thirty-six.
[Since their return from North Carolina, Riley had been behaving differently. She seemed overly concerned with her grades and her job, while still making an effort to be a good friend and girlfriend, so while it wasn't necessarily a bad kind of differently, for those who could read her well-enough it was becoming clear that at least from her perspective something had changed between her and Jon during the trip. It wasn't anything she felt comfortable discussing as of yet.
If she had to pinpoint exactly what had triggered the changes, she'd place the blame squarely on a conversation she'd had with Jon's moms her last morning there. It was during one of the rare times when they'd managed to catch her alone, and their casual chatter turned to her relationship with their son. After cycling through the usual parental concerns about her being older than Jon, his mom Anita decided to get serious with the questions -- 'where do you see the relationship going?' and the even more awkward query of 'do you love him?' It had taken Riley a few moments to be able to answer, but when she could it was in the affirmative, and followed up by an assertion that she was pretty sure he didn't know. Not exactly the best thing to say to his parents, but Riley was too honest for her own good sometimes.
The conversation had gotten to her, more than she wanted to admit. It had her taking stock of her life and looking more seriously at her future. The revelation that James had gotten Marilyn pregnant wasn't helping things either, not that she wanted babies and all that bullshit -- at least, not that she would admit openly. No, what she wanted was a legitimate adult relationship, but she wasn't sure Jon felt the same and wouldn't want to push that on him. She was conflicted, torn over growing up and wanting to stay at the semi-mature balance she'd carefully cultivated, and the more it weighed on her mind the more she could sense that she needed to act out before it all consumed her. If only all her ideas weren't things that would probably ruin everything she was starting to think was important.]
I've been promoted to shift supervisor at the Sports Complex, and as part of my change in job status I'll be running some self-defense classes. If anyone wants to sign up, or volunteer to help with teaching, let me know.

To anyone in MMA or anyone else interested in learning, I've decided to start holding training sessions to help people start using certain moves that they seem to be ignoring. We'll be starting with elbow strikes. Meet at the Sports Complex Wednesday afternoon at 4:30pm if you want in.
