I'd like to turn to a type of song that people like myself find ourselves subjected to with increasing frequency as time goes on, and that is the college alma mater. You'll find yourself at a reunion of grads, and old undergrads, and eh... somebody will start croaking out one of these things and everyone will gradually join in -- each in his own key, of course -- until the place is just soggy with nostalgia. Well, a typical such song might be called Bright College Days, and might go like this. Bright college days, O carefree days that fly, To thee we sing with our glasses raised on high. Let's drink a toast as each of us recalls Ivy-covered professors in ivy-covered halls. Turn on the spigot, pour the beer and swig it, and gaudeamus igit-ur. Here's to parties we tossed, To the games that we lost, We shall claim that we won them some day. To the girls young and sweet, To the spacious back seat of our beat up Chevrolet.

It's only just occurred to me that I said nothing about the new year, which is strange. Ah, I'll summarize it all in a quote:

May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful, and don't forget to make some art -- write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.

I do believe that this needs to be said, mainly so that I will not have to fear rounding corners, or walking near a commons area that happens to have seating: New Years is over, the mistletoe is away, so please do stop with the PDA that is far too over the top.

I should not see anyone's tongues flapping about other than in conversation, please. And no - kissing, tongue tangling, licking, suckling or any of that sort of thing is Not conversation intended for public. Don't get me wrong a little here and there is fine. When I walk around a corner to find soft core porn on the couch in the law building foyer...just no. Don't do it. I could only utter one thing and it was a sound of complete disgust.

I plan on taking a rather thick ruler around with me everywhere I go. If I see this, be forewarned you'll wish for nuns. idiots shouldn't procreate anyway
