Day 02
Who: Lestat and Tonks
What: Arrival of Lestat de Lioncourt
When: After sundown
Where: The Lake
Rating: at least PG13 for now
Status: COMPLETE

Lestat thought that he loved Akasha, but it was her magnificence he loved…her power…himself reflected in her eyes. Her beauty was beyond compare, but he found that it was a beauty with a very ugly side…a beauty that he must end…and so, when the others moved aside, he took Akasha…without hesitation…without pity. Her blood surged with the heat of ancient majesty and power as it burned through every cell of his undead body… “Stop before their heart stops”, he was taught. It was not so this time. No, this time, Lestat was to be a martyr…the Savior of his kind!

No Lestat…Maharet? Maharet will be our savior? So be it! Lestat stepped aside to let the ancient vampiress end Akasha. Fuck it! He didn’t want to die anyway. There was still plenty to do…Questions that needed answering, concerts to give…but for now, he walked over to Jesse and knelt by her; supporting her head with one hand, he raised his other wrist to his mouth and bit into the underside to get the blood freely flowing…this he placed to the girl’s mouth, feeding her from his body…making her like him…

…and then he was kneeling on a pier that jutted out into a large lake in the middle of nowhere. He stood up and looked around cautiously and then he froze…two moons?! Lestat drew his body up and thrust out his chest. His eyes searched the Heavens. Who dared? Only God or Lucifer surely…

The Auror had finished showing the undoubtedly charismatic Austin around earlier in the day, and she had spent the rest of the afternoon trying to figure out how to ride the large horses that were all over the place. Maybe horseback riding would help her think of a way to escape this stupid place. She hadn't had any ideas so far, and it was starting to bother her. What sort of Auror was she, anyways?

Hours later, she had no new ideas, but she did have a collection of bruises from horseback riding. The damn things had greased backs, she was sure of it. She couldn't seem to stay on, even when they were moving very slowly. Deciding enough was enough, she led the animal she'd been riding, or attempting to ride, back to the stable.

She was surprised how late it was when she left the stables. The sun had just set, and night was approaching. Red, gold, and purple fire still lit up the sky, and Tonks stopped for a moment to look at it. Feeling a little nostalgic for her days when she was back at Hogwarts and the world made some sort of sense, she headed down to the lake. It was a lot like the lake at her former school, only hopefully without the monsters.

First, though, food. It had been a long time since lunch, and the witch did nothing hungry. It wasn't her style. As she walked by the foyer, she saw the box blinking once again. Two in one day? Well, at least now she knew what to do. She collected the key, and headed out into the rapidly darkening night.

She tripped her way down to the lake, figuring that she might as well start off there. She was on alert, her wand ready in her hand, though it was down by her side, not in a threatening position. She looked around, wondering if she should have let someone else collect the new arrival. Wait, what was she thinking? She was a witch. Pulling out her wand, she made herself perfectly visible to anyone around with a quickly uttered light spell.

Prepared now, or at least fairly sure she wouldn't walk right into the lake by accident, the young witch made her way closer to the lake.

"Two moons",Lestat repeated again, in wonder. He was not afraid...nor entirely angry. He looked around. If not for the twin moons, this would resemble the American west. Lestat deLioncourt was perplexed...perplexed and jealous...jealous of the power it took to spirit him away and bring him here like this. Would he meet the being who was able to toy with him in such a manner? He was no mere human, so this being must be extraordinary indeed. He walked an even pace along the pier, his preternatural eyes searching the landscape for his abductor. 'What does this great being want me for?', he pondered, 'What part am I to play in the Grand Scheme of Things?!'.

Lestat's eyes caught movement...on the opposite side of the lake...a being of light! A celestial perhaps? Raising into the air, he levitated over to where this miraculous being awaitd him. Descending in front of the being,Lestat greeted,"Good Evening, Lady of Light. Why have you brought me here?". His pale skin fairly glowed in the dark as he stood there, stripped to the waist, still dressed in the neo-Egyptian clothing favored by Akasha. The half smile he wore faded before the young woman he addressed could even reply to his greeting.

Levitating into the air, Lestat moved sevral feet back from the young woman he'd just addressed,"You didn't bring me here!", he accused, "You don't have that kind of power. Do you...witch?". He squinted his eyes at her and paced back and forth like he was prosecutor in a major case..."What is this Hogwarts and what is an auror?", he asked. "You can tell me or I can find out on my own", he half-grinned, "If I find out on my own, it hurts a wee bit". Walking closer, he licked his lips and asked softly, "Most importantly, my dear, tell me everything you know about how I came to be here and who is responsible".

Well, that was quite the greeting. It was refreshing, in a way, to not have to explain to him what she was. He obviously already knew. She tilted her head to the side and looked at him thoughtfully. Flying through the air, glowing skin, extremely gorgeous... she wasn't an Auror for nothing. But what really made her sure was the fingernails, sort of like glass.

"You are not a wizard, are you? And not a muggle, either. Yeah, that's right, I'm a witch, Hogwarts is where I went to school, and an Auror, well, that's a dark wizard hunter, isn't it? So, as for you, I'm guessing, just on first guess... vampire?"

Her wand, still glowing with a bright light, she held up in front of her. As he walked closer to her, her eyes narrowed at him. Any number of protection spells ran through her head. She wouldn't allow him to hurt her.

"I'll tell you what I know, although if you don't stop being so bloody rude about it, you might not get even what little I've figured out. And stop reading my mind, right now, got it? Maybe muggles don't know how to stop you, but I do."

Lestat's lips parted, revealing his pointed canines, and his eyes took on a feral glow as the witch with the strangely colored hair demanded that he stop reading her mind. With his supernaturally heightened senses and speed he could probably snap her neck or consume her in flames before she blinked, but thatwould be a shameful waste. This woman was no amateur. Lestat arched an eyebrow as he looked her over; he had no doubt that she could back up her threats...he decided that he liked this...what did she call herself? Auror.

Moving closer to the eccentric, yet quite lovely witch, Lestat looked deep into her eyes and smiledhis most charming of smiles, "You are correct, Madame Auror. I am a vampire and if I behaved rudely, I must apologize and plead the case that it is the nature of creatures such as I". He pretended to turn a key at his temple, "No more mind reading, fair lady", he purred.

Using his vampiric speed, he moved to the Auror's opposite side in the blink of an eye, "Unusual hair color, my dear...", he noted softly, taking a strand between two fingers, "...is this your natural color?". He looked at her lips and then up up to her eyes. Letting his eyelids half close, he sighed lightly, "I believe my nearness is making you nervous, dear lady"..., he levitated away several feet where she could see him and smiled, "better?". Leaning back against a pierpost, the brat prince smiled, crossed his arms over his chest and requested, "Now, if you please, tell me who brought me here. Wherehere is? Oh, yes...and what in the devil's name is a 'muggle'?!"

She had some experience with vampires. It was almost inevitable in her line of work. Many dark wizards liked to use the bloodsucking creatures for their own ends, although it was dangerous. Still, this was the first time she'd been this close to a vampire, and it was dangerous and fascinating all at the same time, like a deadly snake coiled to strike.

"Rubbish, I've talked to vampires before, some of them quite lovely, if somewhat prone to stare at one's throat. If you are this way, it's because you are that way, not because vampires are. Take some responsability."

She stood very still as she was fixed with his penetrating gaze, despite her strong words. Realizing she was in danger of becoming enthralled, she forced herself to blink, and to keep her wand arm up, though it tended to want to fall to her side. She tracked him as well as she could, despite his quick movements. Completely hopeless to keep up with him, but she tried her best.

One thing hadn't changed, though, and that was her reaction to anyone asking about, or even looking at, her hair color. It never failed to amuse her. Of course, he'd kind of stolen her punchline, which was annoying, but she could adapt. She was good at adapting.

"Yeah, it's natural, sort of. So, anyways, keep a distance of at least a meter, if you please. I have a bad reaction to having my blood drained, so you probably shouldn't try that, either. Now, let's see... first things first. I have something you will probably need."

She dug in her pocket, pulled out the key to the vampire's room, and tossed it to him with the hand that wasn't clutching her wand.

"I think it would be easiest if you came with me. I'll explain as we go, alright?"

Lestat’s eyes narrowed as she spoke. The woman didn’t really anger him…not really. Perhaps she would have in his mortal life, but he was far above all of that now. He actually found himself quite liking her. From the way that she spoke and held herself he could tell that she wielded some authority in her realm and he was not so foolish to think that the woman couldn’t do him some harm if he let his guard slip.

“Rubbish?!”, Lestat repeated the word in an amused whisper. “Dear Lady, if you think I’ve taken no responsibility, your very beating heart proves you wrong”. In a sinuous movement he placed his hand upon his chest. “I’ve been very responsible and polite, unlike you, Madame”. His eyes watched her every movement, especially her lips and her hands…he would have to move fast if she were to begin to utter a spell or move her wand.

He turned his back and paced away from her and then quickly turned back, “You do not realize you contradict yourself, Lady. These lovely vampires you know. They stare at your throat because they are vampires…not because of who they are. I read minds because it is my dark gift. It is no more than you reading body language”, he bowed, “I am able to stop if requested to do so, as I have”.

Lestat was excited by this witch. He knew women were trouble, especially powerful women…Akasha proved that. He moved closer, “I find it interesting that the English demand civility from those they converse with while offering so little in return, n'est-ce pas?”

Catching his key easily, he smiled and asked, “I don’t suppose our rooms are very close are they?”. With a resigned sigh, he slipped the key into his belt and nodded, “Merci”, he thanked her, and added, “My name, Lady, is Lestat de Lioncourt. Lead and I shall follow”

Tonks gave him a bit of a look, but her natural good humor couldn't be held down for very long, even around a vampire. She ended up laughing, unable to do anything but acknowledge his undoubtedly accurate points. As she walked with him, tripping occaisionally as was her style, she spoke in a much friendlier way. Though, of course, her wand was kept constantly ready. Charming, the vampire undoubtedly was, but that didn't mean she trusted him.

"Fine, you win that round, vampire. Or Lestat, if you prefer... Lestat de Lioncourt, French, I'm guessing?"

This was about as dangerous as anything she'd ever done. Vampires were not something to mess around with at the best of times, and he was unlike any vampire she'd ever met. About a thousand times more compelling, and much more attractive.

"Well, to show not all English people are rude, I'm going to shake your hand. Please don't crush it."

She turned to him and offered her hand in a handshake, to encourage a more formal introduction. It made her nervous, touching a vampire, but then, he had had a point about her being rude. She was usually much more polite, and was determined to make it up to him.

"My name's Tonks, Lestat, and though it's a little weird to meet you, it's also kind of interesting, isn't it?"

This woman was definitely unpredictable...a puzzle…and Lestat liked puzzles. He expected anger or an argument from her. Many in authority, not just the English, that wouldn't be fair...the Americans as well...hated to have their words or authority challenged and here was this perplexing 'Auror', and an English one at that, conceding the point that she may have been rude to him. Then, to throw him totally off, she laughs..."Fine, you win that round, vampire"., she said to him. A ghost of a smile past over Lestat's face and he mused, If I've won anything, that delightful laugh was my prize.

"I was French at one time, Dear Lady, but now, I like to think of myself as a citizen of the world", he repled to her inquiry, "Pleased call me Lestat".

He watched her movements with great interest. She was struggling with a decision...he was tempted to read her mind, but something held him back. Mon Dieu! I think I must respect this woman! I am honoring my word. He would wait and see what she was going to do. This not reading minds was infuriating. Itwas like having a limb removed.

She offered him her hand. Would wonders never cease? She made physical contact with him of her own volition. Cocking an eyebrow, Lestat bowed low and cradled her hand in his palm as gently as if he were catching a feather...then, with his eyes looking deeply into hers, he caressed the back of her hand with a kiss, his lips brushing the skin as lightly as the flutter of butterfly wings, "Enchanté", he purred.

Letting the lovely witch retrieve her hand he smiled when she introduced herself and commented on their meeting. "Tonks", he repeated, "Tonks...", he repeated it again softly, looking at her, "I like it. It suits you and, yes, I believe our meeting is nothing if not weird and interesting...and maybe even...", he tilted his head, "...nice".

She was having the weirdest day. First Austin, and now Lestat, and the sheltered young witch wasn't sure what to do. Though she was an adult, and an Auror, wizard culture was somewhat behind the times, and she was really much more inexperienced than most women of her age would have been, at least with things like this.

The pink-haried witch had to admit, though, as she looked down at the vampire kissing her hand, it wasn't entirely unpleasant. Confusing, yes, but, just as he said... maybe even nice. She could see, though, that he was going to challenge her understand of vampires, and probably, just in general, of people, too. He was different from anyone she'd known before, muggle, wizard, witch, or vampire.

"Thanks, I like your name, too. Right, then, Lestat, I think we'd better get going... I have to much to tell you, and to be honest, I don't know that you're going to like all of it. Just don't shoot the messanger, alright?"

She looked at the unpredictable vampire somewhat uneasily, wondering suddenly how he was going to react to the news she had. Maybe it would be better to let the plaque explain it. He could probably do a lot less damage to it than to her. Turning around and promptly almost tripping over a stick on the ground, she gestured with her hand towards where she was pretty sure the buildings were.

Lestat enjoyed walking with Tonks as they headed for this tablet she spoke of…she was a living contradiction that he found curious and delightful. A powerful witch that was neither scary nor boastful…and she even had trouble keeping her balance it seemed, but the vampire didn’t doubt her power or intelligence for one moment; he loved the eccentric and she certainly was.

Enjoying the night air and the light of the twin moons, he made conversation, “So, this ‘Hogwarts’ is a university for wizards and witches, you say?”, you could see the wheels turning in Lestat’s mind, “Perhaps there should be a school for newly turned vampires…”, he looked at her and then laughed at himself, “Sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it, but there’s a lot an older vampire can teach these young blood suckers”. He walked a few steps in silence and then spoke softly, “My sire taught me nothing”.

As they neared the buildings, the vampire grew interested, “I can feel the souls inside…a great many, Tonks. That’s good. Now, where is this tablet?”. He followed her to the center of the resort and he read the tablet. He stood before it for quite a long time…frozen, as if he were a statue. He contemplated these words over and over…he was a vampire and he was being told two things…Your every need will be fulfilled and You will not kill. Ever.. These two things swirled around and around in his mind and somehow failed to mesh. He turned to Tonks and smiled, “So, lovely Lady, I believe we are birds in a gilded cage”, he twirled a lock of her hair around one of his pale fingers, “You would be a flamingo”, he teased, giving her a wink.

Pressing his lips to her hand once more, he bid her goodnight and thanked her for her help, “I should certainly like to see you again if that would be acceptable with the Lady?”, inquired before leaving.

Lestat had a mission before he went to his room…he would corner one of those damned assistants mentioned in the tablet and get some answers!

"No, not a university. A school, just like many in Britian. Seven years, starting at the age of around eleven, and going to seventeen."

Some wizards and witches would be horrified that she was speaking so casually of Hogwarts, but it wasn't like anyone non-magical could find it. Besides, she wasn't even on the same world anymore. She trusted her instincts, in general, and was fairly certain that speaking on her former school could do nothing. She even elaborated.

"You go to Hogwarts, or to another magic school, and then you go into further training. For me, obviously, it was the Ministry of Magic's Auror training program. Now, I hunt dark wizards, and fight against the minions of You-Know-Who." The witch frowned as she turned to look at the charismatic vampire. "Only, of course, you don't know who, do you? Well, anyways, that's about it."

Wondering just why she'd told a good chunk of her life story to the vampire, she frowned softly and was silent as he read the tablet. She blinked when he spoke to her and touched a strand of her brilliant hair, and gave him a grin that was typical of her.

"I never thought of it that way, but we are? You are, then, some sort of eagle. A beautiful hunting bird. And I, well, I can be any sort of bird I want, can't I?"

Her hair went from the darkest black to the brightest gold and then settled back into the pink color she clearly prefered. She was still blushing a little from the comment she'd made about him being an eagle. Really, quite unlike her.

"Yeah, Lestat, I kinda liked talking to you. Maybe we could meet sometime in the next few days? You can let me know. I'm in room E 102, if you need anything, or just want to drop by."

She yawned and stretched. She, herself, was tired. She'd met two new people today, found herself stupidly attracted to both of them, and also tried to learn how to horseback ride. She was exhausted, and knew she would go straight to her bed and probably sleep right away. Or maybe see about redecorating... pink was lovely, but she was thinking maybe to try purple or blue, next. The thought brought a smile to her lips.
