WHO: Snape & Yuna
WHAT: A chance meeting
WHEN: Day 30 while everyone else is out at group activities
WHERE: The library
RATING: PG
STATUS: Complete

Snape had been rather please when he had looked out his window and seen the green of a woodland landscape rather than the white of a blizzard. This planet certainly had a bizarre sense of humour. He couldn't imagine why anyone would want to go somewhere so cold for a vacation. Most of the resorts had been rather pleasant, except for the hurricane, of course. This woodland, however, looked like just the place to do some gathering of ingredients for his potions pantry.

After his morning routine, Snape headed out for breakfast, prepared to sit in a corner where he might not be disturbed by the clamour of other people's conversations, and was rather pleased to discover that there were far more people about. Had they been removed by the planet? Had they been out skating when the ground turned into a lake and they all fell in and drowned? It was all the same to him, really. Good either way.

Pleased with the situation, he had taken the opportunity to make a trip to the library. Usually he found the books he wanted and took them back to his rooms, but this time, he thought it would be safe to stay awhile, take the time to peruse the literature before selecting only those volumes his researches required. His frown absent for the moment, he headed for the stacks.

Snape accepted Yuna's food graciously -- he was, after all, eager to examine it -- but wondered if she had eaten enough. Perhaps he should offer it back, and ask her if she might summon more for him. No, that would seem ungrateful, he decided. She was a big girl. She could decide for herself if she wanted to give up her lunch.

"Thank you very much."

The professor had just begun to examine the vegetables, when Yuna's comment about pumpkins caught him by surprise.

"Poisonous? Whatever are you talking about? No, I don't need healing. It's just pumpkin juice!"

He stopped, seeing her earnest face, realizing he had unnecessarily raised his voice.

"Forgive me. I did not mean to make light of the vegetables of your homeland. Where I come from, pumpkins are not poisonous. Would you like to try some of their juice?"

Yuna simply nodded, rather curious as to what he was going to do with her food. Anyway, she had eaten quite a bit, and had much more of an idea where to get more if she needed it. Watching his reaction to the perfectly normal food was strange and not a little interesting to her.

His reply to her comment had her recoil a bit, and she did her best to bow though she was sitting down. "I'm sorry." She hated upsetting people, and it sort of looked like she had. But then he asked for forgivness, and she smiled in relief at him.

All bets were off, though, when he offered her pumpkin juice. But she was, at heart, a brave girl, and she also knew she could dispel the poison if needed. So she steeled herself as if she were going into battle, and picked up his goblet. She took the tiniest of sips. It didn't immediately kill her, so she drank a bit more.

"Oh, this is really good!"

Snape was fascinated by watching Yuna take a sip of what she was convinced was poison. She barely knew him, and yet she trusted his word in a matter of life and death. Of course, it wasn't as simple as that. She had seen him drink it, so she had a reason to believe him, but he could have already taken the antidote... The potions master completely forgot the strange vegetables as he enjoyed the spectacle before him.

"Well, I'm glad you like it. I barely notice the flavour anymore, I've had it so much. I must like it. I still order it."

Snape took his cup back and had another sip himself before going back to examining the vegetables. They resembled plant-stuffs he was familiar with, but one never knew what qualities lurked in something that played that trick.

"Could I get you to order uncooked versions of these vegetables? I would like five of each."

Yuna nodded. "Yes." She wasn't really one to speak very much, at least not in words. Actions, to her, were much more important than words, and she strove much more to do rather than say. But she'd learned that it was usually better if she said something. It made people less nervous.

She raised her hand politely, deciding to actually order this time, as he had. A golem was instantly at their table, and she spoke very politely to it. "I would like more of these Besaid grains and vegetables, please. Five of each. Thank you." Even to these strange creatures, she couldn't be rude. "Oh!" She'd almost forgotten. "And some pumpkin juice... but from Professor Snape's world, please, not mine!"

With that order being given, she settled back to study him studying her food. It was very interesting. She remembered Marcus' reaction when she'd taken a sip of the juice that had seemed so normal to him, but totally strange to her. She wondered if she would ever get the change to study his food. Chances were good, though, that they wouldn't really be spending much time together. She had to get off Mirage and go back home.

"Is it... very different?" She had left him in silence for a long while, but eventually her curiousity got the better of her.

Snape was pleased with Yuna's responsiveness to his request. He sipped more pumpkin juice as they waited. He found her manner fairly interesting, too. She was rather earnest, but very reserved. Polite almost to a fault, her considerateness was going to get her in trouble someday, he suspected. Watching her, he waited, letting her speak first.

"I can't really say, at the moment. I need to do some experiments on them in my laboratory. They may have some hidden qualities, of which even you might not be aware."

He continued eyeing her until the vegetables arrived. Reaching behind him, he grabbed a basket he had mentally requested. He would ask a golem to bring them to his room while he showed the girl the rest of the resort. His experiments could wait until that was done, at least.

Yuna waited until the dark-haired man was ready to go, and rose to her feet. She was feeling much better, actually, comfortably full but not overfull. And she had much more curiousity now that the food problem was taken care of, too.

"Okay." She nodded and smiled slightly at the man. "Shall we, then?" She fully intended to take him up on his offer, because she wasn't sure when she'd get another like it and she was sick of being lost all the time.

As they headed off toward the door together, she found that she was almost excited about what she might see. It was a strange place, here but almost pleasant. For a jail, of course, as she kept reminding herself over and over. For a jail.
