What?: Pheromone Extravaganza
Where?: The Lake
When? Day Seven; Early Afternoon- just after lunch
Rating: PG
Status: Complete

Katara felt a little bit sore when she awoke that day. The training session with Xena had been tougher on her than she thought. Then again, the waterbender hadn’t exactly taken precautions before the work-out and stretched or anything. All in all, the soreness was pleasant. It meant she had been productive instead of sitting around doing nothing.

Instead of dressing in her customary Water Tribe ensemble, she decided to wear something else. Ever since Aang, Sokka, Toph, and Katara had stolen Fire Nation clothes to disguise themselves, she had enjoyed the look; however, she rarely wore it because she enjoyed showing her heritage.

The femme donned a cropped red top with gold trim that revealed her flat belly, and a red skirt, with attached pants of a darker shade of red, both of which had gold trim. Katara couldn’t help, but to keep wearing her mother’s necklace because she loved it so much. This time she decided to leave her hair down, though she did slip beads onto two strands and tied them together at the back of her head.

After she was ready, she went to the kitchens to eat a fruit filled breakfast of berries. Once she’d finished she decided to check out the library she’d happened upon the other day.

Preferring to learn about truthful things opposed to fiction, Katara searched through the non-fiction section of the library. There were shelves upon shelves of books. It may not have been as vastly huge as Wan Shi Tong’s Library, but there were books here that the knowledge spirit didn’t have. The owl had only had what his Knowledge Seekers could find, and the foxes couldn’t find things in her world that were here because this was a combination of many worlds and times.

What Katara truly wanted was to find a way back to her home world, but the Planet didn’t seem to have any knowledge of the way this world really worked. There was a book that said something about how the Mirage would change into different kinds of resorts. Right now it was a dude ranch resort, she learned. Dude ranches existed in her world by different names, but they were as pampered as this one. Normally they were just used as farms. The idea that it would change was endearing. A new environment would prove to be some interest. Then again, if it changed all the time it would be more difficult to come up with a solid plan of escape. With a sigh she continued her research.

After quite a while of reading, a grumble from her stomach signaled lunch time. Because it seemed Katara would have all the time in the world to continue her research, she stood. With a passing glance at the generous piles of books she had acquired, the waterbender left the library, feeling only slightly guilty about not putting them back. It was simply another show of contempt for the Planet, despite the fact that she knew it wouldn’t be hard for it to put a few books away.

Wanting a good lunch, Katara went to the restaurant for a meal. She ordered noodles with teriyaki chicken-pig. To drink she ordered green tea. Her meal was simple, but filling and tasty. After that she decided to go outside and practice her bending. If she got rusty, she would be very unhappy with herself. Even though she didn’t seem to need it now, she might need it later to escape, or if she was propelled back into her world. The latter was an futile dream, but even knowing that didn’t make it go away.

When she stepped outside, the Water Tribe femme thought the air smelled a bit strange, as if too many strong smelling flowers were bunched up near by. Maybe she would get used to it.  With a shrug, she continued toward the lake.

Once she was there, she decided she’d rather stand in the lake to bend, than outside it. It felt more comfortable that way, more natural. Besides, maybe the too-sweet scent in the air wouldn’t be as strong there.

Katara removed her clothes and shoes, revealing her underwear- though this wasn’t nearly as risqué as modern undies. It consisted of white fabric that wrapped around her chest, and another piece that wrapped around her lower body to her knees.  She walked into the water until her legs were submerged to her shins.

The waterbender warmed up by pushing and pulling the water with smooth, slow movements. Eventually she built them up to smaller waves, moving separately from the waves caused by the natural currents of the lake. Eventually these turned into large waves. Once the waves were shoulder height, she had one swirl around her until she was completely surrounded by a wall of water. With another movement the wall broke apart into eight separate sections of water, which she then used to lash out in different directions. The octopus form wasn’t a difficult move for her, but she always wanted to absolutely perfect it, so she continued controlling all eight limbs at once. Eventually she would move on to a larger number of limbs.

Katara felt a wave of sadness rush over her as Miguel admitted he really wouldn’t be missed by anyone in his home, and he wouldn’t really miss anyone else. She couldn’t imagine not having anyone who would worry about her, or anyone about whom she would worry. What kind of life must he have led that would be so devoid of compassion and love? The compassionate, motherly part of her wanted to comfort him and make him feel like someone really cared, but she didn’t even know him. The waterbender had only just met this man, so what could she really have to offer him in that area? She placed a hand on his arm. “I hope you find someone here who also wants to stay that you can truly say you would miss if they left, and vice versa.” She said with a small smile.

“I imagine it would get a little boring here if you were the only one left after helping the others escape, but I bet if you want to stay here you aren’t alone in that desire.” Katara couldn’t bring herself to argue with him about helping her escape right now. If he thought he really wanted to risk himself by helping, that was his problem. How many times had she and Sokka stuck by Aang’s side when he said he wanted to do dangerous things alone? Who was she to play the role of a hypocrite and deny him?

When she returned to his side after reclothing herself, a light blush rose to her cheeks at his comment. “Thank you.” Katara spoke a bit bashfully. How could anyone not miss such a sweet person? It was so strange to her.

It occurred to the young woman that others had been involved in activities, though she probably should have realized it sooner. Were all people here supposed to do different activities? “Me? Let’s see… I was greeted by a boy who seemed really nice. During the activities I had to bowl with a singer, a writer, an incredibly strong boy, and an aspiring healer… er… doctor who I met again the following day. I met a man who told me he’s an effective gambler, and a warrior woman who trained me a little on using a staff. What did you do for the activity day?”

After he told her Katara thought a moment. “I just realized that I really haven’t explored around outside, and I’ve been here almost a week. I mostly just perused the main building inside. Have you been around outside much? Would you like to go exploring with me out here?”
