These decorated Pumpkins I keep seeing around, is there a tradition behind it other than the fact they grow this time of year?

Pretty sure BD-1 is never going to get his fill of finding new designs.

So you find the foundations of the Jedi Order and our understanding of Force and I've come across a familiar Poncho. Not the greatest contribution to our training, but hey, if you get cold, there's a Poncho.

This place is so strange. I'm guessing we don't when or how these portals open? It seems a lot of people left at once.

At least the Poncho is something that's familiar to you from home? That must be comforting for you. And as far as I am concerned, the sacred texts belong to both of us.

It is strange. I like the life that I have built for myself here, but there is still so much I don't understand, how the portals work being one of them.

Yeah, you've got a point. It does remind me of something important back home. It's nice to have that. Thanks again, I'll be devoting some time to study. I still wouldn't mind working with you and your friend Poe.

I don't know you how you'd begin when it comes to the portals - so far they don't seem to give off any particular kind of energy ..at least not one that's familiar. I'm sorry you lost someone through them.

The knowledge was meant to be shared. I've never gotten a lot of time to study them myself, on my own, so it'll be nice having someone to study them with me. And you are certainly welcome to work with Poe and I whenever you like.

I wouldn't mind studying them more myself, as the energy that they give off is not like anything I've felt before. But at the same time, there is still much about the science of this world that I don't quite understand just yet.

The pumpkins with faces are decorations associated with Halloween, which is a holiday at the end of this month when children disguise themselves as monsters, heroes, or brightly colored television characters and roam the streets at night, extorting sugar from adults through unspecified threats of damage to their property. It is not permitted to retaliate against the children for these threats, because they are children and this protection racket is traditional. Also, adults attend parties, at which they may disguise themselves in one of two fashions: scary or sexy. It's sometimes difficult to tell the difference. Last year, my teammates disguised me as a pirate, which I believe is both sexy and scary.

Right, a holiday. Never, really celebrated those.

That's pretty thorough though, an interesting lot of traditions that, really ..don't seem so connected to the season, or the pumpkins. A bunch of kids threatening property damage for sweet food?

I've heard of pirates, not sure the ones in my galaxy aim to be sexy, so much as lawless thieves. Scoundrels. That sort of thing.

Earth has many holidays! You should celebrate them while you're here. The various traditions confused and angered me when I first arrived on Earth, but my friends helped me learn to enjoy many of them. My favorite is Día de los Muertos, a holiday to honor and remember those who have died. It is very colorful and the food is excellent.

On my homeworld, too, pirates were not viewed as sexy. Those who were caught pirating media were often executed on special programming to warn the others. Perhaps your world is more similar to mine than it is to this Earth.

It is a tradition meant to be enjoyed by all skill levels. I picked up some extra pumpkins at the patch that have yet to be carved, if you want one.

A cat? I'm sure I could carve Pumpkin, but I'm not sure I could do anything that artistic.

The Halloween decorations? It's a holiday celebrated this time of year. They put pumpkins up everywhere, and children beg for candy.

There's a lot of seasonal holidays back home, more than I'll probably ever know about. Never really celebrated any of them.

Not sure about the begging- extortion candy thing though, or the costumes. You going to carve one of the pumpkins?

He's a droid. It's common for people where I'm from to work closely with droids, they can repair, navigate, translate, all sorts of things. BD-1's with me, but he's more a friend than anything else.

He likes to record and store information, so anything new gets him pretty enthusiastic.

Here he is-

I learned that Jack-o-Lanterns are based on an Irish myth called "Stingy Jack"... but I don't remember a whole lot about them. They were turnips or something before the "old world" met the "new world" and pumpkins were introduced.

Turnips, huh? It's kinda fascinating where traditions and stuff like that come from, and that they survive in some form or another.

Did you carve a pumpkin?

There's a whole pumpkin theme around this time of year. They're in season, so historically they're eaten during a lot of the fall/winter holidays.

Have you tried anything with pumpkin spice?

It's a symbol more than anything: when you put a pumpkin on something it becomes instantly recognizable as a fall/Halloween/Thanksgiving thing.

Yeah, it makes sense, it's a nice symbol.

It's nice, they look good lit up in the evenings. I've heard a lot about Halloween so far, not so much about Thanksgiving.
