September 1, 1976 - Hogwarts Express
Who: Everyone who is at all inclined
When: September 1st, 1976
Where: Platform 9 3/4, the Train
Rating: Hopefully no higher than PG-13 unless it's for swears
Status: Closed, completed
Summary: Some completed, see below.
Tree III:
Melissandre Flint, Peter Pettigrew
In an attempt to figure out how to best spy and recruit, Melissandre settles down on a bench where she can watch people coming through the barrier. She encounters Peter Pettigrew, whose trunk is open and papers are flying all about. She points this out to him, and they briefly engage in small talk and introductions before Meli 'chases' him off by pointing out James and Sirius are probably waiting for him on the train.
Tree IV:
Gilderoy Lockhart, Kingsley Shacklebolt
Gil is depressed at being stuck in black robes again - though Kingsley is quick to point out he can wear the colorful ones on Hogsmeade trips. In the spirit of pretending he's actually interesting, Gilderoy spins a few tall tales about his summer mountain climbing in Tibet. He does manage a (mostly) honest retelling of his encounter with Lucius in Flourish and Blotts, and Kingsley jokes that Lucius was probably confounded by Gil's colorful robes and that's why Gil was mistaken for an employee.
Tree VI:
Mary, Xenophilius
Mary gets herself settled into a compartment and is slipping out into the hall to see who else is around when she bumps into Xeno, who had his head in a book. After initial apologies, Mary heads off to wash her hands, and tells Xeno he can head into her compartment and they can hang out, if he wants. He does, and the two converse in idle chitchat about the cleanliness of the windows, what they did over the summer, and Quidditch - which Xeno doesn't understand. Mary says she'll sit with him at a game sometimes to help explain it to him. Then, the two commence a game of chess to pass the time.
Tree VII:
Cait, Severus, Regulus
Severus is trying to avoid everyone on the train when he is joined by Caitlyn who is secretly hoping to find Regulus. After a brief and uncomfortable conversation, Cait somehow convinces Severus to try and teach her some of the Dark Magic he knows in exchange for a new Arithmancy book and for her being something of a guinea pig by trying them out. Eventually Regulus joins them and there is yet another brief, uncomfortable exchange, and then they all decide reading is a better option than talking.
Isaac stepped slowly through the crowd, just behind a Muggleborn he'd helped through the barrier. It was always so tricky for the first years. He watched as the child gazed around with wide-eyed awe, and he wondered if he'd ever been so young.
But his first year seemed ages ago.
While he wanted to stay with the boy, to continue to help him, he knew there'd be enough kindly witches and wizards and even older students to help him out. He had things to do himself - like find Bastian, and then the other prefects to make sure they hadn't forgotten about the meeting.
Spying a dark red braid, Isaac grinned as he swept up behind Evans, wrapping an arm around her middle.
Lily shrieked a little, jumping before she turned to swat at his shoulder. "Don't do that!" she exclaimed with a laugh before she embraced the older boy. "You're such a brat."
He laughed as he eased away from her. "Have you seen Bastian yet?"
"Not yet," she admitted. "I've been too busy keeping an eye on people I'm trying to dodge."
He nodded. "The offer for a seat still stands," he promised her solemnly.
"But Isaac, if I sat with you, people would talk," she murmured, mock teasing. "I thought I'd find Fabian and Gideon. They're usually good for a laugh." And they'd hopefully help keep Potter away from her - and Sev wouldn't come any closer to them than he had to. So she reasoned she could delay any sort of uncomfortable awkwardness for at least the duration of the train ride.
"Would they? What would they say? That someone had finally pinned down the elusive Evans?" He grinned, but the teasing and flirting was all in fun. If he had any feelings toward Lily, they were protective big brother sorts of feelings.
She flushed a little, shaking her head. "I'm hardly elusive. I'm right here, aren't I?"
He grinned, but over her head he spied someone he needed to talk to. "I'll see you on the train then?"
"You will," she promised before she waved, watching him start off.
Without him as a shield though, she really was eager to find Gideon and Fabian, and setle into their crowd. Maybe she'd blend in and those she was dodging wouldn't even notice her here.
