Day 14
Who: Ayla & John
What: Go-Carting!
When: Morning
Where: Cafe- then Go-Carts
Rating: PG, if that
Status: Incomplete

It was another glorious morning outside. Sunlight streamed through what could be classified as a window in the wall of her cave-like room. She was happy when she woke up. She prepared the tea she always made for herself and a different brew for Yvaine. The past several days she'd taken the tea to her so that her leg would heal faster.

But after showering, dressing and heading to Yvaine's room, she found that the star woman's leg was by some miracle completely healed. She examined the leg herself and was astonished. Yvaine explained about Tonks and the magical ability to heal instantly and Ayla wished that she had a similar power.

Leaving Yvaine, she headed down to the cafe for some breakfast. She settled herself in a booth and a golem made of clay walked over to take her order. She ordered some poached eggs, a ham steak and a nutty bread toast with gooseberry jam. She waited patiently for it to arrive, sipping some cold milk and looking around at the other patrons of the restaurant. When it arrived, she smiled and thanked the golem who promptly turned and left her to her breakfast.

She buttered and jellied her toast, taking a bite out of it. She was still astonished at the idea that she didn't have to go find all this food herself. That it was already prepared was even more strange. She was used to having the hunters provide the meat for her, but she always had to prepare it. And she had to gather grains and roots to supplement their meat supply. For it all to be laid out in front of her with no work on her part other than requesting it, was altogether unnatural.

She hummed slightly under her breath as she ate, still watching the other customers in the cafe under the cover of lowered brows. She had been reprimanded many times by Creb not to stare. But staring in the Clan equaled eavesdropping. She was just observing, but she still didn't want to be caught in case these people also thought it was rude. She lifted her gaze to the door when she saw it open from the corner of her eye.

She recognized the broad, dark-haired man and, after swallowing the mouthful of food, she smiled and lifted a hand to wave.

John had dressed in black jeans, black boots and a tight black tee shirt this morning. He wasn’t a vain man, but he knew he looked good…as he walked, he threw a bit of a strut into his step, when he knew Ayla was watching him; it was important to him what she thought…and Woooooooooooooo boy! Did she look smokin’ this morning!. He was mesmerized as she ran her fingers through her long golden tresses.

“Ahhhhhh…Well, I’ve had a rather confusing few days, but everything seems to be straightened out…”, he chuckled at what seemed to be a private joke, “…and you seem to be even lovelier than when I first met you…”, he sat down and leaned forward, “…now how is that possible, princess?”.

Looking up at the golem, John greeted, “Hey, big fella! Could you bring me three eggs, sunny side up, three sausage links, three pancakes, an order of hash browns, some orange juice and a cup of coffee black”, he winked, “Thanks, Joe!”.

Turning back to Ayla, John rested his chin on his hand and smiled, “If ya gotta be kidnapped by this crazy planet, I can’t imagine a nicer first sight than you as a greeter, Ayla!”. He realized that he was married and a certain amount of guilt did wedge itself uncomfortably into his chest…but the reality was all too clear…they were stranded here and would be here for the rest of their lives. John still loved Aeryn with all of his heart, but did that mean he couldn’t feel something for anyone else…? Aeryn would probably move on…right?

John’s blue eyes sparkled when he spoke to his beautiful companion, “So, Ayla, what did you have planned for the day?”, he wiggled his eyebrows, “I can free up my busy schedule if you aren’t doing anything special”.

Ayla had been forced to learn to read body language. Growing up with the Clan meant that verbal language was of little use. It was one of the reasons she couldn't lie. In the Clan, just by looking at a person's subtle movements, one could tell if they were lying or not. Not only that, but to lie was not even part of her thought process. But, this meant that she could tell when others were lying or hiding something. She could also tell what someone's emotions were, even if their face told a different story.

She could tell from the smile on his face and the way he leaned toward her that John was not only happy to see her, but he was attracted to her as well. This brought a genuinely radiant smile to her face. He was flattering her, but she liked it. Still, she didn't know how to answer the question. However, it had been rhetorical and didn't really require an answer. He was just complimenting her.

She listened to his order, impressed with the amount of food, but knowing that with as big a man as he was, he was probably going to eat it all. When his attention turned to her, she laughed softly. Laughing was something else that she loved to do, but had been frowned upon in the Clan because they were physically incapable of laughing.

She shrugged lightly when he asked what her plans were for the day. "I didn't have anything special in mind. I checked on Yvaine this morning, and she has completely healed, so I don't have any other obligations. What is in your busy schedule, John?" She looked up when the food was brought out for the man across from her and picked up her fork again to continue eating.

"Have you met Yvaine, John? She's a star. I wonder if you ever met when you were traveling among them." Ayla was learning about so many different kinds of people and cultures that it didn't occur to her that these people might not have interacted. And why should she? John traveled among the stars, and Yvaine was a star. It was entirely possible they had run into each other, or been in proximity of each other at one time or another, wasn't it?
