[Olive is 9 years old and dressed in black. She’s standing quietly next to two taller figures who’s faces can’t be seen, tears spilling slowly and cinematically down her cheek as she stares off at the casket in front of her. There’s a picture of her 4-year-old sister on top of the small-casket.]

[Olive is 15 and she’s wearing a skimpy outfit. She flashes a fake ID to a bouncer at the club and enters with a group of her friends. There’s a montage of her in different outfits on different nights, all dancing to the same song, and at the end of each night, she ends up in bed with another man.]

[Olive walks back home in the last outfit she wore to the club after her most recent one-night-stand through the front door of her mansion. Her parents aren’t home. She walks past the trophy displays of her winning 1st and 2nd place of various sport competitions and such. She walks into her room and starts doing homework and studying until sunrise when she goes to take a shower and get dressed for school.]

[James standing with his group of friends; the beautiful and talented group of boys that made up the popular kids. Olive walks with her own gorgeous group of friends past them, but today was different. James Carson was looking at Olive and the girls all giggled and swooned as Olive walked up to talk to him.]

[Later that same day, Olive and James are walking out of the school together holding hands. She jumps into the passenger side of his convertible and they drive off. The next few nights, Olive’s not at the club, she’s on her bed texting James… But just the same, every night she ends up looking out of her window to see him in her driveway, and they go off together, hooking up in various places around the town.]

[Olive is 21. She’s at a gigantic fancy party and she’s obviously trying very hard to stay composed. James begins to make a toast at the top of the staircase to his future wife . Amelia Thomas makes her way down the stairs and takes his hand. He places an engagement ring on her finger, and the whole room claps.]

[Later that night, Olive and James are arguing in front of the fountain.]
I can’t do this, James. I can’t do this anymore. [Tears spill out of her eyes,] I can’t be with you. I can’t-- I can’t be your mistress, you’re engaged.
Olive, I need you.
You don’t, don’t- you don’t need me. [She shakes her head, she wants to run, but there’s nowhere to go where she wouldn’t be making a scene.]
I do. [He takes her hands in his and places them over his heart,] I can’t do this without you. None of this was my choice. You are the one that I love. [She tries to move her hands, but he keeps them in place,] I love you, Olive Woodcrest.
[She opens her eyes and looks up at him, she smiles through her tears,] Did you just say that you love me? [She chokes out.]
I did, [he says sincerely, his own smile starts up,] and I mean it. [He leans in to kiss her, and even though she knows she shouldn’t, she leans in to his embrace.]

[Olive and James are cuddling and watching the sunrise on the California skyline.]
We should go. Leave all of this behind. Just you and I. Forget betrothals, forget all of this. We could make it. We don’t need money. We just need each other, and we’ll make it. [She says; her tone is more pleading than she intended, but she feels like she’s losing him. He’s her best friend and he’s all that matters.]
Olive… [He starts, shaking his head,] We can’t do that.
James, we can. We’ll be free of all this—nobody to tell us no, or where to go or what to do? We can take our lives back. [She whispers, into his chest. She knows it’s too good to be true.]
No. [He says, not even pretending to entertain the idea.] Don’t ask me to do that. This wasn’t my choice, okay? Don’t pretend that it is. [He’s not usually this stern, but he’s obviously worked up. She wraps her arms around him, wishing to herself that she could stay here with him forever.]
~Cut to~
[Olive stands in front of the cathedral where Amelia and James are to be wed. It’s gigantic and beautiful; everyone around her is bursting with joy. She’s escorted to Amelia’s side of the church. She sends James one last text before the ceremony begins.] I can’t do this anymore. I wish you both the best.
[She stands stoically as she watches the ceremony, joining in the prayers and clapping on cue.]
