When: Mid-morning
Where: Where the previous night's attack happened & beyond
It was surprisingly easy to find where Chase, Ivy, and Scotty had been caught the night before. There was a lot of forest, and any number of ways to get to the dots on the GPS that were probably their still missing companions, but once the group had come across one of Chase's strips of fabric tied around a tree, it was agreed upon to follow those as far as they went, and continue on from there. The further they went, the longer they walked, the more light they got, but it was still hard to relax, even when there wasn't any sign of something hiding in the brush. If there were monsters then they were out there somewhere, after all, and the group hadn't learned all the rules yet. Would they really just come out at night? What was it that could pick up two grown people and throw a third to the ground as easily as they had made it sound? Was it just the two, or were there more? Were they even really monsters, or some hallucination that TPTB had cooked up and triggered?
Roughly an hour had gone by when the group arrived at the last strip of cloth that Chase had been able to tie, where Chase's hammer and Ivy's phone and walking stick still remained on the ground. Nearby the ground was scorched, presumably from the fire that Scotty had mentioned had hurt the thing, but otherwise it seemed like any other patch of forest.
Edwin tucked Ivy's phone into one of the pockets of his bag, glancing up to make sure that someone had done the same with the other items before standing up. His hand rested on the hilt of his sword, which he had of course brought along, though it was an unconscious motion. Despite there being no sign of monsters, just knowing that this was where people had disappeared from made stalling here feel weird, though he had no idea if anyone else felt the same. Maybe he'd message Oliver while they were still for a moment. That'd make things better.
"They got pretty far," he said absently, turning to look back as he did. "At least a few miles, right? I... I wonder if that has anything to do with it." He didn't think he needed to explain that he was referring to the attack. "If it's not just the dark thing, I mean."
