Day 3- Country Cooking Class
Who: Xena, Lestat, Souji, Jack
What: Country Cooking Lesson
When: Mid-Afternoon
Where: The Kitchens
Rating: R- thanks to Lestat's foul mouth.
Status: Complete!

Xena started awake. She sat up and looked around her. The room was the same one she had woken up in for the past few days, but the soft sounds of breathing beside her told her that she was not alone. She looked down and smiled. Gabrielle was slumbering peacefully. Rather than wake her, Xena scooted gently out of bed and went into the shower. She showered and dressed in a clean set of leather armor and brushed her hair.

She peeked out into the room to find Gabrielle still slumbering. Yesterday had been a difficult day for her, and she understood her weariness. She watched her for a minute before she decided to go get some breakfast for the both of them. She opened her door, and heard the rustle of paper against it. She saw the envelopes taped to the door. One was for her, and the other was for Gabrielle.

She took them both off the door and shut it again. She pulled her envelope open and looked at the paper within. Her eyes widened and then she scowled. "Country cooking!" She hissed. Of all the stupid things. Gabrielle was the cook, not her. She wanted to open Gabrielle's envelope and she what she was going to be doing that day, but she knew it was Gabrielle's right to open her own message. She set the envelope on the bed next to her and turned back to the door.

Angrily shoving the envelope into the waistband of her leather, she stalked down the hall to find something for breakfast. She grabbed a few pieces of fruit, some bread, some cheese and a few bottles of water. She headed back to her room and left the breakfast on the table for Gabrielle before she left again.

She really didn't want to do this. She busied herself that morning with riding Argo, brushing her down afterward, and doing some more exploring. She knew Gabrielle was tired, and didn't want to haul her around with her all morning when she should be getting her rest. But, just before she went to the kitchen for the damnable cooking class, she peeked in on her. She wasn't there, so she must have gone off on her own adventure. Xena was satisfied to know that Gabrielle couldn't leave her again. Not if what this Planet said was true.

She headed into the kitchen and saw a Golem putting a round shiny disc with a hole in the middle into some metal box with a tray. It was attached with a bunch of vines to a bigger more square box with a glass front. Xena had still not learned about the wonders of TV and DVD players. She watched with interest, though she appeared aloof, as the Golem turned on the TV and fiddled with the DVD player.

Soon, a rather plump woman with grey hair appeared in the glass. Xena narrowed her eyes. This was quite strange, but there were a lot of things that were strange in this place. And then the plump woman began to speak. "Hi ya'll, I'm Paula Deen." Raising a brow, she watched the Golem hit a button on the DVD player to pause it until the others arrived.

The woman's response was definitely an unhappy one, and Souji couldn't entirely blame her. However, it wasn't something that could be helped, and he was of the opinion that taking such matters out on people who also couldn't help it, no matter how slight, was bad form. Regardless, they were grumpier people within the Shinsengumi, so it wasn't something Souji was disused to dealing with. "It's nice to meet you, Xena", he responded out of habit and politeness. He couldn't, however, help but wonder where the woman was from. She looked like a warrior, but that was all he could tell. She wasn't from Asia, and she must have been from further west than India. He wondered what country trained their women as warriors. It wasn't that he didn't believe they could fight, it was that they had a duty entirely different to men. But then, westerners seemed to have an entirely different idea on that, he'd noticed.

As another man arrived, Souji couldn't help the slight look of surprise that crossed his face. Was he the only Japanese, here? He'd never seen a man quite like this one before - he was so pale, and his hair... Bowing, Souji replied to the introduction. "Souji Okita. It's nice to meet you, Lestat de Lioncourt". Standing up straight again, he glanced curiously at the woman, her response to the man was interesting. It seemed as if he put her on edge. Expression flickering as he glanced from one to the other, he decided he would ask the woman about her unease at a later point - if, of course, she was willing to say why.

As the next man entered, Souji stared at him with curiosity, his interest having been piqued as soon as he'd mentioned the word 'captain'. He studied him for a moment - like the others here, he wasn't wearing any clothing he was familiar with, but that was not to say he wasn't a captain, of course. Appearances had a habit of being deceptive, after all. Souji, himself, was wearing an informal, day-to-day kimono. He'd been told on more than one occasion that he didn't give off the air of one who was in the Shinsengumi (before reminding them that they weren't all like Serizawa, or, indeed, Kano). "Captain Harkness", he repeated, a smile crossing his features before bowing. Apparently he was going to have to get used to dealing with people from the west. "I'm Captain Souji Okita, of the Shinsengumi's First Troop. It's nice to meet you".

At the sound of the TV turning back on, Souji stared at it, startled. Hand immediately travelling to the katana sheathed at his waist, his fingers curled around the handle, before realising that the others did not seem in the least bit perturbed by the box and it's sound, the... People inside. Frowning, he dropped his hand to his side, watching and listening curiously, wondering what the thing was. The woman in it seemed to be telling them of how to cook. Looking at the food laid out for them, he couldn't say he knew how they would combine to form a meal. Some of it didn't look in the least bit appetising.
