Who: Aragorn and Legolas
What: Talking getting things straight
When: Late evening
Where: Legolas' room
Rating: PG-13
Status: complete

Aragorn had an interesting night to be honest. He had not been able to sleep. Not even close. His conversation with Vaako played in his mind as well as just everything he was feeling with and for Legolas.

The dark haired Ranger had not left his room since returning to it.He had not planned to. He spent his time alone, thinking. He had taken a meditating position upon the center of his floor that now resembled that of a forest instead of rooms found back in Rivendale.

There was a fire burning in front of him warming him and opening him up.And he allowed himself to slip into deep thought. His heart no longer belonged to the beautiful Arwen. In truth it hadn't belonged to her in quite a while. Somehow a friendship grew so deeply between him and Legolas though neither would gush about it so to speak. But somehow along the way it had turned to something more. Something much deeper, scarier and complicated.

It hit him right as he opened his eyes that while the subject had been brought up they had hardly touched on him and Arwen and now it was time, Aragorn decided. It was time for him to be completely honest. It was time to tell Legolas that he had fallen in love with him. Standing and only grabbing the sword of which he would never part, Aragorn gathered his courage and strength and slipped from his room going the short distance to the room beside of him.Hesitating only one moment he knocked on the door hoping the Elf was in his room.He also made a note to speak to him of the matter of Vaako should the warrior start trouble.

It should have bothered him that as they sat Legolas ended up in his lap once more.It should have irritated him and at the very least Aragorn should have removed the bratty Elvin Prince from his lap. But none of this happened. What did happen was Aragorn wrapped his arms around Legolas and rested his head on his slender shoulder as he took a in a deep breath. He was shaking he realized. And for the first time in so very long, Aragorn felt real, truly real danger and fear. Something was indeed about to happen. and he feared Legolas was right. It would tear them away from each other.

"No matter what Legolas, we will find each other again. I will not stop searching until I do." he promised with a mixture of violent faith and pure desperation. He was truly in fear of the danger lurking somewhere near by. He was more fearful of this deep love so deep within him for the Elf.

He was blushing, his chest rising up and down a little more. His hold on Legolas went tighter as he tried to find a way to explain this without telling him the total truth. With this danger lurking, they both needed to be focused and clear headed.

"I no longer believe in destiny. Not in it being set out for us. I believe our destiny is what we make it to be." He paused and closed his eyes."SO much to explain. So much to tell but not yet, my Elfin Prince. Not yet.We need to be focused on te coming danger. But the moment it is past we will have this talk again." God this was hard. he wanted to just yell it out but he could not.Not yet.

Though he was impulsive, almost reckless at times, he was still an elf. And no creature who lived eternally could possibly be impatient about most things. They would be driven insane. So elves learned to wait, and enjoy the process of waiting. Legolas had learned this from a young age. Of course, it was all going out the window right about now. He didn't want to wait. Not even remotely. If there were things to talk about, they should do it now!

But then, he did recognize the human was right. Danger must come first, and be dealt with. And only after that challenge, whatever it was, had been faced and met, only then was it the time for talk. He sighed, nodding slightly to show he understood and accepted the human's words. He didn't have to like it, he just had to do it.

Of course, the way he was feeling, they wouldn't have to wait long before they talked again. Whatever was coming, was coming soon. He'd felt the dread building in his mind, and his rest had been troubled lately. It couldn't be longer, and Legolas wanted it to come now, so that he could fight it and then they could have the promised conversation. Aragorn had avoided his question about if there was someone else. If there was, Legolas wanted to know. Or, at least, part of him did.

"Destiny or not, you are still my King." He smiled softly, his words a bit more serious than he would have liked. He switched briefly to elven. "Even without your elven princess, and your crown, you will always be my King. And, of course, you could always wear my crown..."

If he had been capable of blushing, he would have done so. Luckily for him, elves can't. Would Aragorn know what he had just offered? He could only hope that the Ranger thought it was a joke, after all, the elf was known for joking about everything and anything. He buried his face into the other man's shoulder, breathing deeply. This was getting to be more than a little difficult.

It was quite odd. Despite knowing something was about to happen that would take him from Legolas, he was finding comfort and peace within himself at just being with him now. Of course every part of him screamed for him to tell Legolas the truth because perhaps this would truly be the last time they saw each other. He wanted too badly but they needed to focus and this would ruin that focus and cause them to slip. They had to be on guard.

THough shivers went through him at hearing the Elven being spoken and he closed his eyes, speaking softly in the same language. "Perhaps I simply want to be your Human." He paused knowing damn well how it sounded but meaning so much more. But he couldn't say it now though he hated waiting.

"We must be careful and mindful, Legolas." He changed the subject quickly. But it was also needed. "I sense that soon the darkness we know is coming will be upon us and it might be too late for us to stop it."

Slowly, knowing he had to do it, he climbed off Aragorn's lap. But he settled down beside him, and he took his hand in his. It was an effort, but he kept his touch light, affectionately friendly and nothing more. He rested his head lightly on the human's shoulder, offering comfort and accepting it, too. After all, love hadn't replaced the friendship he felt for the human, it had just added to it. There was no reason why they couldn't spend this time together as friends.

His reply was, at first, in elven. "That, you will always be. Have no fear on that account." He switched back to common. "I do not sense that it is coming tonight. We still have these last hours. Perhaps all will yet work out just fine." His voice didn't have a lot of hope to it.

Silently, they sat on the couch, as hour after hour of the long night passed. Sometimes, they talked. More often, they just sat in silence, hand in hand, the elf with his head on the human's shoulder. Just like in the old days, really, around the campfire. Only much more comfortable.
