Day 3- Country Cooking Class
Who: Xena, Lestat, Souji, Jack
What: Country Cooking Lesson
When: Mid-Afternoon
Where: The Kitchens
Rating: R- thanks to Lestat's foul mouth.
Status: Complete!

Xena started awake. She sat up and looked around her. The room was the same one she had woken up in for the past few days, but the soft sounds of breathing beside her told her that she was not alone. She looked down and smiled. Gabrielle was slumbering peacefully. Rather than wake her, Xena scooted gently out of bed and went into the shower. She showered and dressed in a clean set of leather armor and brushed her hair.

She peeked out into the room to find Gabrielle still slumbering. Yesterday had been a difficult day for her, and she understood her weariness. She watched her for a minute before she decided to go get some breakfast for the both of them. She opened her door, and heard the rustle of paper against it. She saw the envelopes taped to the door. One was for her, and the other was for Gabrielle.

She took them both off the door and shut it again. She pulled her envelope open and looked at the paper within. Her eyes widened and then she scowled. "Country cooking!" She hissed. Of all the stupid things. Gabrielle was the cook, not her. She wanted to open Gabrielle's envelope and she what she was going to be doing that day, but she knew it was Gabrielle's right to open her own message. She set the envelope on the bed next to her and turned back to the door.

Angrily shoving the envelope into the waistband of her leather, she stalked down the hall to find something for breakfast. She grabbed a few pieces of fruit, some bread, some cheese and a few bottles of water. She headed back to her room and left the breakfast on the table for Gabrielle before she left again.

She really didn't want to do this. She busied herself that morning with riding Argo, brushing her down afterward, and doing some more exploring. She knew Gabrielle was tired, and didn't want to haul her around with her all morning when she should be getting her rest. But, just before she went to the kitchen for the damnable cooking class, she peeked in on her. She wasn't there, so she must have gone off on her own adventure. Xena was satisfied to know that Gabrielle couldn't leave her again. Not if what this Planet said was true.

She headed into the kitchen and saw a Golem putting a round shiny disc with a hole in the middle into some metal box with a tray. It was attached with a bunch of vines to a bigger more square box with a glass front. Xena had still not learned about the wonders of TV and DVD players. She watched with interest, though she appeared aloof, as the Golem turned on the TV and fiddled with the DVD player.

Soon, a rather plump woman with grey hair appeared in the glass. Xena narrowed her eyes. This was quite strange, but there were a lot of things that were strange in this place. And then the plump woman began to speak. "Hi ya'll, I'm Paula Deen." Raising a brow, she watched the Golem hit a button on the DVD player to pause it until the others arrived.

Xena noticed the lack of conversation coming from the Japanese man. She could appreciate that. Xena wasn't much of a talker herself. Especially when it came to any sort of menial task such as cooking. She was just trying to concentrate on getting the task overwith so she could leave. She knew the warning about leaving before it was over. So, that was out of the question. She didn't think a stone or wooden man would be able to stand against her, but she wasn't sure and didn't want to chance it. She'd gone up against Gods and even more ruthless opponents, but none of them had ever been a thinking, feeling planet with the powers of all the Gods comined.

When the smooth sensual voice of the vampire touched her ears again, Xena did her best not to cringe away and grab for her whip. She rolled her shoulders and finished cleaning her own bird without any rude gestures on her part. She combined all the ingredients for the rub and remembered the time that Gabrielle and Joxer had made black powder from some miscellaneous ingredients in order to thwart a plan by a deranged Chin woman. This memory made Xena smile crookedly in spite of the fact she didn't want to be here doing this.

Xena ignored the lewd gestures Lestat and Jack were making with their birds and continued to work in silent fury. She rubbed the bird with the spice mixture and inserted the beer can into the body cavity. Carrying the bird out to her own grill, she settled it where directed and closed the lid on it. When she passed Lestat, she grit her teeth to keep her tongue in her mouth. She didn't want to say something to provoke the son of a bacchae. Because then she'd have to kill him, and now that she was reunited with Gabrielle, she didn't want to risk losing her again.

Her eyes slid to Jack as they reconvened in the kitchens and began working on the other things. Breading the okra and wrapping the corn on the cobb in tin foil to be placed around the bird after it had cooked a certain amount of time, boiling potatoes for the mashed potatoes and gravy. Xena was starting to get the hang of this cooking gig, even if she still resented the fact that she'd been assigned to do something she didn't enjoy.

She didn't have her weapons on her, but if she had, she might have snapped her whip just above Lestat's hands while he groped the naked bird earlier. She wasn't even wearing her scabbard on her back. Just her leather armor and bronze breastplate. She wasn't completely defenseless, however. She had gained an amazing ability to use a telekinetic power she'd obtained from Lao Ma before her death. The next time Lestat tried to make her do something with that voice of his, he might find a fireball aimed at his crotch.

When Xena had her potatoes on to boil, and everything else was nearly finished, she leaned against the counter. "So where's everyone from?" She could be completely uncivil, but since she couldn't exactly kill them and forget about them, she decided it was probably best to get along, if not make friends.
