Day 7
Who: Bones and Ace
What: Bleeding Love
When: Early Afternoonish
Where: Courtyard, to start
Rating: TBD
Status: Complete

Bones had spent her second day holed up in her room slash lab. She didn't want to give anyone anything to observe. But if there were cameras in her room somewhere, it didn't make a bit of difference if she stayed there or went outside. So, this morning, she had decided that being observed or not, she was going to try to figure out where she was, and why she'd been brought here.

She showered, put on a fresh set of clothes. Clothes that were her style, and filled her drawers and closet. She didn't know where they'd come from, but her rebellion didn't extend to being dirty and wearing clothes two days in a row. She left her hair down, knowing that today was probably not going to produce any work for her. Wearing an outfit she might wear if she went out on a dig, jeans and a tanktop and hiking shoes, she exited her room.

She wasn't exactly sure where to start, but she figured that the plaque she'd been shown the first day was as good as anything. She walked down the hall, down the stairs and out of the building. She was almost thrown back by the sensation that hit her as soon as she inhaled. She blinked rapidly and shook her head like she'd just been struck in the face with a bat.

She could smell something faintly on the air, but it didn't register as anything odd. But she was starting to feel ... good. And it was strange considering she'd left her room in a rather irritated mood. She shook it off and headed for the courtyard where the plaque had been. She wanted to re-read it and try to make some sense of the situation.

She rounded the corner of the building and came face to face with another woman. "Sorry." She glanced into her face, blue eyes meeting her own and smiled. And then it happened, that gut wrenching feeling of love. What the hell?

"Tempe." Ace repeated and smiled, amused by her blush and fidgeting. She nodded slightly at mention of re-reading the plague. Seemed like as good a plan as any. She'd barely spared it a glance when she'd first arrived, so another look couldn't hurt. Maybe she'd missed something...

The brunette followed, falling in step with Bones casually, and resisting the urge to take hold of her hand each time their fingers brushed. She wasn't even the hand holding type, and while she did read the plaque quickly, mostly she just watched Bones. Finding it just as hard to concentrate on anything else. "For the most part. It's nothing new for me...Was transported to another planet when I was sixteen by a time storm." She shrugged, it was more an inconvenience then a real surprise to her, and with the Doctor around Ace wasn't really all that worried.

"Where did it take you from?" Ace asked, not so much concerned about the planet and getting off of it as she was interested in Temperance. She'd worried about the other things since arriving, and no doubt had plenty of time to continue trying to figure out a way off this rock later. "I was coming from London." Technically, she hadn't actually gotten there, being in the vortex, but it was close enough.

Bones couldn't figure out why she'd told the woman she could call her Tempe. Only her father and her brother ever called her that. Angela called her sweetie, Hodgins, Zack and Cam all called her Brennan, Booth called her Bones, and everyone else called her Dr. Brennan. No one called her Temperance and she had tired of telling Booth to stop calling her Bones long ago and reluctantly answered to it now.

But, when the woman repeated it, she realized that she had made a good decision in letting her call her that. She liked the way it sounded from her lips. When their hands brushed, her fingers flexed and tingled. And when they stood reading the plaque together, it was all she could do to get through it. Even after she finished, she couldn't remember half of what it said.

She failed to understand what Ace was talking about when she said that being stolen from her life was nothing new and that she had been transported when she was a teenager. At fifteen, Tempe had been abandoned by her parents. But it wasn't nearly the same thing. Only that they had both been taken from their families. Still, time travel didn't exist in Tempe's world and she was quite certain the woman was kidding. And considering this idea, she didn't question her.

"It." She was having trouble believing that an "it" had taken her. That a sentient planet had wanted her here and merely stolen her from her own life. She shook it off and answered the question as if she had asked only where she was from. "Washington D.C." And then she nodded in response to her own origin as if she had expected her to say that. Her accent did give it away some.

"I know. Living planet thing kind of hard to swallow....Not sure I totally believe that bit." Ace still suspected that there was something more then the planet behind the whole kidnapping people -- She half expected some psycho to show up any moment, and declare themselves ruler or something. That aside, she was mildly surprised there were no questions, especially at her comment about the time-storm. Chances were the other didn't believe her, which was fine, most didn't.

"Haven't been there. Maybe when we get off this rock I can give you a lift back, and you can show me the sights." Ace was always up for some place new, and with Bones to show her around would make it all the better, no doubt. After a moment she glanced around, at some point shoving her hands in her pockets to stop that lingering desire to grasp her hand every time their fingers drifted to close, and tried to recall what there was around here to do. Standing in the courtyard and talking was all well and good, but it be easier if they were someplace where they could sit and relax.

"Would you like to get a drink?" Ace suggested after a second. "There is a coffee bar just down that way." Maybe not her ideal date, but it would do. "You can tell me about yourself, and we can see how long I can keep myself from kissing you." She said with a small grin as she turned to lead the way to the coffee bar, the second comment - Honestly, it had crossed her mind almost immediately after they met, and was steadily moving up on her list of things to do.

Now the woman was making a little more sense. "A lift back to D.C. sounds wonderful." She sounded relieved. Someone was actually talking rationally. She conveniently forgot that earlier she'd been talking about being lost in some time storm. "There is a lot to see in D.C. I think you would like it there. I'd love to show you around." She gave her a cheery smile.

"Coffee sounds good, sure. Let's go." She brushed her arm against Ace's as they turned away from the tablet to head into the building. One thing Brennan didn't mind, was talking about herself. That would be fairly easy. But she would have a difficult time keeping her eyes off the brunette beauty.

Even while they walked, she stared at her. She had to restrain herself from putting an arm around her, touching her in some way. She was not used to blatant flirting such as Ace was currently using. Her jaw almost dropped when Ace mentioned seeing how long she could keep herself from kissing her. As appealing as that was, it was still frightening. Bones was straight! She wasn't attracted to girls.

But apparently, her whole adult life had been a lie. Because she was clearly attracted to Ace.

Ace eventually pulled one hand from her pocket, lacing her fingers with Temperance's while they walked because quite simply, it seemed to her they were both itching to do something so surely holding the woman's hand would be easiest. That and it wasn't quite so forward as kissing her minutes after they'd just met. "It's cute. The confused straight girl thing." She said, chuckling softly. Ace was hardly an expert, but she recognized the signs when she saw them.

"Never fancy another woman before?" The brunette asked, holding the door open to the cafe, and motioning towards a small booth. She slid down the seat and patted the spot beside her lightly. It hadn't been the topic she had intended on starting with. What do you do for a living, or something simple like that had been the plan. It was good enough though, and probably a lot more interesting. As for her, she'd never had a specific preference. Male or female, human or alien. She saw no reason to limit herself.

The natural way with which Ace took her hand seemed so right, and she curled her fingers into the twined embrace. Electric currents seemed to Brennan to zap between their palms. The simplest touch was so stimulating. She'd never experienced anything like it before. Brennan had the audacity to blush, and deep down it angered her because she never blushed. "I'm definitely confused." She spoke in a hushed whisper.

"No, actually. I'm usually quite attracted to men. I don't recall ever "fancying" a woman." And that was the most confusing part of it all. How could she go years and years feeling physical attraction only to the opposite sex, to find that today of all days, she was attracted to a woman? It didn't make sense at all. But, as an anthropologist, she knew that attraction was not gender-based. Even the cromagnon man had sometimes been inclined toward the same sex.

She stepped into the cafe ahead of Ace and slipped into the booth beside her. She lifted her elbow onto the table and looked over at Ace, chestnut hair fall into her eyes before she brushed it behind her ears. "You don't seem too startled or confused by the obvious attraction we have for each other." Tempe had never been one to beat around the bush. She was straightforward and blunt, to a fault, usually.

"First for everything right?" The brunette offered, knowing it really didn't explain anything, and that it wasn't just her animal magnetism that had attracted Bones (unfortunately). Joke -- She wasn't that egotistical. "It's nice though, being with a woman. When it works -- it's just the break ups that make it hell." Ace gave a sheepish sort of chuckle, knowing from experience.

Sitting beside Bones, she'd been somewhat disappointed that the other had pushed her hair back, as it would have given her an excuse to reach out...She shook the thought away as Tempe spoke again. "Takes a lot to startle me." She replied with a slight shrug of her shoulders. "As for the obvious attraction...I'm more then happy to just go with it." Ace didn't mind her being straightforward -- it always made things easier, and a bit of a turn on if she was honest. Got to love a woman who gets to the point.

"Does it bother you?" Ace asked, leaving the question open to mean did it bother her, liking another woman, having that woman be Ace in particular, and/or knowing that it wasn't entirely under their control. If any of it did Ace would like to think that she would back off, respect the other's discomfort with the whole situation, but she couldn't say for sure that she could. It was rare she felt this strongly about anyone, and never so quickly.

"Apparently, yes." She regarded the brunette for a moment before she replied to the latter part of her statement. "I've found that most break-ups are hell. But all mine have been with men who couldn't accept my superior intellect and felt intimidated by my career." She hadn't ever considered what a break up with a woman would be like. She supposed, if they were as irrational as men, and more prone to their emotions, then it would probably be more difficult. The men she'd had in her life usually moved on well, other than returning to take back a television here and there. But there had usually been no hard feelings, just wounded pride.

"I work with corpses and bones, usually it takes a lot to startle me. But I suppose feelings are different. I'm not very good with my feelings." Why was she admitting this to a perfect stranger? She was usually so closeted. She never offered anything about herself willingly. Only if she felt it would gain her something, like some information about the other. Perhaps that was the underlying reason. She wanted Ace to offer up something of herself in return.

Instead, she asked a question. "Yes, quite frankly. You are a very attractive woman, and admittedly the first woman I've found so attractive. But my best friend Angela, is beautiful. I never felt anything for her like I am feeling for you. It doesn't seem right." Bones did feel out of control. She was also slightly angry. But, the pheramones had infected her through and through, and she couldn't bring herself to stay angry when she looked at Ace.

She sighed softly and lifted her hand for a golem, signaling that she wanted to order some coffee. When the clay man came over, she looked up. "I'd like a Venti Mocha Frappuccino." She turned to Ace after completing her order to wait while she she told him what she wanted and the golem walked away to fill it.

"Bones and corpses, bad with feelings -- you're making yourself sound a bit antisocial, Tempe." She said, lightly teasing before she continued. "Why? Feelings are supposed to be easy." Ace never really had a problem with feelings, especially not when it came to attraction and that sort. Not to say she was an emotional sort of person, she could be very reserved sometimes, typically when she was depressed or hurt...Never when she cared about someone though.

As for offering information about herself...Well, if Bones asked her a specific question she probably wouldn't lie, but otherwise she had a habit of trying to steer the conversation away from herself. Mostly because everything about her life was generally unbelievable to the average person. People typically assumed she was crazy or lying when she was honest, and that was hardly the way to make a good impression.

"She's your best friend though. I've had friends who were right good looking, but couldn't imagine ever being attracted to them. Besides, its not like emotions are the most rational thing in the world." Ace replied, gaze remaining on Temperance as she wave the golem off saying simply that she'd have the same thing.

"No, I'm not antisocial. I'm just better at reading the bones of people than the actual person. I like being around people. I'm around people every day." She was quick to defend herself, as usual. It didn't matter if she was teasing, it was hitting too close to home for her comfort. "Not for me." There was a reason Tempe was the way she was. She hated psychology, it was a soft science, and she didn't understand it. But everyone tried to diagnose her.

She looked up again when the golem brought their drinks to the table. The frozen blended drink smelled good with the whipped cream topping it. She took a sip. Swallowing, she returned her attention to Ace. "I've encountered several beautiful women I didn't have a relationship with. Strangers, like yourself. I've never felt an attraction to any of them." She took another sip, sitting back in the booth.

She was upset, not at being attracted to Ace, but at the idea that she had no control over the attraction, and that this was the first time it had happened to her. It was unnerving. What Ace said about emotions was true. "But, I'm a rational person." Brennan prided herself on that. She was the one who could remove herself from the situation and look at it with an outside perspective.

This was the most stimulating conversation Bones had participated in since her arrival. Not that Miguel had been boring, but she had just arrived and hadn't been able to fully concentrate on the conversation as much as the influx of information. She smiled slightly. "I'm sorry. I am not trying to say that being attracted to you is a bad thing. It's just new to me."

Without the appearance of hesitation, Bones leaned toward Ace and pressed her lips against hers. She was shocked that she'd not only had the audacity, but that she had acted on the strange attraction she felt for the fellow woman. She pulled back slightly, to gauge her own reaction and that of the other woman. Her heartbeat quickened and she smiled again. It had felt good, and she was willing to give into the base desire. There was no logical reason not to.

She nodded slightly, deciding just to accept what the other said, and not question it. Bit of a touchy subject, she supposed, and not her place to pry. If Brennen had wanted to know more she would've said so, right? Ace took her own drink, looking at it curiously. As odd as it may seem, she'd never actually had Starbucks before or anything like the frappuccino, not a big coffee drinker in general. Not to mention she generally spent time in eras before the chain and drink were created, or long afterwards where there were more interesting things to do then sit around in coffee shops.

"Yeah...but somethings are just out of your control." She took a sip of the cold drink, and deciding they were pretty good before setting it back down. "Emotions are one of them. Especially not when they are being --" Ace paused to think of the right word; manipulated sounded too sinister for something encouraging love, and enhanced just wasn't right either..." -- Influenced." Good enough.

The brunette smiled back, and gave a small shake of her head at the apology. "No need to be sorry, gorgeous. I underst --" Ace was cut off as Tempe's lips met her own. It caught her off guard, but that was hardly a bad thing. She quickly forgot what she'd been saying, letting an arm snake around Bones' waist to pull her closer before she broke the kiss. Judging her reaction wouldn't be too hard either, as she promptly leaned forward to steal another kiss. Couldn't let her think that last one was the best she could do, having been surprised the first go.
