Day Four
Who: Ace & Rose.
When: Afternoon
What: The companions meet.
Where: the TARDIS
Rating: G
Status: Complete

Ace sat at the edges of the resort, crouching down to let the desert sand run through her fingers as she gazed out into the distance. It seemed that there was nothing outside the ranch area, just miles of sand as far as she could see. She supposed that there still might be more, and she'd survived deserts before, but there was still plenty here to explore before venturing out that way. So the brunette rose and swung a leg over her bike, the motorcycle quickly revving to life, and shooting back off back the other way.

It was her second day here, but the previous afternoon had been a waste -- forced onto some rafting trip by 'The Planet.' It had been enjoyable enough, she'd met a few characters, but really got little in the way of answers except that everyone seemed to be brought here against their will from different times and places. After which she'd been more then keen on getting home, but not only could her bike not travel between planets, but being dragged here out of the vortex had fried a bunch of her circuits.

So this morning she'd rose at dawn (old habits), grabbed a quick breakfast, and set off to take stock of her surroundings. Equipped with her rucksack of toys and other such items always on her person, she'd rode north of the resort until hitting the desert.

She'd been at this for some time, and was nearly done covering the grounds until something caught her eye. A big, blue, wooden something. A wide grin pulled at her features, and she kicked the speed up a notch until she was parked right next to phone box. A hand rose quickly, gripping the small key hanging round her neck as she moved to the doors, pushing it into the lock and letting the doors swing open.

Ace stepped inside, her brows furrowing at the sight of the place. "He's changed the theme." She grumbled disapprovingly before continuing forward. "Hello old girl." Ace greeted, running a hand lightly over the console. Sitting down, she pulled the screen towards her, wondering how long it had been for the Doctor since they'd last met. It had been little more then a year for her, or at least, that's what she figured. It was hard to keep track when traveling through time.

"The professor has been busy hasn't he?" She would find him later. While she was here she might as well fix her bike, maybe give it a bit of a boost. A few keystrokes, pulling a few cords from beneath a floor panel outside to fasten to the motorcycle, and then returning to start the diagnostic. While the TARDIS found out the extent of the trouble and fixed what it could, she set down her pack and decided to have a look around.

Rose woke up late that morning with a really bad hangover. She was- well, surprised when she found the Doctor beside her, but then she felt the pounding in her head and she groaned, rolling over. And then he'd woken up all bright and cheerful and it was all she could do to not bash her head against the wall. She'd taken some ibuprofen and drank a lot of water and it was another couple of hours before she felt human enough to go do anything.

There weren't any notes for any activities, so Rose decided that she'd go for a walk. And while she was out, she found herself nearing the TARDIS. Well, it was their home, and they hadn't been there in a while. Besides, she had a few things that she wanted to pick up. She was sure that the planet would provide it for her if she wanted, but she wanted her own things from home. Her real home.

But the door to the TARDIS was open as she approached it, and she frowned. What on earth? "Hello?" she called out, cautiously approaching the blue box. "Who's in here?"

Ace glance up at hearing someone call out, and for a moment she figured it was probably just the Doctor. The sound of another woman shot that theory though, and she rounded the corner, brown eyes fixing on Rose. It was her fault for leaving the door open, but she couldn't close it on the cords hooked to her motorbike. "Scram goldilocks. You shouldn't be in here."

She was cute, young, and didn't seem too surprised that the inside was so big. A new companion? Chris had left the Doctor last time they met, and she knew he was rarely without someone to travel with him. Still, she couldn't be sure, and if the girl wasn't with the Doctor, then Ace wanted her out of the TARDIS.

Who the hell was this? Rose drew herself up to her full height, lifting an eyebrow as she looked at the other woman. "I think it's the other way around. What are you doing here?" She looked down at the cables winding their way out the door. "And don't call me goldilocks."

Frowning, she looked back to the other woman. "Who are you?"

"You traveling with him then?" She asked, not about to tell a complete stranger what she was doing until she was sure of a few things herself. Ace did smirk a bit though as the other girl straightened up, scowling at her. Trying to be intimidating maybe? She didn't look all that threatening.

"Ace." The brunette offered, names couldn't hurt. "What should I call you, goldilocks?" The nickname thrown in just to annoy the stranger, before glancing over at the screen once more -- the diagnostic on her bike was nearly done, but she couldn't start working on it with this one hanging about.

Rose folded her arms across her chest. "Rose." What on earth? "Do you know him? You're not that girl he met- no. You don't look like a cave woman." She frowned, stepping inside and moving around the console to see what the other woman was doing. "How did you get in?"

She chuckled slightly at the mention of cave women, trying to imagine the professor in the stone age. Standing in his pullover, beating away cavemen with his umbrella -- he'd probably be fascinated with them, painting cave drawings.

"I used to travel with him." Ace said, lifting the thin chain around her neck to show Rose her TARDIS key as she sat down, hitting a few keys to stop the diagnostic, and looking at the extent of the damage -- all of which she was sure could be fixed easily enough now that the TARDIS was here.

Oh. Rose's hand came up, fingers wrapping around her own copy of the TARDIS key. "How long ago?"

God. Another Sarah Jane. Would she ever be rid of them? Probably not. She knew the Doctor had a past. She knew that he travelled with others before, but she had never really expected to keep running into so many of them.

Ace let the key fall beneath her shirt and out of sight once more. "No idea. A year, maybe a bit more, for me. Could've been ages for him." She answered. Ace had traveled with him for about seven years give or take, but that had been lifetimes ago for the Doctor -- Three lifetimes actually, but the brunette had yet to be informed of this. For all she knew this Rose could still be traveling with her Doctor.

She looked Rose over, wondering how long she'd been doing this. "When'd you meet him?" Ace asked as she crouched down to dig through her rucksack, pulling out a number of things (mostly weapons) before retrieving a small case of basic tools, and going back outside. She expected that the younger woman would follow while she sat on the bike and popped open the top of what should have been the fuel tank which instead held a number of wires.

Knowing now that the girl was the Doctor's new companion made her interested. Ace had always been protective of the Time Lord, and wanted to know that Rose could watch his back.

"About a year," Rose replied. "Well. A little more." She frowned again, tilting her head as she watched the other woman. She moved over, leaning against the door frame of the TARDIS as she watched her move to the bike. "How long did you two travel together?"

"Seven years or so. Left for about three years to fight in the war, then joined up with him again for a bit." She pulled out a small board, disconnecting a few wires and looking the burnt out bit of technology over curiously. Hopefully her lab in the TARDIS was still in tact. It had been ages since she'd used it...

Rose nodded, folding her arms across her chest. Seven years. That..was a long time. And again, the Doctor had never mentioned this woman. She gave a soft sigh, completely unsure of how to respond or what else to say.

She wasn't really surprised that apparently the professor hadn't mentioned her. He never really talked about his old companions, she only knew about a few because she'd met them. "How'd you meet then?" Ace asked, motioning for Rose to follow again as she strode back into the TARDIS, clearly knowing her way around.

Her lab was still open, clean as ever, with some of her things still lying around as if she'd been here only yesterday. "I met him looking for dragons in ice world."

"He saved me," she replied, following Ace back into the TARDIS and frowning as they entered a lab of some sort. Rose hadn't seen this one before. "There were autons in London, and they were chasing me through the store I was working at."

"You in love with him yet?" She asked, brow quirked slightly as she turned to look at Rose. Ace knew it was hard not to love the Time Lord, and that wasn't to say she didn't love him as well. He was like the white knight little girls dream of; sweeps in, saves your life, he's brilliant and amazing, shows you things you never could have imagined -- And Rose was young, been with him just a year. A year was nothing for a time lord, she still probably knew so little. Not that Ace presumed to know everything, but she'd had more experience.

"In love with him?" Rose lifted her own eyebrow. She didn't have to turn this into some confidential. She'd almost rather not say, either way, and she lifted a shoulder in a shrug. "He is brilliant."

She nodded and turned back to tinker with the fried bit of tech. "He still wear the goofy old pull over with all the question marks on it?" Ace grinned at the thought. He was brilliant, but had the strangest choice in clothing. Not to mention his panama hat and question marked umbrella. The more she thought about it, he had a lot of little quirks. The way he rolled his 'r's, and the ridiculous ability to actually talk their enemies to death.

"Question marks?" Rose asked, then shook her head. "No he hasn't worn a pullover in all of the time I've known him. There was a leather jacket, for a while, and lately it's been this pinstriped suit."

"Leather jacket." She repeated, surprised but pleased with the change. Even the pinstriped suit sounded nice. "Lucky you then. It was a naff old pullover." It was kind of curious though, she'd never known the Professor to change his style so drastically.

"Were you two dragged here as well? I was hoping I could get a lift back home. My bike can't do jumps between planets." She commented.

Rose couldn't help but laugh. "Yeah. It's pretty sharp. I like it." She lifted a shoulder in a shrug, idly wondering to herself how much she should tell this woman. "We were on our way to the mineral lakes, when we found ourself here. You know how the Doctor is- always an adventure with him. We thought it was like any other day, except...Well, we're stuck."

"Damn...Oh well, I'm sure he'll figure something out." She grumbled at hearing they were stuck. Ace figured that if anyone could figure out how to leave here it would be the Doctor, but she really hadn't wanted to stick around that long. "He sounds the same as ever. How has he been? I hear stories now and then -- Last I heard of him was his meeting with Madame de Pompadour, caught wind just as I was leaving France."

"We're working on it," Rose replied. She scrunched up her nose at the mention of Madame de Pompadour. "That was a while ago, actually. He was...quite infatuated with her, from what I could see. But he's been really good. Brilliant."

"Oh yeah? I spent a while in France, got a nice flat there. Was just leaving when I was pulled here.. I might've heard of something a bit more recent for you, but time travel kind of screws things up." She shrugged slightly.

"Good to hear he's okay, I was a little worried when Chris left him -- Needs someone to watch his back, you know?"

"Chris?" Rose couldn't help but ask, almost wincing as it slipped out. "Yeah, it seems like he's always getting into trouble of some sort. And there's only so much you can do." She grinned a bit, there. "So how did you find yourself here?"

"Another of our lot. I didn't meet him for very long. He decided not to leave Gallifrey with the rest of us." She replied casually. She didn't like the idea of the Professor traveling alone, so she was pleased with Rose, and the blond seemed a good companion. She understood about looking out for the Time Lord, at least. "Ripped out of the time vortex by the planet on my way to twentieth century London -- that's what fried so many of my circuits. Then I was sent right off to some rafting thing with a few others. Only got around to exploring the planet this morning."

Rose nodded, trying to keep this all straight. The names, though, only served as another stark reminder as to how she was only one in a line of companions, but she shook off those thoughts. She had known that, but even still- it didn't mean that she liked the reminder any better.

"I- so when are you from, originally? Er- and where?" She couldn't help but be curious. "It's...well, it seems nice, for a place that won't let us leave. There are worse places to be stuck, I guess, but...I don't know. We'd both rather leave if we could."

"Originally...Was born in 1970s Perivale, but a time storm sent me off to Ice World when I was fifteen. Met the doctor there a year later. You?" She replied, thinking how long it had been since she'd gone back to her home town.

"I suppose. Same here though, I'd like to leave sooner rather then later. It's not much of an adventure here."

"Born in 1980s London, met the Doctor at 18. He helped me out, and then invited me to travel with him. We've been together for...Two years? Or so?" She lifted a shoulder in a shrug. With all of the movement through space and time, it got a bit confusing.

"No. But it is a nice little break. I don't think it's somewhere I'd like to stay for too long."

"I get that. Hard to keep track of time with him." She made a face at the burnt bit of metal and circuits, shaking her hand as it had shocked her. Feh, she'd play with it later. They had plenty of time apparently.

"Not to into leisure planets myself. After traveling with the Doctor and bein' in the Space Fleet -- I don't like staying in one place too long if there's nothing to do. I'd rather be back fighting Daleks, much more exciting -- Oh, have you run into them yet?"

"Daleks? Oh yeah. They nearly killed us at one point, but we got away. Barely." She hoped that she never ran into any ever again.

"Would you like some help with anything?" Rose wasn't entirely sure why she offered, but she figured she might as well try to make herself useful, even if she wasn't sure just what the other woman was doing.

"Pain in the ass, those things. Fought 'em for years, and got a few tricks. Enough Nitro9 will blow up the weaker basic soldiers. They've left me with a few scars though." She grinned though at the thought. She'd learned a lot during the Dalek Wars, never had so much fun making better weapons, perfecting her nitro9...She still considered going back to the Space Fleet; lord knows they would have her, they still used weapons she'd made.

"Nah. I'll fool with it later. I want to check out my room. See if my hi-fi is still in it, and my old box of explosives.." Ace rose and stepped out into the hall, looking in either direction. She strode off and eventually caught sight of a door with a small wooden mask nailed over the door knob. "There we go..." The brunette pushed open the door, her room was exactly the same, even the same white walls and floor of the old TARDIS theme. Home..

"Yeah. We haven't really tried to blow them up." Well. Rose had basically turned them into dust, but she didn't really like to talk about that day very much. It still hurt to think about sometimes.

Rose followed Ace as she made her way back to her old room. Why hadn't she noticed this door before? Strange. Hrm. Rose leaned against the door frame as she watched Ace, then bit her lower lip. "Well, hey- I...think I'll leave you to this. I'm probably only just getting in your way."

"I'll blow up just about anything." She said casually, spotting her old box of explosives under the bed. Compared to the toys at her disposal now, they might as well be a box of sparklers.

Ace glanced back as Rose spoke again and nodded slightly. Not that she was getting in the way, but she wanted to walk around the TARDIS for a bit, and get back to working on her bike, which would be easier on her own. "Nice talkin' to you. See you later, yeah?" It wasn't really much of a question. It was almost inevitable that they would run into each other again, especially being both of them knew the Doctor.

Rose nodded. "I...yeah. I'll see you." She watched Ace for a moment before backing out and turning toward the way out. She wasn't really sure what to think or to say-- this whole meeting was more awkward than she really cared to admit.
