Day Thirty-One
Who: Shannon Rutherford and Sam Tyler
What: You heal my wounds and I'll heal yours...
When: Day 31 after dinner
Where: The bar
Rating: PG-13 for language
Status: Complete

Well, if Sam Tyler wasn't interested in a quick fuck to put their problems aside, Shannon could understand that, she supposed. In fact, she had a lot more respect for him, for it, if she was honest. The fact that he had a girlfriend back wherever he came from wasn't something she could've personally cared less about. She had Sayid, but Sayid wasn't here, so as far as Shannon was concerned, fair game. He had Annie and even though Annie wasn't here, he was committed. Admirable, if not a little annoying.

It seemed to Shannon that she and Sam had a bit in common - the fact that they had no friends here yet and the people they cared about were back home. Well. Maybe home for him; not for her. Home was a term she had learned to use very loosely, lately.

The idea of sitting at the bar with the golem in front of her was about as appealing now as it had been the other night with Greg, so she took her drink and, with a glare in the golem's general direction, she sashayed away and took a seat at one of the tables. She hadn't necessarily done it on purpose, but she'd chosen a different table, this time.

Sipping at her drink, she looked down at her watch - one she'd sorely missed the whole time she'd been on the Island and had asked the Planet to replace. She'd have to take it slow with this drink, considering the fact that all she'd been able to stomach for dinner was a passion fruit and an apple. God, she hoped that would let up soon... Nothing worse than having all she wanted at her fingertips and still not being able to stomach real food.

If Sam didn't show up soon, she'd call it a night; go back to her room, make use of the ballet bar again, and then cozy up on the damn floor because the stupid bed was still too soft compared to the sand to which she'd become accustomed. Hopefully, though, he would. Already, she'd unofficially adopted him as a friend and that was saying an awful lot about the guy, especially since she'd never met him in person. Part of her hoped he wasn't attractive, because if he was, that'd be all the more difficult for her to keep her cool and use him for what she wanted him for: an outlet for her emotions. Someone who sounded as broken as she did was perfect. No one would have to know that she was an emotional wreck except for Sam Tyler and she doubted he'd shout it from the rooftops, because he sounded like he was in pretty much the same boat.

So now, she just had to wait for him to show up. With another sip of her drink she crossed her legs and leaned back against her chair. He had until she finished the drink and she'd bail. Hopefully, he wouldn't disappoint.

Sam really had to learn to get out more. He never did, he always burried himself into his work and focused more on that than anything else in his life. Other than Annie of course, who told him when he needed a break and with much persuasion, would be the only one to be able to make him.

Heading towards the bar, he was gla only a few people thought of him as this Harold Saxon because it would make things far more difficult. It was hard enough being stuck here, but being thought of as this obviously awful man? It was going to be hard making friends.

Walking into the bar, he looked around for Shannon. Most of the tables were empty or had a few people sitting together, but one didn't. Walking over his hands in his pockets, he smiled at the woman.

"Shannon?"

Shannon looked up at the sound of her name and that small part of her that had been hoping for a busted up dude or a pretty boy deflated. Shit, he was attractive. She smiled back, but it was practiced and didn't reach her eyes. "Sam Tyler, I take it?" she asked. "Welcome to the Mirage Lonely Hearts Club's inaugural meeting," she joked and gestured for him to take a seat.

It didn't take a genius to notice that he hadn't gotten himself a drink and she wondered why. There could be a lot of reasons. Maybe he wasn't a drinker...maybe he was recovering alcoholic (although, if that was the case, she thought it a bit odd that he'd agree to meet her for a drink instead of, say, lunch or something). Or, maybe he just didn't want one, yet.

"How ya holdin' up so far?" she asked.

She couldn't remember when he was from and judging by his clothes was probably not a great idea, considering he could ask for whatever clothes he wanted and the Planet would provide. Did they have the internet where he was from? "So when did this place suck you up from?" she decided she might as well ask aloud, rather than stare at him and wonder silently.

She wasn't amazing with the internet or anything, because really, the internet was for two things: nerd gatherings and porn; but, if he came from an age with the internet, then so did his girlfriend and maybe he could at least shoot her an email to let her know that he was okay and trying to find his way home. It was a luxury she wouldn't have with Sayid and anyone who did have the internet back home was already missing her since she'd crashed. They thought her dead, by now, she figured; why tease the ones who gave a shit or disappoint the ones who didn't?

Sam nodded, laughing a little as he sat in the chair opposite her.

"Lonely Heart's Club? We shouldn't brag about that name I think."

He glanced at her drink before biting his lip and thinking he really should have ordered something first. He didn't want to just get up and leave the table.

"I'm doing alright, given the circumstances. I've been in worse situations. How about yourself?"

He could see her looking him up and down a little, but thought she must be just glancing at his clothes rather than his body. It felt weird, being in clothes that weren't completely 70's style, though he had kept his leather jacket. He'd grown fond of it when he was in 1973. However, he had gone with the more fashionable jeans and shirt combination.

"1973," he said with a smile. He'd wait a while to see how trusted she could be before mentioning the whole confusing thing he had with 2006. "And you?"

"Agreed," Shannon replied with a smirk, taking another drink. She noticed him looking at the glass and raised her eyebrows. "Just ask for one," she said. "They'll bring it over."

She wouldn't admit out loud that she was fairly miffed that he was gazing at the drink and not at her, but that wasn't what this whole little get together was about. Shannon pushed her hair out of her face and took another probably too-dainty sip. "I've been in way worse situations," Shannon agreed. "I'll live. It'll just take a little getting used to, ya know? Having to start all over...again."

Sam said that he was from 1973 and Shannon looked surprised. "Wow, really? That's like...eleven years before I'm even born," she replied. "I'm from 2004."

Shifting a little in her chair, Shannon got herself more comfortable and looked back at him. Quiet type, she thought maybe. A little shy, painfully oblivious. It was a good thing she'd decided to let him off the hook, or he'd be an awful lot of work to get in the sack, she thought. "I love that accent," she found herself commenting at the same time as she'd been thinking it. And his smile - he seemed to her like the proverbial nice guy. Not her type, really, now that she thought about it. But still...good company.

Sam frowned a little but nodded. He knew about the coffee being made to his specific tastes, so surely this would be possible. Asking for a scotch, he was soon given it, grinning a little. He hated being waited on hand and foot, but it had it's perks.

So she was from 2004? At least he had knowledge of that time. And he wouldn't shy away from it if she brought up subjects from that time. But trying to explain everything? Not exactly first meeting material. He had scared people away first time that happened, and Annie still laughed when he mentioned it.

"Thanks. I guess I don't tend to notice it," he said with a laugh, looking across at her over the rim of his glass as he took a sip.

Shannon laughed and without really trying flashed him a flirtatious grin. It was reflexive anymore, now, it seemed. "Yeah, I bet not," she replied. "But it's nice. I always thought European accents sounded so sophisticated and intelligent. You could say the dumbest thing and still sound like a scholar," she said.

She took a deep breath and had another sip of her cocktail. "So tell me about Annie?" she asked. Might as well get right down to it. The more she knew about Annie and the more he knew about Sayid, the better shoulders they would be for each other to cry on, she figured.

Sam noticed her grin, but didn't think much of it.

"I guess it can sound sophisticated. Depends what part of Europe you're from."

He had to admit, he'd never think that way about Gene. The way Gene spoke, he wouldn't think that often.

"Annie? Well...she worked with me, she was sort of the first person who I could really talk to. She...stopped me from doing something very stupid."

"Good point," Shannon agreed. "Cockneys don't really sound that sophisticated, I'll give you that. But, like I said, I spent a lot of time in St. Tropez; that accent is practically intoxicating it's so fluid."

Clearly he was missing the point, but she wasn't going to push the compliment. She'd have to spell it out for him to fucking follow, anyway, at this rate and she didn't have the patience or desire to bother. Nice guy, really, but...wow. Completely oblivious.

"They had female cops back in the 70s?" Shannon asked. "I didn't realize. That's pretty cool." She paused and tilted her head slightly, an ironic smile crossing her lips. "Go figure. Sayid stopped me doing something stupid, too. I was pissed," she added.

Interesting; they had more in common than she'd previously thought. Maybe he would make a good friend, if she decided to actually peel back some more layers. She'd already bared to him the fact that she really wasn't so bitchy and angry, but that was a big step for Shannon, so she wasn't sure just how much else she'd show him. She'd have to feel him out a bit and see if she could trust him not to go spouting off that she was a bit of a softy, emotional wreck on the inside, beneath the nasty facade she put forth to keep people at an arm's length.

"Well, not as high up as I allowed Annie to go. Which is really a disgrace. They'd be the one's in uniform, clearing up after us. I try not to use them just for that purpose, but I'm the only one in the station that seems to think that way."

Sam took another small sip of his scotch, a small smile on his face. He missed Annie, more than anything, but talking about her seemed to make it easier. Besides, getting out of his room where his thoughts generally weren't so happy helped.

Shannon raised an eyebrow at Sam. "I thought chivalry was dead in the 70s," she said slowly, looking at him over the glass as she finished off her cocktail and pushed the glass away, knowing that if she kept it too close, it'd refill itself. "Sounds to me like you're ahead of your time, buddy," she added with a smirk. "Good for you. Start the revolution."

With that said, she gave him a wink and found herself laughing a little. "It's good to meet someone who doesn't make my IQ feel like it's dropping, doesn't creep me out, and contrary to popular belief about me...it's kind of nice to be in the company of someone who isn't too busy staring at my tits to listen to what I'm saying," she admitted...quietly in case someone overheard. That wouldn't do.

"I guess I am a bit, yeah."

Oh she had no idea how ahead of his time he was. But until he knew her far more better, he wouldn't bring it up. After all, he didn't want to make her think he had lost it and make her run off.

"Sorry what was that?" he said with a laugh, pretending to draw his eyes away from her breasts to her eyes. "I'm joking, sorry. I guess I can understand that. My group of friends are quite close to Neanderthals."

"Oh, ha ha, you're hilarious," Shannon deadpanned, but she couldn't help the smirk of amusement that crossed her lips. She resisted the urge to give him a playful punch. That, other people could see if they were looking (and they usually were), so she decided it was better if she didn't.

Shannon shook her head as her smile faded back into a neutral expression. "Why do you hang out with them, then?" she asked.

"Because they're my team and I'm rarely away from work."

He never really was all that social, he kept himself to himself in 1973, more so than he did in 2006. So he'd spend his time in the station, or down the pub with that lot or at home.

"Enough about me."

"Ah," Shannon replied, inclining her chin in a half-nod of acknowledgment and understanding. "If I did that, my best friends would be a bunch of mini-ballerinas and a bratty French kid named Laurent," she joked.

Shannon didn't spend a lot of time socializing, per se. When she was home, she'd worked, gone to classes, and hung out with Nora, but that had been pretty much it. On the Island, she spent the majority of her time sunbathing in an effort to stay away from everyone. There had been that time when Claire had sat beside her and Shannon had tried to start a conversation with her just because she'd been there...but Shannon had made the apparent faux pas of asking about the baby and Claire had put an awkward discomfort into the potential discussion by saying she hadn't felt the baby move since they'd crashed. That had been the end of that.

"Fair enough, not big on sharing?" she asked, amused. "Me either, honestly, but...well, let's see. I think I mentioned that I crashed on an Island in the middle of fucking nowhere to you already...and that's been kind of the big thing. That and my brother," she sighed. Oh no, there it was. The proverbial elephant in the room Shannon kept trying to ignore. "My brother dying there," she finished the sentence with a cool sort of disinterest in her voice. She wasn't about to go all crybaby on him just yet, after all. They were still trying to feel one another out, she thought, from the sounds of their small talk.

"I don't mind sharing but I don't like boring people with the little in my life."

He listened to her talk, and when she mentioned her brother, he reached his hand out to cover hers.

"Sounds awful. I can't imagine going through that."

"Well..." Shannon said slowly, reaching out for the glass so it would refill itself after all, and then taking another sip of her drink. "I've met Charlie Pace, so...I think you'd have to try really hard to bore me," she finished with a smirk. It was funny to her, anyway. Charlie Pace and his stupid band were pretty far ahead of Sam's time.

She blinked when he reached out to put his hand on hers and pulled her hand away reflexively. She wasn't used to sincerity and she definitely wasn't used to men touching her without expecting her to...touch them back. It wasn't like she minded, but the game was old. She'd prefer it if they just said what they wanted so she could get down to business, especially if it meant she'd get some sort of benefit from it. But Sam's gentle gesture was new and not entirely welcome.

"Sorry...I..." Shannon shook her head and looked down, wringing her hands in her lap. "Not used to that," she explained lamely. "It sucked but...whatever, you know? Shit happens. Life sucks...and then ya die. Boone's life must've just hit it's ultimate suck factor or something."

It was easier for Shannon to be evasive. She took a deep breath and put her hand back on the table, over Sam's. There. She was making an effort even if it wasn't the most comfortable thing in the world. "So what about you, DI?" she asked. "Tell me about you."

She moved her hand away again because, well, it was fucking awkward.

Sam laughed as she spoke of someone he guessed she knew, watching a little as the glass was refilled.

"That's strange," he said, nodding at the glass.

He could feel her unease at his form of comfort. She pulled her hand away, before placing it back. He smiled a little at her question.

"Oh not much to tell about me."

Her hand was pulled away again, but he wasn't offended. Ater all, he was virtually a stranger and some people didn't take comfort well.

"Hmm? Oh," Shannon said as she realized he was talking about the way the glass had refilled itself. "Yeah, I learned that little trick last night while having a drink with Dr. House," she replied. "Keep it close enough to you and it'll refill itself," she added.

He said there wasn't much to tell about him and Shannon raised an eyebrow. Maybe she was mistaking his quiet nature for something more intentional. Perhaps he was better at evading than Shannon herself.

"If you say so," she replied with a shrug, taking a long, dainty sip from the glass. If he wasn't going to talk about himself, she sure as hell wasn't going to talk more about herself. Besides the point of dominating the conversation being more rude than Shannon actually was, Shannon lived under the 'you show me yours, I'll show you mine,' philosophy. If he wasn't showing...neither was she.

"That's actually pretty good. Saves having to get up a lot. Not that I'm lazy but when you get a bit of drink in you well...walking over to the bar is the last thing you want to do."

Sam grinned a little as she sat back, watching her. He was very good at body language, his time in the force helping towards that.

"Am I boring you?"

Nodding, Shannon laughed. "Yes, well, I'm going to have to completely agree with you on that one. No way would I prefer to stumble over to the bar when I'm smashed if all I have to do is keep the glass close and think that I want more," she replied.

His eyes were on her and for a moment, she finally felt like they were getting somewhere. ...then she remembered how socially retarded this guy seemed to be and figured that since he was a cop, maybe he was trying to read her mind via body language or something. That was something cops were sort of trained for, right? Maybe not. Whatever.

"Well, no, how can you bore me if you're not talking?" Shannon pointed out. "If nothing else, you're eye candy til I finish my drink if you're not feelin' the whole conversation thing, but...no, can't be bored when there's been nothing said," she replied with a smug grin.

"Oh I'm very use to that. But by that point I tend to just stay at the bar, less movement needed," he said with a laugh.

He leant forward, his arms folded on the table, smiling a little as her. Yes he loved Annie, but that didn't mean he couldn't admit to himself that he thought this girl was pretty.

"Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realise my silence was boring also when you're aren't talking either," he grinned a little, before raising an eyebrow. "And eye candy am I?"

Shannon narrowed her eyes just slightly with a guarded sort of suspicion. What the heck was he smiling at...?

Ah. That.

"I think it's fair to say you've learned more about me than I've learned about you," Shannon pointed out, arching an eyebrow. "And yes. But I think we've already established that you interest me, Sam," she added with a cock of her eyebrows and a small grin.

He laughed, taking a sip of his drink, before looking back at her. He was waiting, of course, curious as to whether she would take up the offer or think of it as too much of a hassle.

Well he did enjoy being complicated. Seemed to be his life story.

She smirked back at him and raised an eyebrow. "Oh yeah?" she asked, shaking her head slightly. "You don't know me," she pointed out with a cock of her eyebrows.

He grinned a little when she leant forward, not backing off.

"I'm just a regular guy. I spend most of my time at work, either that or with Annie or with the blokes from work. They aren't so different, just still slightly more stunted than now. I was about to go arrest a man for murder before I got brought here."

Oh, that's real cute, Shannon thought. Answer precisely, simply, and without any other sort of conversational jump starts, so that she had to lead the way. Maybe he was smarter than she was giving him credit for.

Shannon finished her second drink and pushed the glass away again before it could refill itself for a third go. "Well that," she agreed, "and to share sympathy, I guess. Or something." She shrugged. "But you don't seem terribly interested in that bit. Honestly, I can't really figure you out at all, pal," she added bluntly.

Usually she could tell right off what a guy wanted. Either he wanted to chat her ear off or fuck her senseless. Sam didn't seem to want to do either and that was confusing for Shannon.

Shannon couldn't tell whether or not Sam was just being honest and straight-forward or underhandedly insulting her when he said he wasn't one to push for sympathy. Especially since she was under the impression that the underlying reason for them to have been meeting up was because they were both suffering losses and it was the main thing that the two seemed to have in common.

"Well, no offense but...you're not at work here," Shannon pointed out gently.

She considered his response to her not being able to figure him out and paused, raising an eyebrow. "You sound just like me. You shut people out when they try to understand, huh?" she asked with honest curiosity.

Sam nodded. He knew he wasn't at work anymore, but he found it hard to shut that part of him away. He spent most of his days pushing people away, acting like nothing was bothering him. It helped him cope.

"I suppose so yes."

She was right. He kept himself to himself, refusing to let anyone in. Other than Annie, but he still kept things from her.

"Not to be a hypocrite," Shannon started slowly, "but that's maybe not the best way to do things."

She didn't go on to say that she did it because she preferred to be on her own. The point was that Shannon knew that most people did it because they didn't know how to do anything else or because they were socially awkward (probably this guy's problem, she thought). Some people did it because they thought they weren't worth anyone's time. Part of the reason Shannon did it was for the opposite reason - no one else was worth her time. For Sam Tyler, she could make an exception, though, she thought.

Sam chuckled a little, nodding. He understood that it wasn't the best way, but it didn't mean he acted any differently. He had grown use to keeping things to himself, and he didn't foresee any change in himself.

"I suppose not."

She really was starting to try and make him talk, wasn't she? He smiled a little across at her, unsure of the questions she was going to ask. More than worried that he'd sound insane, after all a lot of people thought he was back in Manchester.

Shannon shrugged. This guy wasn't going to talk and if he wasn't, there wasn't any reason for her to, either, she didn't think.

"Well, Sam," she said slowly, uncrossing her legs and shifting in her seat. She cleared her throat. "This was...sufficiently awkward," she said with a small smile.

Perhaps it was time for her to take her leave, after all. "And while we didn't do much talking, it was certainly nice to look at you."

Sam chuckled, agreeing with her. It certainly did feel awkward, both of them sizing each other up and not knowing if they were quite ready to trust one another. So she wanted to leave? Well he wasn't a man to force a woman to stay. So being the gentleman, he stood up, offering a hand to shake and to help her out of her seat.

"It was nice to look at you too, Shannon," he said with a grin. "Perhaps we can get that discussion in some other time."

God, he wasn't even going to try and talk her into staying? He wasn't...gonna try and get her to go back to his room? Really? Either he was a really good actor...or he really and truly epitomized this nice guy shtick. Shannon couldn't decide whether she was impressed or affronted. She decided, therefore, on a happy medium - a little bit of both.

Though, when he complimented her offhandedly by parroting her, she smiled and took the offered hand, standing and smoothing down her skirt with her free one. "Maybe," she replied vaguely. Yeah, maybe if she ever bothered to come out of her room again. It wasn't like she had to, after all, right? She didn't count the group activities. Those sucked ass, but they were mandatory and thusly totally did not count. The thing was, she had everything she needed right in her room. A place to sleep, a deep, old-style bathtub, books and magazines, her practice bar, and of course, at her whim, food and drink. The only reason to come out, really, was to socialize and so far, Shannon hadn't seen anyone in the journals she was interested in hanging out with. Greg, she supposed, if she randomly became desperate for attention, but he asked too many fucking questions.

"Although, if you ever find yourself lonely..." she added suggestively, giving him a flirtatious grin as she took her hand away again. "Have a good night, Sam," she said and nodded to him once before starting away.

Normally, she'd have just gone without giving him a chance to respond, but as he was the embodiment of the proverbial Nice Guy, she decided she could bend the rule a little and take it slow, should he have something else to say before she took her leave.

He grinned a little when she said she may finish the discussion with him some time.

"Well I know I certainly would enjoy another attempt at a discussion, if you're wiling."

He raised an eyebrow at her suggestion, pushing his own hands deep in his pocket. He was never use to women being this obvious with their flirtation, having been in the 70's for too long. After all, in 2006 women were far more open but having spent a fair few years in the 70's he was more use to women being more pulled back and within themselves

"I'll keep you in mind," he said with a wink, then watched her as she walked. Remembering the gentleman in him, he quickly caught up, hand on her elbow.

"Let me walk you to your room."

Shannon smirked. "Well, maybe...when you're feeling a bit more conversational, I wouldn't be adverse to it," she teased.

Her own eyebrows arched, impressed, when he came back to her come on with a wink. He touched her elbow and offered to walk her to her room and she shook her head, smiling. How could she turn that down? Maybe he was a little more normal than she was giving him credit for. "All right, then," she agreed, winking back. "No funny business, smart guy," she joked.

With that, she headed out of the bar and toward resident building C. When she got there, she paused before opening the door, because if he wanted to be the gentleman, she sure as shit wasn't going to stop him.

"Perhaps you need to keep prodding at me until I become more conversational," he teased back lightly.

When she agreed, he smiled, nodding his head slightly. Shoving his hands in his pockets as he walked beside her, glancing around as he walked. Of course, he had no idea which building she was in, so he had to just follow on. When they eventually got to the building he guessed was the right one, he reached out and opened the door for her, smiling lightly.

"Ladies first."

Shannon looked over at him, raising her eyebrows and putting a hand on her hip, pretending to look scandalized. "Why, Sam Tyler," she drawled out in a weak attempt at mocking a Southern Belle, "are you flirting?" she joked. A smirk crossed her lips.

He pulled the door open for her and she gave him a genuine smile. "Thank you," she replied and made her way in. "You can...come up if you want," she said with a shrug. "Or, you know, whatever."

Sam chuckled, looking down at the ground for a moment before back at her.

"I believe I may be, you've caught me out," he said with a grin.

Well that was unexpected of him.

"Oh I don't know..." he said, trailing off a little.

Shannon grinned, simultaneously amused and flattered. About time the guy noticed her there.

"I thought maybe," she said softly, the grin softening into a smile. "I don't mind," she added quickly. "You're very cute." And well-off, and successful, from the little bit she'd heard, she thought but didn't add.

When he wasn't sure he wanted to come up, Shannon shrugged again. "No big deal. I'm just gonna practice some more, probably. I can't sleep very much at night...I was used to having to stay awake out of, you know, fear. So my sleep cycle is pretty screwy. You don't have to if you don't want to, just figured I'd offer," she said.

Sam grinned, nodding.

"Cute? So I'm like a puppy or something then? Puppy's are cute."

Sam lost his ability to speak for a moment, looking everywhere but at her. He really did want to continue speaking with her, but it was getting late.

"Perhaps some other time? I'm pretty tired. But why don't you try and get some sleep as well? We can catch up some other time."

Shannon shook her head and smiled. "No, not like a puppy; don't be a smart ass," she teased.

It was adorably amusing, though, that he couldn't look at her when she suggested again that he come up. "That's fine," she agreed. "I'm not going to sleep, though. I'm still gonna practice, but you should get some sleep if you're tired, definitely," she agreed.

With one hand on the doorknob, she looked back at him and gave a fond smile. "G'night Sam," she said softly, pushing the door open and pausing in the doorway for a moment to give him a chance to speak, so that she wouldn't be shutting the door in his face.

"As far as I'm concerned, men can not be called cute. It's not manly enough," he joked.

He hoped he hadn't offended or upset her by turning down the offer, but she did seem genuine, and did seem to want him to be able to rest. When she turned to walk away, he smiled when she turned to face him. Reaching forward, he grabbed her hand, kissing the back of it.

"Goodnight Shannon. Tonight was most enjoyable," he nodded, smiling lightly, before taking a few steps back. He wouldn't leave until she closed the door of course, wanting to check she was alright, but he didn't make it look like he was planning on staying.

"Charming, too," she said, raising her eyebrows and looking impressed as he kissed the back of her hand. Her smile softened. "I'll see you when I see you," she said with a wink.

With that, she let herself into her room when he took a few steps back and she closed the door behind herself, leaning against it for a minute as she considered. Sam was going to be a bit of a hard one to crack, she thought, but maybe it'd be worth trying, in any case. He was charming and sweet...he reminded her, as much as she hated to admit it, of Sayid.

Her smile faded a little and she walked away from the door. It wouldn't do to think about Sayid right now, so she headed back to the practice room, taking off her heels as she went, and took hold of the bar.

"First position. Plie..." she said to herself. Hopefully, she and Sam would get together again sometime. Until then...there was ballet.
