Day 7
Who: Bones and Ace
What: Bleeding Love
When: Early Afternoonish
Where: Courtyard, to start
Rating: TBD
Status: Complete

Bones had spent her second day holed up in her room slash lab. She didn't want to give anyone anything to observe. But if there were cameras in her room somewhere, it didn't make a bit of difference if she stayed there or went outside. So, this morning, she had decided that being observed or not, she was going to try to figure out where she was, and why she'd been brought here.

She showered, put on a fresh set of clothes. Clothes that were her style, and filled her drawers and closet. She didn't know where they'd come from, but her rebellion didn't extend to being dirty and wearing clothes two days in a row. She left her hair down, knowing that today was probably not going to produce any work for her. Wearing an outfit she might wear if she went out on a dig, jeans and a tanktop and hiking shoes, she exited her room.

She wasn't exactly sure where to start, but she figured that the plaque she'd been shown the first day was as good as anything. She walked down the hall, down the stairs and out of the building. She was almost thrown back by the sensation that hit her as soon as she inhaled. She blinked rapidly and shook her head like she'd just been struck in the face with a bat.

She could smell something faintly on the air, but it didn't register as anything odd. But she was starting to feel ... good. And it was strange considering she'd left her room in a rather irritated mood. She shook it off and headed for the courtyard where the plaque had been. She wanted to re-read it and try to make some sense of the situation.

She rounded the corner of the building and came face to face with another woman. "Sorry." She glanced into her face, blue eyes meeting her own and smiled. And then it happened, that gut wrenching feeling of love. What the hell?

Ace had woken early -- nearly the crack of dawn -- and had gone out to run. It had been habit when she'd been in training for the Spacefleet, and afterwards became an easy way to relax that didn't include blowing things up. She'd even found the pool and swam a few laps before going back to her room to shower and change into some normal clothes. Normal clothes being her blue jeans, an old Happy Mondays band shirt, and utility belt (for lack of a better way to describe it). The later being something she never went without, and especially not when she had left the weapons normally strapped to her wrist and belt behind. After all, safe as this planet may appear to be, she wasn't about to take any chances. The soldier hadn't lasted this long by not being cautious, and she could hardly be expected to trust a planet or any of the people it kidnapped?

During her run and swim she'd been lucky not to cross paths with anyone -- mostly because she doubted anyone was up that early. However, she had spent a good deal of time breathing in the tainted air. So when she rounded the corner to leave the courtyard that afternoon and caught sight of Bones all those pheromones struck, forcing a smile and bringing up all kinds of feelings that as nice as they were she new should not be directed at some stranger.

A rather nice stranger. Beautiful, in fact. Actually, after Ace took a second glance the smile became less forced, and however sudden these feelings were, she decided that at least they were well directed. "Don't be." She said, waving off the apology casually. "You're the best thing to happen to me all day."

Okay, so she probably could've tried to come up with something better then that, but it had been a while since she'd tried to chat up another woman -- or anyone for that matter. "Ace." The brunette introduced with a mock bow. "Who might you be?"

Bones quirked a half smile at the compliment. "You must have been doing something pretty awful before I came along then." She laughed, slightly embarrassed. She couldn't figure out why this woman gave her the squishy butterflies in her stomach. Every time she'd felt something like that, it was for a man. And come to think of it, she hadn't ever really felt that.

"Dr. Temperance Brennan. Ace, huh? I like it. I love it, actually. Simple, to the point." Babbling. Never something that had been a problem for the antropologist. Well, unless one counted rambling on about forensics. She had been distracted by the beauty in front of her and had completely lost sight of what she had been doing earlier.

"Uh, where were you headed?" Normally, Brennan was a lot more eloquent. She was, however, very confused by the sudden onset of feelings she was experiencing and could do nothing more than stutter and try to make some semblance of sense. Tempe rubbed one of her own arms because if she didn't do something, she would likely reach over and rub the other's arm.

"You're too modest. It's not every day I run into a beautiful woman like you." She said, putting on one of her best smiles, even chuckling slightly as the other began to ramble a bit about her name. It was cute. Of course, it was likely she'd find anything the other did appealing.

"Glad you like it, Temperance. Yours is a bit of a mouthful, I'll admit, but pretty all the same." The effects of the pheromones may have made Bones a bit less eloquent then usual, Ace on the other hand became a lot less rough then she usually was. That was typically how it went with her though. When she fancied a woman, Ace did her best not to act like a street rat.

"No where in particular...You want some company where ever your headed, by any chance?" She asked hopefully, wanting to get to know Temperance better. Ace knew this wasn't all on the up and up, but went along with it all the same.

Was she blushing? Bones never blushed! It wasn't who she was. She was a rational being. And blushing was irrational. But the compliment from Ace was making her flush and duck her head a bit.

"It is a mouthful, isn't it? You can call me Tempe if that's easier for you." She smiled crookedly and drew her hand through her hair. Why was she so fidgety? She couldn't understand why this was happening to her. Her best friend, Angela, was one of the most beautiful women she knew, but she never had feelings for her like she was experiencing now.

"I was ah..." She had forgotten what she had been going to do before she ran into Ace, but it suddenly came back to her. "...just going to re-read the plaque. I'm trying to figure out how I got here and how I'm going to get out. I'd love your company if you want to come along." She flashed a nervous smile and lifted a shoulder.

She walked around the corner Ace had just turned and found the offending plaque set into the wall there. She sighed as she re-read it, but she was having a difficult time concentrating with Ace nearby. "Do you believe this?" She gestured toward the plaque, sincerely wanting to know what Ace thought about it.

"Tempe." Ace repeated and smiled, amused by her blush and fidgeting. She nodded slightly at mention of re-reading the plague. Seemed like as good a plan as any. She'd barely spared it a glance when she'd first arrived, so another look couldn't hurt. Maybe she'd missed something...

The brunette followed, falling in step with Bones casually, and resisting the urge to take hold of her hand each time their fingers brushed. She wasn't even the hand holding type, and while she did read the plaque quickly, mostly she just watched Bones. Finding it just as hard to concentrate on anything else. "For the most part. It's nothing new for me...Was transported to another planet when I was sixteen by a time storm." She shrugged, it was more an inconvenience then a real surprise to her, and with the Doctor around Ace wasn't really all that worried.

"Where did it take you from?" Ace asked, not so much concerned about the planet and getting off of it as she was interested in Temperance. She'd worried about the other things since arriving, and no doubt had plenty of time to continue trying to figure out a way off this rock later. "I was coming from London." Technically, she hadn't actually gotten there, being in the vortex, but it was close enough.

Bones couldn't figure out why she'd told the woman she could call her Tempe. Only her father and her brother ever called her that. Angela called her sweetie, Hodgins, Zack and Cam all called her Brennan, Booth called her Bones, and everyone else called her Dr. Brennan. No one called her Temperance and she had tired of telling Booth to stop calling her Bones long ago and reluctantly answered to it now.

But, when the woman repeated it, she realized that she had made a good decision in letting her call her that. She liked the way it sounded from her lips. When their hands brushed, her fingers flexed and tingled. And when they stood reading the plaque together, it was all she could do to get through it. Even after she finished, she couldn't remember half of what it said.

She failed to understand what Ace was talking about when she said that being stolen from her life was nothing new and that she had been transported when she was a teenager. At fifteen, Tempe had been abandoned by her parents. But it wasn't nearly the same thing. Only that they had both been taken from their families. Still, time travel didn't exist in Tempe's world and she was quite certain the woman was kidding. And considering this idea, she didn't question her.

"It." She was having trouble believing that an "it" had taken her. That a sentient planet had wanted her here and merely stolen her from her own life. She shook it off and answered the question as if she had asked only where she was from. "Washington D.C." And then she nodded in response to her own origin as if she had expected her to say that. Her accent did give it away some.

"I know. Living planet thing kind of hard to swallow....Not sure I totally believe that bit." Ace still suspected that there was something more then the planet behind the whole kidnapping people -- She half expected some psycho to show up any moment, and declare themselves ruler or something. That aside, she was mildly surprised there were no questions, especially at her comment about the time-storm. Chances were the other didn't believe her, which was fine, most didn't.

"Haven't been there. Maybe when we get off this rock I can give you a lift back, and you can show me the sights." Ace was always up for some place new, and with Bones to show her around would make it all the better, no doubt. After a moment she glanced around, at some point shoving her hands in her pockets to stop that lingering desire to grasp her hand every time their fingers drifted to close, and tried to recall what there was around here to do. Standing in the courtyard and talking was all well and good, but it be easier if they were someplace where they could sit and relax.

"Would you like to get a drink?" Ace suggested after a second. "There is a coffee bar just down that way." Maybe not her ideal date, but it would do. "You can tell me about yourself, and we can see how long I can keep myself from kissing you." She said with a small grin as she turned to lead the way to the coffee bar, the second comment - Honestly, it had crossed her mind almost immediately after they met, and was steadily moving up on her list of things to do.

Now the woman was making a little more sense. "A lift back to D.C. sounds wonderful." She sounded relieved. Someone was actually talking rationally. She conveniently forgot that earlier she'd been talking about being lost in some time storm. "There is a lot to see in D.C. I think you would like it there. I'd love to show you around." She gave her a cheery smile.

"Coffee sounds good, sure. Let's go." She brushed her arm against Ace's as they turned away from the tablet to head into the building. One thing Brennan didn't mind, was talking about herself. That would be fairly easy. But she would have a difficult time keeping her eyes off the brunette beauty.

Even while they walked, she stared at her. She had to restrain herself from putting an arm around her, touching her in some way. She was not used to blatant flirting such as Ace was currently using. Her jaw almost dropped when Ace mentioned seeing how long she could keep herself from kissing her. As appealing as that was, it was still frightening. Bones was straight! She wasn't attracted to girls.

But apparently, her whole adult life had been a lie. Because she was clearly attracted to Ace.

Ace eventually pulled one hand from her pocket, lacing her fingers with Temperance's while they walked because quite simply, it seemed to her they were both itching to do something so surely holding the woman's hand would be easiest. That and it wasn't quite so forward as kissing her minutes after they'd just met. "It's cute. The confused straight girl thing." She said, chuckling softly. Ace was hardly an expert, but she recognized the signs when she saw them.

"Never fancy another woman before?" The brunette asked, holding the door open to the cafe, and motioning towards a small booth. She slid down the seat and patted the spot beside her lightly. It hadn't been the topic she had intended on starting with. What do you do for a living, or something simple like that had been the plan. It was good enough though, and probably a lot more interesting. As for her, she'd never had a specific preference. Male or female, human or alien. She saw no reason to limit herself.

The natural way with which Ace took her hand seemed so right, and she curled her fingers into the twined embrace. Electric currents seemed to Brennan to zap between their palms. The simplest touch was so stimulating. She'd never experienced anything like it before. Brennan had the audacity to blush, and deep down it angered her because she never blushed. "I'm definitely confused." She spoke in a hushed whisper.

"No, actually. I'm usually quite attracted to men. I don't recall ever "fancying" a woman." And that was the most confusing part of it all. How could she go years and years feeling physical attraction only to the opposite sex, to find that today of all days, she was attracted to a woman? It didn't make sense at all. But, as an anthropologist, she knew that attraction was not gender-based. Even the cromagnon man had sometimes been inclined toward the same sex.

She stepped into the cafe ahead of Ace and slipped into the booth beside her. She lifted her elbow onto the table and looked over at Ace, chestnut hair fall into her eyes before she brushed it behind her ears. "You don't seem too startled or confused by the obvious attraction we have for each other." Tempe had never been one to beat around the bush. She was straightforward and blunt, to a fault, usually.

"First for everything right?" The brunette offered, knowing it really didn't explain anything, and that it wasn't just her animal magnetism that had attracted Bones (unfortunately). Joke -- She wasn't that egotistical. "It's nice though, being with a woman. When it works -- it's just the break ups that make it hell." Ace gave a sheepish sort of chuckle, knowing from experience.

Sitting beside Bones, she'd been somewhat disappointed that the other had pushed her hair back, as it would have given her an excuse to reach out...She shook the thought away as Tempe spoke again. "Takes a lot to startle me." She replied with a slight shrug of her shoulders. "As for the obvious attraction...I'm more then happy to just go with it." Ace didn't mind her being straightforward -- it always made things easier, and a bit of a turn on if she was honest. Got to love a woman who gets to the point.

"Does it bother you?" Ace asked, leaving the question open to mean did it bother her, liking another woman, having that woman be Ace in particular, and/or knowing that it wasn't entirely under their control. If any of it did Ace would like to think that she would back off, respect the other's discomfort with the whole situation, but she couldn't say for sure that she could. It was rare she felt this strongly about anyone, and never so quickly.

"Apparently, yes." She regarded the brunette for a moment before she replied to the latter part of her statement. "I've found that most break-ups are hell. But all mine have been with men who couldn't accept my superior intellect and felt intimidated by my career." She hadn't ever considered what a break up with a woman would be like. She supposed, if they were as irrational as men, and more prone to their emotions, then it would probably be more difficult. The men she'd had in her life usually moved on well, other than returning to take back a television here and there. But there had usually been no hard feelings, just wounded pride.

"I work with corpses and bones, usually it takes a lot to startle me. But I suppose feelings are different. I'm not very good with my feelings." Why was she admitting this to a perfect stranger? She was usually so closeted. She never offered anything about herself willingly. Only if she felt it would gain her something, like some information about the other. Perhaps that was the underlying reason. She wanted Ace to offer up something of herself in return.

Instead, she asked a question. "Yes, quite frankly. You are a very attractive woman, and admittedly the first woman I've found so attractive. But my best friend Angela, is beautiful. I never felt anything for her like I am feeling for you. It doesn't seem right." Bones did feel out of control. She was also slightly angry. But, the pheramones had infected her through and through, and she couldn't bring herself to stay angry when she looked at Ace.

She sighed softly and lifted her hand for a golem, signaling that she wanted to order some coffee. When the clay man came over, she looked up. "I'd like a Venti Mocha Frappuccino." She turned to Ace after completing her order to wait while she she told him what she wanted and the golem walked away to fill it.

"Bones and corpses, bad with feelings -- you're making yourself sound a bit antisocial, Tempe." She said, lightly teasing before she continued. "Why? Feelings are supposed to be easy." Ace never really had a problem with feelings, especially not when it came to attraction and that sort. Not to say she was an emotional sort of person, she could be very reserved sometimes, typically when she was depressed or hurt...Never when she cared about someone though.

As for offering information about herself...Well, if Bones asked her a specific question she probably wouldn't lie, but otherwise she had a habit of trying to steer the conversation away from herself. Mostly because everything about her life was generally unbelievable to the average person. People typically assumed she was crazy or lying when she was honest, and that was hardly the way to make a good impression.

"She's your best friend though. I've had friends who were right good looking, but couldn't imagine ever being attracted to them. Besides, its not like emotions are the most rational thing in the world." Ace replied, gaze remaining on Temperance as she wave the golem off saying simply that she'd have the same thing.

"No, I'm not antisocial. I'm just better at reading the bones of people than the actual person. I like being around people. I'm around people every day." She was quick to defend herself, as usual. It didn't matter if she was teasing, it was hitting too close to home for her comfort. "Not for me." There was a reason Tempe was the way she was. She hated psychology, it was a soft science, and she didn't understand it. But everyone tried to diagnose her.

She looked up again when the golem brought their drinks to the table. The frozen blended drink smelled good with the whipped cream topping it. She took a sip. Swallowing, she returned her attention to Ace. "I've encountered several beautiful women I didn't have a relationship with. Strangers, like yourself. I've never felt an attraction to any of them." She took another sip, sitting back in the booth.

She was upset, not at being attracted to Ace, but at the idea that she had no control over the attraction, and that this was the first time it had happened to her. It was unnerving. What Ace said about emotions was true. "But, I'm a rational person." Brennan prided herself on that. She was the one who could remove herself from the situation and look at it with an outside perspective.

This was the most stimulating conversation Bones had participated in since her arrival. Not that Miguel had been boring, but she had just arrived and hadn't been able to fully concentrate on the conversation as much as the influx of information. She smiled slightly. "I'm sorry. I am not trying to say that being attracted to you is a bad thing. It's just new to me."

Without the appearance of hesitation, Bones leaned toward Ace and pressed her lips against hers. She was shocked that she'd not only had the audacity, but that she had acted on the strange attraction she felt for the fellow woman. She pulled back slightly, to gauge her own reaction and that of the other woman. Her heartbeat quickened and she smiled again. It had felt good, and she was willing to give into the base desire. There was no logical reason not to.

She nodded slightly, deciding just to accept what the other said, and not question it. Bit of a touchy subject, she supposed, and not her place to pry. If Brennen had wanted to know more she would've said so, right? Ace took her own drink, looking at it curiously. As odd as it may seem, she'd never actually had Starbucks before or anything like the frappuccino, not a big coffee drinker in general. Not to mention she generally spent time in eras before the chain and drink were created, or long afterwards where there were more interesting things to do then sit around in coffee shops.

"Yeah...but somethings are just out of your control." She took a sip of the cold drink, and deciding they were pretty good before setting it back down. "Emotions are one of them. Especially not when they are being --" Ace paused to think of the right word; manipulated sounded too sinister for something encouraging love, and enhanced just wasn't right either..." -- Influenced." Good enough.

The brunette smiled back, and gave a small shake of her head at the apology. "No need to be sorry, gorgeous. I underst --" Ace was cut off as Tempe's lips met her own. It caught her off guard, but that was hardly a bad thing. She quickly forgot what she'd been saying, letting an arm snake around Bones' waist to pull her closer before she broke the kiss. Judging her reaction wouldn't be too hard either, as she promptly leaned forward to steal another kiss. Couldn't let her think that last one was the best she could do, having been surprised the first go.

She felt Ace's arm slide around her waist and urge her closer. She complied, scooting in so that they were pressed close together. Their faces mere inches apart after the first kiss, were drawn back to the second kiss as Ace dove in wholeheartedly. Bones didn't mind. Her head might be protesting the idea of kissing another woman, but her body was agreeing most passionately.

Brennan lifted her arm, her hand sliding back through Ace's hair to grasp at the back of her neck, kneading her fingers into the flesh, twining her hair around her fingers. The kiss seemed to last a lifetime, and it was much better the second time. Ace's surprise at being kissed had caused it to be somewhat stiff and awkward, but such was not the case now.

Her other hand gripped the table, using it for leverage to press her closer to the other female. She broke the kiss to breathe, taking shallow raspong breaths of air. She smiled, giddily happy for no good reason. She'd just gone against years of thinking she was straight to turing, if not lesbian, bisexual. It was mind boggling.

She shook her head and pulled back. "I guess you could wait longer than I could." She smiled guiltily and took another drink of her frappuccino, though she stayed where she was, her free hand still in Ace's hair.

The small spark she'd gotten from holding Bones' hand was nothing compared to having the other woman pressed close to her, and no part of Ace was protesting anything. Kissing a woman was hardly new to her, though it had been so long since she'd felt this passionately about anyone. It was nice, better then nice, to have someone to care for -- maybe love, even if only temporary and not entirely her choice -- on this wretched planet. It didn't hurt that the woman was beautiful, and a good kisser, and intelligent (she was fairly certain, though they'd only talked for a short while.)

Ace grinned and nipped at her bottom lip lightly before Tempe broke the kiss. Returning the same giddy smile, she gave a sort of half-hug with her arm still around Bones, fingers playing lightly over her hip.

"No complaints on my end." Ace grinned, her own coffee neglected as her attentions were focused on Temperance, free hand reaching up to brush the other's hair back affectionately. "It's too bad we're stuck on this planet. First dates with me are usually more exciting...Bein' a fan of bones and corpses -- I could've taken you to Egypt, given you a tour of the the pyramids." Ace liked to play it big when trying to impress usually, but something like that wasn't hard when she had a time and space hopping motorbike. It's too bad it only worked on Earth.

Bones gave her a half smile and ducked her head slightly when her hair was brushed off her face. She laughed at the talk of a first date. "I've been to Egypt. A couple times, actually." She wasn't thinking about the idea that Ace could possibly take her back in time. "I'm a bigger fan of bones than corpes. Although, mummified remains are very interesting. Their method of embalming their dead was very advanced for the time."

She was rambling. Again. She did that all the time, and she didn't know why. It wasn't as if Ace had asked for the information. She turned, settling in comfortably beside Ace. The two of them squished to the furthest end of the booth against the wall. Temperance picked up her coffee and took another sip. It tasted good and cooled her mouth from the seeming fire that was consuming her.

"Where have you taken other dates?" She asked, idly curious, though not overly concerned. She wasn't jealous. Jealousy was an irrational emotion Bones didn't let herself feel. She was just curious about Ace and what she did. She found herself in love with the woman and wanted to know all there was to know about her.

"Not with me. We could've seen the embalming process first hand." She said, remembering her time in ancient Egypt. Ace hadn't been too keen on it at the time, but looking back it hadn't been bad. Especially being the Pharaoh's body guard.

"Other dates?" She thought for a second, trying to recall some of the more impressive dates. "Went to see Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin perform once...Visited the hanging gardens of Babylon. I had one guy take me on a date to the planet Arcateen V to see some of the greatest singers and poets in the galaxy perform..." Those had been some of her favorites. Especially drinking with Frank and Dean.

Bones raised an eyebrow. "You really think you can travel through time, don't you?" She was a little concerned that the woman she'd just fallen in love with was delusional. Time travel was impossible, at least in Tempe's world. And if it wasn't a proven science, Bones didn't believe in it. Unless, of course, she could experience it for herself.

She was fairly certain that she was part of some sick elaborate experiment. And she wasn't happy about it. And she was also certain, though she couldn't be without any evidence, that Ace was mentally unstable. Which brought her around to the confusing question of what Bones herself was doing here. She was perfectly stable, and couldn't understand why she would be mixed in with those who weren't. Unless the observation being made was those sane people interacting with the insane.

She was glad that Ace didn't seem to think she could read minds, either, as she talked about the various dates she'd been on. They sounded fascinating, the Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra date especially appealed to her. But she had no idea what Arcateen V was. Ace said it was a planet, but Bones was certain no such thing existed.

"I see." Another sip of the frozen blended drink was taken before she continued. Maybe she ought to just play along. That might be best. "So, how was it seeing Frank and Dean?"

"I can." She stated, knowing she probably sounded like a loon. Really -- she wasn't the only one here who had, and proving it would take a simple trip to the TARDIS. It wasn't her place though. She had no right to show the ship to strangers without the Doctor's approval, and really, she'd have to trust someone a lot more before even considering vouching for them with the Doctor. Even love didn't sway that loyalty. So she'd have to use her own tricks.

Ace glanced down at her belongings, taking stock of her scars, tried to recall things that might prove she wasn't a loon, glancing up only when Bones spoke again. "Fantastic. They're great company if you can get a hold of them. Friends of the mafia, you know? And that lot is protective of the people they like -- not too fond of strangers." She answered, sounding sincere.

"How to prove it..." Her attention flickered about until she pulled her arm free and took off her watch. "Right...Look. This watch --" It was simple enough, plain black, looked to be made of a plastic material, and had a digital read of the time. Granted it was a bit big, and had quite a few buttons along the sides. "It allows me to interface with computers, connects to wrist bound dart gun I've got in my bike to allow voice activated firing, and is a personal force shield generator." The last was the easiest to demonstrate, so she turned one of the small silver knobs, pressed it in, and a light shone for an instant, like a camera flash. After which she seemed no different, just looked like she was holding the watch like before.

"Throw something at my hand." These weren't possible for a good couple centuries if she was guessing right about the general era that Temperance came from. So watching whatever she threw be stopped a good few inches before even reaching her hand and fall to the floor might make her story seem a bit more believable. She had the technology from the future, right?

Bones shrugged, as if to acknowledge the fact that Ace was indeed crazy. But, she wasn't afraid. She didn't seem like one of those crazy stalkers, or the legitimate psychopaths she'd dealt with before. Compared to Howard Epps or the Gormagon, Ace was sunshine and daisies. Just delusional sunshine and daisies.

Bones laughed, nodding to her remarks about Dean and Frank. Bones had also had issues with mafia. But then, Bones had issues with a lot of people. Mostly just those who hurt or killed innocent people. Or just people in general, innocent or not.

She looked at the watch curiously. It looked like a regular old watch to her. She tilted her head, listening and then furrowing her brows at the flash of light and the request to throw something at her hand. She pulled a napkin out of the dispenser, wadded it up and threw it at Ace's hand.

Strangely enough, it stopped as if it had hit a wall and fell to the tabletop. She picked it up again, wondering if she hadn't thrown it hard enough and tried once more. Once again it stopped a few inches short of touching her hand, even though she'd thrown it with enough force that it ought to have connected.

It was strange, but not altogether unexplainable. Some sort of electrostatic force might be keeping the napkin from hitting it's target. So, she used her finger. She aimed it at her hand and jabbed. Her finger connected with something solid, yet invisible a few inches above her hand. She poked again and got the same result.

"Hmm." She wanted to be able to explain this with science. But she supposed forcefields could exist without her knowing about them. A lot of things did, in all reality.

"Hmm?" She rolled her eyes slightly. "Force fields from after your time. Not to mention the fact that you were kidnapped by a planet, but you still don't believe me." Ace laughed a bit to herself. It never failed. Humans were always the most reluctant to believe things like this. Aliens, time travel, anything beyond their comprehension. Not all of them, some were more willing to believe then others, and she was human too, but she'd had her eyes opened early on.

"I've got a few more trinkets in my bike. That or you can talk to people. My first day I met an English guy from the 1970s, a girl from 2003, and some elf from a place called Middle Earth. Then there is always the golem things." Really, looking around ought to have been proof enough to believe just about anything -- or at least cause to be a little more open minded.

"I have a device attached to my bike that allows me to travel in space and time. It only works on Earth unfortunately, but I've a friend working on getting all of us off this rock. Then I could show you beyond a shadow of a doubt." Ace turned off the forcefield, and picked up her coffee, taking a sip of the frozen treat.

She didn't really want to argue with Ace, but Bones had only been on the planet for three days, and one of them she'd spent holed up in her room/lab, and the first day she'd arrived and this day she'd run into Ace. She hadn't seen much of the resort. And she hadn't met any of the people she was talking about.

Miguel seemed normal enough, if not as deluded as Ace. She was starting to feel like this was all a dream, or that she was possibly in a coma. Her logical and rational mind would not allow her to believe all this without some sort of explanation. And a sentient planet wasn't an explanation.

She accepted what she said with a little shrug and then changed the subject. They chatted a little more, finishing their coffees before deciding to find something else to entertain them. Bones scooted out of the booth and held her hand out for Ace. She usually wasn't one for public displays of affection, but Ace was changing her mind on a lot of things.

Evening :: the bar

Ace couldn't think of a better way to spend the day on this planet. It was the first time she'd actually watched a sunset too; one of those cliché romantic moments that normally she'd avoid. Still it was nice enough, not the most impressive thing she'd seen, but she'd been more focused on Bones -- which had been the case most of the day. Holding hands, talking, among other things...Dates with the time traveler usually ended in trouble, running in some completely different era, adrenaline was better then novel romance. Today it had been walking, the game room, lakeside and a little lunch. Whatever looked like fun.

"Here." She grinned, pushing open the door to the bar, and pulling Tempe inside along with her. How better to end the day then with a few drinks? Taking a seat at the bar, the golem looking a little out of place, but she'd learned to shrug it off. She was used to them by now, having seen weirder things in her life. The brunette motioned for Temperance to sit on the stool beside her.

"Hypervodka and a -- " Ace looked to her companion to order her drink. Normally she'd just order two. Hypervodka was a cocktail of Earth and alien liquor, with the taste of any sweet froofroo drink, and the punch of a couple double shots. She wasn't sure that Brennen could handle the drink though, having never had it before. So instead she waited for the other to pick something a little less potent.

Bones had found herself having a very good time with her newfound love, Ace. She had enjoyed her time with the woman, chatting, walking, the sunset. It had all been very unobtrusive and soothing in all reality. She found that despite their differences, and their differing opinions on what could and could not possibly exist, she still managed to have a good time.

As they walked through the main building, Bones had begun to wonder what else they might do that day. It was dark outside and it was difficult to see out there with so much open space and no lighting other than the moon and stars. So, staying inside seemed to be a good idea. She paused when she heard Ace say "Here." Her grin was slightly unnerving, and then Tempe understood once she was inside. It was a bar.

She groaned inwardly as she was pulled along to the long bar on one side of the room. She took the stool next to Ace and leaned an elbow on the bar. "I'm admittedly not a great drinker." She gave her a little grimace. She wasn't good in social situations where she was surrounded by people. There weren't that many people in there, but still. There was loud music, which she didn't mind, and bodies on the dancefloor writhing to the rhythms.

"Uh, beer." Whenever she'd had drinks with anyone, it usually ended in disaster. She'd gone out for drinks with Angela and ended up high from some cocaine sealed in a wall she'd sort of broken through by throwing someone into it. She got drunk with Booth, and always woke up with a raging headache. She usually stuck with beer or wine, depending upon the occasion.

She gave a tight smile to the golem, which she still thought was probably just a very well devised robot, and took the beer offered to her. She didn't have a preference on the type of beer she drank, she was just drinking so she didn't look so out of place in the bar. She was interested in the drink Ace ordered, however, and studied it with a raised brow after the golem set it down. "What exactly is hypervodka?"

Ace sat on the stool with her back resting against the bar, glancing around at the people on the dance floor, the pool table off in the corner (which she made a mental note of for later), feet tapping lightly to the music, and smiling back at Bones. The other looked a bit put off by the idea of drinking, but the beer she ordered would, no doubt, help her relax. As for the bad drinker bit. How bad could a beer or two be? Unless the woman was an absolute light weight, but really -- Ace could keep her in check if that was the case, she was a great drinker.

As for her drink, it took a bit longer, but eventually the golem pushed a glass her way. "Exactly?" She repeated, taking a small drink of the clear liquid. "I'm not sure. Obviously there is some vodka. I think there is a bit of Gallavax Prime. Maybe Redstar or gin." Ace shrugged slightly, she'd probably asked before, but couldn't remember for the life of her. "It's sweet though, but not for the casual drinker." She knew from experience that this was one drink you definitely had to drink slowly, or you'd be in a sorry state in no time flat. "Want a taste?"

She grinned and took another sip, some of the almost honey flavored cocktail still on her lips as she leaned over to kiss Temperance. Any excuse by now was good enough for her, and after spending all day together she didn't feel any reason to restrain herself. Any worries about the short time they'd known each other long since gone.

Bones wasn't so much put off by the idea of drinking as the idea of what would happen as a result of drinking. She took the beer and placed the cool glass of the mouth against her lips, taking a small swallow. She savored her alcohol. If it was going to make her relax, she was going to do it on her terms. A master of control.

She leaned on the bar, beer in hand, facing Ace. She nodded as the woman repeated part of her question. Crossing her legs she leaned forward slightly, looking in the glass at the clear liquid. She was concerned that Ace didn't know what exactly was in it. She knew a few of the ingredients, but Bones wasn't sure she would be able to drink or eat something without knowing what it was, first. Still, she nodded at Ace's explanation, but hesitated at being offered a taste.

She finally nodded again. "Sure." But as she reached for the glass, Ace took another drink and leaned foward, pressing their lips together. Bones snaked her arm around her neck, tasting the honey flavored liquor on her lips. Her lips parted and she lapped up more of the liquor with her tongue. It tasted good, but she could tell just with that small amount that it would knock her flat if she had it in greater quantity.

She broke from the kiss, panting slightly and grinning goofily. "It is good." She didn't want to taint the taste of the alcohol with the taste of her beer, but she was suddenly parched. She took a long gulp of her beer, forgetting the need to be moderate and slow. The rhythm of the music was getting to her, along with the alcohol. A flush was creeping up her chest to her neck and she wanted to dance.

She set her beer down and pulled Ace toward the dancefloor. Normall, it was Angela pulling Bones toward the dancefloor. But pheromones, Ace, and alcohol were all factors in the way she was acting now.

Ace would've been more disappointed when Tempe broke their kiss if it hadn't been for the goofy grin playing across her features. She couldn't help but laugh, especially when the other proceeded to chug down quite a bit of her beer. The grin wasn't something new, they'd both been making eyes at each other all day, but the flush was new. Oh god...She's a lightweight, ain't she? The brunette thought to herself with an amused grin.

She didn't get the chance to think much longer on it though, having enough time to set her own drink down before being dragged off towards the dance floor. "Whoa, gorgeous...I-I need to drink more if you expect me to dance!" Ace argued, not much of a dancer, more the watching type, but it didn't look like she had much of a choice.

She tapped her feet awkwardly to the beat, swaying this way and that, but it could hardly be called a dance. She'd waltzed in the eighteenth century, and participated in a traditional folk dance with a family from some planet she couldn't even begin to pronounce, but the later required she turn in a circle, do a few odd hand gestures, and sing. So she just watched Bones, following her example, and just trying to move with the music.

Bones wasn't the best dancer, but music moved her. She let it take over and she just moved her body the way the music demanded. She laughed as Ace protested, but pulled her to the center of the dance floor anyway. She watched Ace for a moment, noting her awkward movements. Ace wasn't much of a dancer.

Temperance moved in, placing her hands on Ace's hips and moving them with the beat, moving her own hips in the same way. "Just let it take over. The music will guide you. Don't let your inhibitions limit you." Bones was giving this advice? Well, the day had been very different from what she was used to. For one, she didn't just fall in love with random women. For two, she didn't normally spend the entire day with said women.

She grinned and removed her hands, turning and swaying as she circled Ace, brushing up against her. She lifted a hand and trailed it from Ace's shoulder to the small of her back as she completed her turn around her. She lifted her arms above her head and closed her eyes, swaying to the rhythms.

"Whatever you say, babe." It wasn't so much as inhibitions as it was her lack of practice and two left feet. Usually she was buzzed enough that when she danced it was more the alcohol moving her. She smiled at the feel of Bones' hands on her hips though, and moved under her guide, trying to follow the music. Ace got the general idea soon enough, and managed not to look totally awkward only to have Temperance let go and start showing off. Of course, she had no complaints, watching the other woman dance circles around her. A pleasant little shudder going down her spine as fingers played over her shoulders and lower back.

Standing back and watching really wasn't like her though, so it didn't take long before Ace closed the distance between them again. Moving behind the other woman, her hands moving down her sides and resting on Tempe's hips, swaying with her rather then trying to keep with the music. Which did make it easier, she'd always been a hands on kind of learner.

If she had dared to speak those words aloud, Bones would have promptly told her that having two left feet was not possible. But, seeing as how she didn't, Bones just smiled at the whatever you say, babe comment. Temperance was pleased when Ace seemed to let go a little more and begin dancing on her own. She turned her head slightly as she watched her move around behind.

She felt hands on her own hips and felt Ace dancing behind her. She put her hands on Ace's and swirled her hips, rocking and gyrating to the music. She was having a lot of fun, and had only had a sip of beer and a faint taste of hypervodka. She really didn't need alcohol to have fun, she needed to not be at work. Although, work was also a form of fun.

But at work, she had to think. Here she did no such thing. She listened to the music, lifted her arms above her head and danced like no one was watching. She leaned back against Ace and wrapped her arms up and back around the other woman's neck.

It was lucky she hadn't said so out loud then, as it would have no doubt started an interesting conversation because Ace had personally met a man with two left feet (however, despite the saying, he'd been a fantastic dancer). Though it hadn't been by any real choice of his, more a medical accident -- but that would have to be left for some other time. Instead she tried to focus on her own feet; a step here, a step there, avoid other people's toes. She could be graceful as all get out when fighting, but this was different.

With Bones' hands on her own she moved her hips in a way that the tom-boyish soldier would otherwise have insisted they couldn't do. It was fun. Typically she liked to go to bars, play pool, drinking games, things like that. Dancing with Tempe was admittedly, much better. She smiled and swayed and let her fingers play across the other woman's hips and sides as arms wrapped around her neck.

Ace wondered idly if these feelings would last. It would be nice, a companion of sorts of her own while she was on this planet. Relationships weren't something she was great at, but this had been going about pretty damn well so far. Bones was fun, interesting, even if she did think Ace was delusional, but given time she could prove herself on that account no doubt.

Of course, if these feelings didn't last that might make for a bit of awkwardness later on. They did learn quite a bit about each other during the day though, so at the very least Ace assumed they would be on friendly terms.

Dancing was not something that Bones typically enjoyed. She loved music, but she often found that she didn't have the desire to dance to it. Once in a while, she got the inclination, but it was rare. This was one of those rare moments. She wasn't even especially good at it, she just let her body take over and move of its own accord.

Sometimes she was in sync with the music, but a lot of the times she wasn't. She was having a great time with Ace and wouldn't have it any other way. She turned, slinging her arms back around Ace's neck and swaying with the music, their bodies brushing against the other's.

She smiled and slowed as the song came to an end. She looked Ace over and then took her hand, walking back to the bar. "You're a good dancer." She took her seat back on the barstool and lifted her beer to her lips. She took a swig and smiled. Earlier that day she had accepted the fact that she was inexplicably drawn to this woman. As long as she felt this way, she was going to enjoy it. It was making her happy, and that was something she usually only reserved for her work with bones.

By this point Ace had gotten over any awkwardness or self-doubt so far as her dancing was concerned. Honestly, she didn't much care about how she looked or moved with Bones held close, arms curled around each other, and having real fun. Easily the best day she'd had on this planet, in a while actually. Still, she was hardly upset when the song ended, more then happy to lace her fingers together with Temperance's and return to the bar.

"Had a good teacher." She stated simply, lifting her glass to her before taking a drink. A little sip at first but really she was never one to sip drinks for very long -- glancing down, noting little more then half of the drink, she shrugged and took the rest out like a shot. Delicious as it was, she still gave an involuntary sort of shudder, and asked for a beer to wash down the bitter sort of after taste that much hard alcohol left behind. She'd spend most of tomorrow in bed with a hang over, no doubt, but its not like she had any pressing appointments.

"You know," Ace smirked a bit, looking at her beer. "I can make beer and bourbon, bathtub brews. Used to make it back in Chicago, and sell it at this little nightspot on Dearborn Street." She took a drink and smiled back at Bones, leaving out the fact that she'd done this back in 1929 with the Doctor during prohibition. "Have you got any strange talents?" Ace asked, leaning against the bar casually.

Bones scoffed a little at the teacher comment, but she took it graciously and smiled at her. She watche Ace down the rest of her drink, raising an eyebrow. She had done shots with Booth a few times, but had always regretted it the next morning. She did not do well with hangovers. This beer was going to affect her but it wasn't going to give her a raging headache in the morning.

She smirked and then looked impressed when Ace said she could make beer and bourbon in a bathtub. "Impressive. Illegal, though, isn't it?" She wasn't sure about that, she'd have to ask Booth. And then like a punch in the gut, she realized Booth wasn't here to ask. She gave Ace another smile, but it wasn't convincing.

"Me? Strange talents? Well, I don't think they're strange. I have been trained in three types of martial arts, I'm a registered marksman for the NRA and I have hunting licenses in four states. That's just outside of work. I have three degrees and by looking at a single bone I can usually give you the general age, sex and cause of death for a person." She looked up at Ace. "Do you think those are strange talents?" Booth did. He thought all her friends that worked in the lab had odd talents.

She suddenly felt their loss more powerfully than she had since setting foot in this place. She tried to smile, but it was so tremulous that it was too much effort. She took a deep breath. "I think I should go. I've really had a good time with you today, but I ... I need to be alone. I'll... catch up with you another time." She slipped off the stool and nodded to her, touching her shoulder as she passed her on the way to the door.

She loved Ace, but she also loved her friends. And she felt like she was never going to see them again. Being alone felt like the only thing that would keep her sane. Maybe she could find something in the half lab in her room to occupy her mind.

"It was at the time." She admitted, not sure if it was still illegal to make your own alcohol in more present times. Not that it really mattered as she'd only utilized that particular talent back in the 20s and then once again in the distant future for some of the soldiers she'd worked with to help take the edge off after enduring some pretty messed up shit.

"The bones thing is unusual for me, but definitely impressive. The others not so much. I'm not trained in any fighting styles, but I've gotten in enough fights to hold my own. As for the guns -- Soldier. Hell of a shot with all kinds of weapons. I've got quite a collection." She always carried at least one gun among other compact weapons on her person, habit from years of fighting aliens and the sort.

Ace caught that something was off, wondering if she'd said something to upset the other woman. It wouldn't surprise her, she tended to do that sometimes without even realizing it. They had spent all day together though, and understood if Bones wanted to call it a night. "Alright. Good night, Tempe." Ace let her hand brush Temperance's briefly, and watched her go. As tempted as she was to follow, she stayed at the bar a while longer, figuring it wasn't that big a resort, and they'd run into each other again.
