Day 3- Country Cooking Class
Who: Xena, Lestat, Souji, Jack
What: Country Cooking Lesson
When: Mid-Afternoon
Where: The Kitchens
Rating: R- thanks to Lestat's foul mouth.
Status: Complete!

Xena started awake. She sat up and looked around her. The room was the same one she had woken up in for the past few days, but the soft sounds of breathing beside her told her that she was not alone. She looked down and smiled. Gabrielle was slumbering peacefully. Rather than wake her, Xena scooted gently out of bed and went into the shower. She showered and dressed in a clean set of leather armor and brushed her hair.

She peeked out into the room to find Gabrielle still slumbering. Yesterday had been a difficult day for her, and she understood her weariness. She watched her for a minute before she decided to go get some breakfast for the both of them. She opened her door, and heard the rustle of paper against it. She saw the envelopes taped to the door. One was for her, and the other was for Gabrielle.

She took them both off the door and shut it again. She pulled her envelope open and looked at the paper within. Her eyes widened and then she scowled. "Country cooking!" She hissed. Of all the stupid things. Gabrielle was the cook, not her. She wanted to open Gabrielle's envelope and she what she was going to be doing that day, but she knew it was Gabrielle's right to open her own message. She set the envelope on the bed next to her and turned back to the door.

Angrily shoving the envelope into the waistband of her leather, she stalked down the hall to find something for breakfast. She grabbed a few pieces of fruit, some bread, some cheese and a few bottles of water. She headed back to her room and left the breakfast on the table for Gabrielle before she left again.

She really didn't want to do this. She busied herself that morning with riding Argo, brushing her down afterward, and doing some more exploring. She knew Gabrielle was tired, and didn't want to haul her around with her all morning when she should be getting her rest. But, just before she went to the kitchen for the damnable cooking class, she peeked in on her. She wasn't there, so she must have gone off on her own adventure. Xena was satisfied to know that Gabrielle couldn't leave her again. Not if what this Planet said was true.

She headed into the kitchen and saw a Golem putting a round shiny disc with a hole in the middle into some metal box with a tray. It was attached with a bunch of vines to a bigger more square box with a glass front. Xena had still not learned about the wonders of TV and DVD players. She watched with interest, though she appeared aloof, as the Golem turned on the TV and fiddled with the DVD player.

Soon, a rather plump woman with grey hair appeared in the glass. Xena narrowed her eyes. This was quite strange, but there were a lot of things that were strange in this place. And then the plump woman began to speak. "Hi ya'll, I'm Paula Deen." Raising a brow, she watched the Golem hit a button on the DVD player to pause it until the others arrived.

Souji didn't plan on remaining in this place long enough to worry too much about missing flower viewing in Kyoto, and regardless, he thought that he had more important things to worry about. How this situation related to the Shinsengumi regulations was troubling him more than he'd care to admit. Nevertheless, he smiled slightly at Lestat and nodded his head. "That could be pleasant. I'd rather not be here long enough to want to ask about making the place seem that familiar, though", he responded, returning to his food as the others conversed. It seemed that the food was almost done. He couldn't say he fancied eating any of it, however.

He glanced up, eyebrows slightly raised as the other Captain spoke to him. He seemed amused by Souji's question to Xena, and it occurred to him that for this man, perhaps the idea of women being trained to use weapons wasn't the least bit strange. "Of course". His gaze shifted to Xena. "I meant no disrespect", he clarified before listening to her answer. He was impressed that she was primarily self-taught, although he did wonder what her skills were like as a result. From the fact that she was alive, and that she had that many weapons, he imagined she would be effective, but in the art of fighting... He wondered whether it was an art for her, or merely a means. He was, of course, somewhat curious as to how she was familiar with samurai in Higuchi, but it was none of his business, so he refrained from asking any more about the matter. Her company was her own to keep, and he thought it perhaps said something about her that she had kept their company at all.

Taking his food off the grill and draining the vegetables, Souji set about preparing the food on a plate. Arrangement had never been a particularly great skill of his, and he couldn't help but think that there was a reason why women arranged flowers and were the primary cooks of a household. As he did so, he listened with interest as Xena answered Lestat's question. He wondered about the man who had betrayed her, and why, and likewise about the woman who had given her life for Xena. It occurred to him that she must be an impressive woman.

After finishing with his food, he cleaned and washed up his workspace and utensils before setting them back where he had got them from. The meal, he too, left at his workspace; he couldn't see himself eating such a large meal, nor could he see himself eating such food generally. Bowing slightly at Lestat and Jack, he spoke before leaving the room. "It was nice to meet you".
