Day 14
Who: Ayla & John
What: Go-Carting!
When: Morning
Where: Cafe- then Go-Carts
Rating: PG, if that
Status: Incomplete

It was another glorious morning outside. Sunlight streamed through what could be classified as a window in the wall of her cave-like room. She was happy when she woke up. She prepared the tea she always made for herself and a different brew for Yvaine. The past several days she'd taken the tea to her so that her leg would heal faster.

But after showering, dressing and heading to Yvaine's room, she found that the star woman's leg was by some miracle completely healed. She examined the leg herself and was astonished. Yvaine explained about Tonks and the magical ability to heal instantly and Ayla wished that she had a similar power.

Leaving Yvaine, she headed down to the cafe for some breakfast. She settled herself in a booth and a golem made of clay walked over to take her order. She ordered some poached eggs, a ham steak and a nutty bread toast with gooseberry jam. She waited patiently for it to arrive, sipping some cold milk and looking around at the other patrons of the restaurant. When it arrived, she smiled and thanked the golem who promptly turned and left her to her breakfast.

She buttered and jellied her toast, taking a bite out of it. She was still astonished at the idea that she didn't have to go find all this food herself. That it was already prepared was even more strange. She was used to having the hunters provide the meat for her, but she always had to prepare it. And she had to gather grains and roots to supplement their meat supply. For it all to be laid out in front of her with no work on her part other than requesting it, was altogether unnatural.

She hummed slightly under her breath as she ate, still watching the other customers in the cafe under the cover of lowered brows. She had been reprimanded many times by Creb not to stare. But staring in the Clan equaled eavesdropping. She was just observing, but she still didn't want to be caught in case these people also thought it was rude. She lifted her gaze to the door when she saw it open from the corner of her eye.

She recognized the broad, dark-haired man and, after swallowing the mouthful of food, she smiled and lifted a hand to wave.

"I am sure she would also be pleased to meet you, John. She is very pleasant company." She smiled and thought how wonderful it would be for the man who had flown among the stars for so long to actually meet one face to face. She was pleased that he seemed to believe that the woman was an actual star, as well, rather than this other type of star he was speaking of.

She was fascinated by the building of the vehicle and the demonstration of how it would move. She laughed softly when the vehicle rolled off the edge of the table and fell onto the bench beside her. She picked up the broken model and put the pieces back on the table. "I see. I hope these go-carts do not fall apart or roll off the edges of cliffs the way this one did." She grinned.

She was also pleased that her trust in him was not misplaced as he assured her that he would take care of her and that she was safe with him as a driver. She took his hand as he exited the booth and she was pulled along behind him. "John?" She looked confused as she walked with him toward the garage where the go-carts were kept. "Why do you call me Princess? My name is Ayla." In Ayla's world, there was no royalty. There were leaders and people of status, but no royalty. She didn't know the meaning of the word he used, or why he used it in place of her name. Pet names and nicknames were also quite foreign to her.

They arrived at the garage a short while later and she stood aside while John opened the doors and motored out a go-cart. It was loud and very strange looking although she could see how John's model had compared to it. It had four wheels and something in which to sit. It reminded her very vaguely of a metal Baby, the cavelion she'd raised from a cub. She wondered if it went as fast as he did.
