Who: Gwen Cooper and Jack Harkness (and whoever wants to play greeter)
When: Day 27
What: A Simple Rift Gift Chase?
Rating: PG-13 to be safe
Status: Complete

"You said this was a simple runaway weevil!" came the voice of Gwen Cooper from within the sewers. She and Jack had been chasing the weevil for at least the last couple of hours and as usual Gwen took her now usual header into some sewer water, something that before losing Tosh and Owen would have been a cause of laughter. But now she missed the wisecracks that would have come post landing. She turned long enough to hide a sneeze, not knowing she was coming down with more than a simple ear infection.

In the aftermath of the Earth being stolen by the Daleks Torchwood had been busy with the usual duties but there was something missing. Owen's wisecracks and the brains of Tosh since they had died pre Dalek invasion. That was when she took another crash landing into what she figured was a stray puddle of sewer water but this was bigger than normal, even for the sewers of Cardiff.

"Jack! Where are you?" came the female voice, soaking wet but otherwise in one piece and with her bag somehow landing neatly close by. The light caught the simple ring on its chain around Gwen's neck, her wedding ring.

"It is a simple runaway weevil," Jack said with a hint of amusement in his voice as he crept along the sewer tunnel, his old Webley at the ready. He hated doing the sewer runs. The smell was hideous and it got into his coat which both he and Ianto hated. "It's just an annoying simple runaway weevil."

He made a mental note to get Mickey and Martha into Torchwood sooner rather than later. Mickey shouldn't be too hard to convince. From what he could tell all he'd need to do was wave a nice piece of tech in front of the boy and he'd be in. Martha might take a bit more convincing but frankly he wanted to get her away from a UNIT that would actually deploy something like the Osterhagen Key.

He heard a splash from ahead of him and then nothing and he frowned. "Gwen?" he called then kept going. For a moment he couldn't find her then he saw a flash of light and headed in that direction. How what happened next occurred, he would probably spend some time figuring out. He suddenly found himself tripping over something and falling. He kept a tight grip on his gun and twisted as he fell so that he landed on his back in a pool of water.

"Oof!" He grimaced as he sat up. "Wonderful," he said grouchily as water dripped from his coat. He then looked around and frowned. "What the hell?"

"You and me both!" came Gwen from the next puddle. "One we both reek of the sewers and two this is not the sewers, we're in snow!" her shock not a suprise at this point since she had landed in a snowbank. She grabbed her bag and came over, quickly hiding a sneeze. "Did we just become Rift gifts?" her hair and jeans soaking wet from the suprise landing.

Her eyes were shadows of her usual sprakle, the last couple of weeks having taken a massive toll. "I can't get Andy on the mobile either" fishing for the thankfully dry phone and hitting redial in case of a bad signal.
