Who: Gwen Cooper and Jack Harkness (and whoever wants to play greeter)
When: Day 27
What: A Simple Rift Gift Chase?
Rating: PG-13 to be safe
Status: Complete

"You said this was a simple runaway weevil!" came the voice of Gwen Cooper from within the sewers. She and Jack had been chasing the weevil for at least the last couple of hours and as usual Gwen took her now usual header into some sewer water, something that before losing Tosh and Owen would have been a cause of laughter. But now she missed the wisecracks that would have come post landing. She turned long enough to hide a sneeze, not knowing she was coming down with more than a simple ear infection.

In the aftermath of the Earth being stolen by the Daleks Torchwood had been busy with the usual duties but there was something missing. Owen's wisecracks and the brains of Tosh since they had died pre Dalek invasion. That was when she took another crash landing into what she figured was a stray puddle of sewer water but this was bigger than normal, even for the sewers of Cardiff.

"Jack! Where are you?" came the female voice, soaking wet but otherwise in one piece and with her bag somehow landing neatly close by. The light caught the simple ring on its chain around Gwen's neck, her wedding ring.

Michiru sighed inwardly. Her hearing was perfectly good, better than good, after years and years of musical training. She couldn't pick up on everything the woman whispered, but she could pick up on enough to wonder why the woman was bothering with whispering. Rudeness, that's what it was, rudeness plain and simple.

"Oh it's been tested sir" she said, not bothering to hide the fact that she was talking just to him. "Trust me, we've tried" Her tone was laced with bitterness, but she forced herself to give him a small smile as she glanced around. There should be keys somewhere... Yes, there was the blinking red lights. She slipped around the counter and picked out the two keys.
"Looks like you're both in F dorm" she said, handing them their respective keys. "If you'd like sir, I can show you the way."

Jack gave Gwen's hand a squeeze and then gave her a small, slightly sad smile. "We're not on Earth anymore, Gwen," he said in a normal tone of voice. He hadn't been there in a while but he knew the Japanese were more conscious of propriety and politeness than the West. "You're not goign to get a signal." She wasn't going to like that.

"Right," he said grimly. He didn't really accept that there wasn't a way off. There had to be one. He took the key the young woman offered him and saw F207 written on the key fob. He smiled winningly at Michiru. There was no point getting frustrated with her after all. She was being extremely helpful though he hadn't missed her reaction to Gwen. He could wish that Gwen was a bit quicker to pick up on other people's moods. "Thank you. I think we'd both like that."

Gwen had just redial when she heard Jack's statment about her phone. As she came to grips with the fact she was not going to get a signal she simply dropped the phone back into her back, turning around just long enough to sneeze into her tissue. She was indeed coming down with a cold from too little sleep and too many trips into the sewers as of late.

"That would be nice" Gwen meekly nodded. She could only shoot the younger woman a look of apology and accepted her own key. She gave Jack one of her unique looks that simply said one thing,"We have to talk". But her eyes spoke a different story (one only Jack would understand), the last few weeks were finally starting to catch up to her.

"This way then" Michiru said returning Jack's smile. He was quite charming, even if he did currently smell like he'd just crawled out of the sewers. She led them out of the main building and over to the F dorm.

"I'm over in C dorm, which is across the way" she said as they walked. "The Planet provides just about everything one could want. Food, entertainment; there's even a party going on today if you're interested. Everything's provided except a way home." She sighed as she opened the door to the F dorm and ushered the two newcomers in. It didn't take long to find Jack's room, so she stopped in front of the door.

"This one is your room" she said. "Though before you go in, I should warn you, the Planet makes rooms it thinks you will like. Mine was far, far too much like my one at home. It can be a bit of a shock."

Jack nodded as he listened to what Michiru had to say. So the planet provided a richly gilded cage, did it? Nice but Jack had no intention of staying here. Earth might have its downsides but he much preferred it that way.

"Thank you, Michiru-san. I count myself warned," he said with another bow and one of his flirtatious smiles. "Your help has been invaluable and I do hope to see you again."

He then turned to Gwen and gave her a reassuring smile. "Gwen, get cleaned up and get some rest, okay? We'll figure this out and get home, I promise. Trust me, I want to get back to Ianto as much as you want to get back to Rhys."

With that he opened the door and stepped into what had to be the most interesting rooms he'd seen in a very long time.

Gwen nodded,"By the looks of things I am just a few doors away. But you win, lose the sewer stink and I'll be good and rest" making a weak joke in the process.

But her heart was back in Cardiff and with Rhys as she opened the door to her room and what she saw shocked even someone like her. The room was a perfect match to her and Rhys's flat and the workspace was exactly like the one she has in the Hub. The black leather notebook sitting next to the computer was what struck her most, the symbol for Torchwood was on the front along with her name.

"Ok Jack, once we lose the sewer stink we have to talk" she decided to herself. But a few minutes later the only sound coming from Gwen's room was the sound of a full blast shower mixed with a lot of sneezing and dry heaving (having been able to keep the fact she was getting a nasty cold from Jack the whole time).
