The Joker has used Superman's own sense of honor against him, causing the death of Lois and Superman's unborn son. In turn Superman has given up chances for a true utopia and he has taken over the world. With certain superheroes lured over to his side they have created a dictatorship in Gotham that has extended into the world beyond. The only remaining hope for true justice and freedom lies with Batman and his Insurgents. He has been forced to pair up with some unlikely people, some of them are even old foes. With Superman's control expanded the Insurgents become very desperate and attempt to bring several of their heroes from an alternate reality where the Joker's plan had failed, but something went horribly wrong. Instead a portal was opened to another alternate universe with it's own heroes and villains. It seems both sides now have the potential for new soldiers. Which side will you choose? Will you choose Freedom? Or will you march in Superman's Regime?
