that she was. Then he looked at Tony. "Dude, Michael Myers wouldn't stand a chance against me. Unlike the hot babysitters, I know how to defend myself."

He did, and that's why he was bleeding. You hear the man you've always been in love with is pretty much married to a twenty-eight year old, you kind of want to get in some fights, see if maybe one of them will kill you.

Daniel shook his head. "Who said you'd owe me anything, Johnny? Jeez. I'm not keeping score here. You need medical attention. So please, just let me pay for it? Why do you have to be so stubborn all the time?!" He let out a frustrated huff.

"And I'm here because Thor was rushed in." He didn't really want to go into too much detail about the thing. Or rather, he was sure Johnny didn't really want to hear about it.

He let out a snort. "Right, because you aren't stubborn." He said, a moment before his knees weakened. Tony was up and over to him like a shot. It came from having a young kid. He easily caught Johnny, who looked like he was going to pass out.

"Sorry about your boy toy." Johnny said, struggling to keep from passing out. Tony almost dropped him. "Shut up, Rambo, Blondie and Jersey are family." Tony grabbed a wheelchair, helping Johnny into it. Then he barked at a passing nurse. "Hey. I'm Tony Stark. Unless you want me to sue this hospital and own it, take care of this man."

He pushed the wheelchair at them. "John Lawrence is his name. Go!" He said firmly, and the nurse immediately whisked Johnny off to a room.

If the people Daniel cared about could please stop getting murdered, maimed or otherwise injured, Daniel would greatly appreciate it. Thank you. He sat down once Johnny was whisked away to take some deep breaths to centre and ground himself.

"You didn't need to do that, Tony. But thanks. I know he can be an ass sometimes... most of the time. But he's a good guy at heart."

"It's okay. I have the money and he needed seen to. Plus, I know how much it means to you." He said, reaching out to take Daniel's hand, squeezing it. "You know he's in love with you, right?" He asked, he'd seen the look on Rambo's face when he was talking about what Daniel had done with Thor.

He wondered how that was going to turn out. He knew that Daniel wouldn't leave Thor, but it could still be dramatic.
