Day 3- Country Cooking Class
Who: Xena, Lestat, Souji, Jack
What: Country Cooking Lesson
When: Mid-Afternoon
Where: The Kitchens
Rating: R- thanks to Lestat's foul mouth.
Status: Complete!

Xena started awake. She sat up and looked around her. The room was the same one she had woken up in for the past few days, but the soft sounds of breathing beside her told her that she was not alone. She looked down and smiled. Gabrielle was slumbering peacefully. Rather than wake her, Xena scooted gently out of bed and went into the shower. She showered and dressed in a clean set of leather armor and brushed her hair.

She peeked out into the room to find Gabrielle still slumbering. Yesterday had been a difficult day for her, and she understood her weariness. She watched her for a minute before she decided to go get some breakfast for the both of them. She opened her door, and heard the rustle of paper against it. She saw the envelopes taped to the door. One was for her, and the other was for Gabrielle.

She took them both off the door and shut it again. She pulled her envelope open and looked at the paper within. Her eyes widened and then she scowled. "Country cooking!" She hissed. Of all the stupid things. Gabrielle was the cook, not her. She wanted to open Gabrielle's envelope and she what she was going to be doing that day, but she knew it was Gabrielle's right to open her own message. She set the envelope on the bed next to her and turned back to the door.

Angrily shoving the envelope into the waistband of her leather, she stalked down the hall to find something for breakfast. She grabbed a few pieces of fruit, some bread, some cheese and a few bottles of water. She headed back to her room and left the breakfast on the table for Gabrielle before she left again.

She really didn't want to do this. She busied herself that morning with riding Argo, brushing her down afterward, and doing some more exploring. She knew Gabrielle was tired, and didn't want to haul her around with her all morning when she should be getting her rest. But, just before she went to the kitchen for the damnable cooking class, she peeked in on her. She wasn't there, so she must have gone off on her own adventure. Xena was satisfied to know that Gabrielle couldn't leave her again. Not if what this Planet said was true.

She headed into the kitchen and saw a Golem putting a round shiny disc with a hole in the middle into some metal box with a tray. It was attached with a bunch of vines to a bigger more square box with a glass front. Xena had still not learned about the wonders of TV and DVD players. She watched with interest, though she appeared aloof, as the Golem turned on the TV and fiddled with the DVD player.

Soon, a rather plump woman with grey hair appeared in the glass. Xena narrowed her eyes. This was quite strange, but there were a lot of things that were strange in this place. And then the plump woman began to speak. "Hi ya'll, I'm Paula Deen." Raising a brow, she watched the Golem hit a button on the DVD player to pause it until the others arrived.

As Lestat commented that he'd been to Kyoto, and proclaimed it to be beautiful, Souji nodded his agreement. "Yes. I'd have liked to have at least been able to go flower viewing for a final time before arriving here". Whilst it wasn't an ugly place, it didn't, in his opinion, compare to any degree with Kyoto. Edo was pleasant enough, as far as he was concerned, but it also didn't compare to Kyoto. He was a little surprised Lestat mentioned geisha; he hadn't thought that foreigners - the few that came to Japan - were interested in such matters. The majority of foreigners he'd heard of were Christian missionaries, or traders. He hadn't thought that many would bother wandering the streets to find entertainment from geiko. Besides, many suspected that a number of geiko hid imperialists and revolutionaries who wise to overthrow the bakufu, the idea that the same teahouses where it was suspected imperialists plotted the bakufu's downfall would allow entry to those they wished to keep out of the country hadn't entered his head. He didn't suppose it mattered though; the Shinsengumi would win, and such a thing wouldn't be an issue.

As, however, Lestat mentioned an ability to read minds, Souji instantly became far more distrustful of the man (whether he actually was a man was up for debate). Only demons could read minds - certainly not ordinary humans, and Souji couldn't help but wonder whether he had been placed within the group as a means for the Planet to keep an eye on them beyond the mute golem at the front of the room. As for the other man, the Captain... If he had died several times, Souji couldn't help but wonder just what he was, as well. Regardless, Souji hummed softly to show he had listened to his comment about working with a Japanese woman. Sato was a common enough name. The war he mentioned being in meant nothing to him, and neither did the word 'RAF'. War, as far as he was concerned, wasn't a topic that was suitable for light conversation, and he didn't feel the need to ask him what he had been fighting for - particularly as he didn't seem keen on elaborating, despite the fact he had been a volunteer. Souji wondered briefly what had happened for that to occur; if he was a volunteer, he would have felt strongly about the issue, surely.

As the woman spoke to him, he looked up, a brief flash of surprise crossing his expression, before giving her a small, slight, neutral smile. It was unusual for westerner's to be able to recognise samurai, and he couldn't help but wonder how she pinpointed him as a samurai, rather than a member of the Shinsengumi. "Some have that name, but not all are samurai. I'm a captain in the Shinsengumi", he told her. It was the primary reason why he carried his swords with him habitually. These days, though, the Shinsengumi weren't made up solely of men from samurai families, of course. That method had proved disadvantageous. "But yes, my family is a samurai family", he clarified, before turning his attention back to the potatoes and setting them to boil, and then suitably attending to the corn. He listened with interest as the woman confirmed where she was from and began talking about her weapons.

He wasn't sure what he thought about a woman being so capable with weapons; he knew of women who could suitably defend themselves with a dagger, but it was nothing compared to this woman. That wasn't to say that they didn't exist in Japan, it just... Wasn't common, and it unsettled him slightly. A woman's duty was different to a man's. Frowning at his food for a moment, he glanced across at her. "Are all women where you're from so..." He sought for the correct word for a moment. "Well trained in weaponry?"
