Day Five
Who: Legolas and Giselle
What: Meeting as planned
When: Just before sunrise
Where: Giselle's room
Rating: G, because this is Giselle we're talking about.
Status: Complete

He awoke long before dawn, which was not all that unusual for him. Elves do not even really, truly sleep, and the state of reverie they enter into doesn't take as long to refresh their minds and bodies as a true sleep does. As soon as he became fully aware, he remembered that he had an appointment today. He rose from his bed in the eerie, pre-dawn light. He liked this time of day, actually. He'd discovered that no one else did, and so he usually had time alone to do whatever he wished around this time of day.

It didn't take long for him to shower under the waterfall that fell in the corner of his room, and then he walked over to the closet that was concealed within a tree, just as his bed was. He went for his tunic and leggings, and then stopped himself. He wasn't going to her room as an elven warrior, after all. It would be rude to dress like that. So, instead, his fingers found a soft, light-blue velvet outfit, the sort of thing a princeling would wear when he wanted to look nice. He smiled and put it on, and then walked to the pool at the bottom of the waterfall, which acted as a mirror. He wished he had his mithril crown, but that was far away in Middle Earth. He had just finished thinking that, when there was a dull, metallic thump of something landing at his feet.

Curious, he picked it up and brushed some dirt off of it. An amused smile made it's way onto his lips. His crown. He should really stop being surprised at what the planet kept doing. Still, since it was here... he slipped the delicately worked crown of the silvery metal into place on his head. Now, he was the elven prince. His bow he left, but his knives he carried. He would not willingly be separated from all his weapons. What if someone attacked Giselle at he had to defend her?

When he was ready, he slipped out of his room and walked down the hallway, silent as a shadow. He didn't have to try to be, it was just natural to him. It didn't take long for him to reach the building she lived in, nor to find the room number she gave him. It was just before dawn when he knocked softly on her door. Maybe she was still sleeping? He didn't want to wake her. It was very early for humans, he understood.

"That is a quick wedding, Lady. Elves do these things much more slowly. The courtship process itself takes years, at times, and then there is a tradition of a seven year engagement before the wedding can even be planned."

He was, after all, from a culture that lives forever, and there was really no hurry for something like marriage. Time could be taken, to fully understand the other elf involved, and make sure you were truly compatible.

"So, lady Giselle. My name, Legolas, actually means 'Greenleaf' in the elven tongue. That is why I am sometimes called 'Greenleaf', though it is somewhat redundant."

He frowned thoughtfully and looked over at the human woman. She certainly had a lot of energy, which was a quality he could respect in anyone. He shifted slightly himself, staying comfortable, and kept looking at her levelly.

"Marriage has not been on my mind much, but I suppose that, yes, I will likely outlive most of the people I meet here. Well, let me see. I entertain myself mostly with hunting, music, and watching nature, much as any elf would. I also read often. I could read the books of my ancestors for an age and never grow weary." He laughed before continuing. "I love to eat sweet berries, honeycakes, and sometimes venison." He tilted his head enquiringly at her. "And what of you, Lady Giselle? Tell me of yourself. Everything there is to know."

She smiled slightly. "Yes. That seems to be the way of it in Andalasia." She listened as he explained the courtship process in the elven world. Her jaw dropped. "Seven years? That is quite a long time. I should think I would grow impatient."

She shook her head. She couldn't imagine such a thing. If she had to wait seven years, she would be old, and the time for bearing children would pass too quickly. But, she supposed that as elves didn't grow old, they had all the time in the world to court, marry and bear children.

She nodded at the explanation of his name. "I don't think mine carries any meaning. I am just Giselle." She smiled, not unhappy with this, but it would be much more interesting if it meant something.

"Does it trouble you that you will live longer than most of the people here? If we are to live here the rest of our lives, you could concievably be the only one here at some point. Although, if the Planet continues to bring people on a daily basis, you may never be alone." She giggled and then listened as he told of himself. And when he was done and asked her to reciprocate, she obliged.

"I sing, as you know. I also enjoy dancing. Taking long walks. Talking to the animals and cleaning up. I enjoyed shopping when Morgan and I went. And I also like to try new things. I like to read, but not as extensively as it sounds like you do." She grinned at him and then continued. "I tried pizza for the first time in New York and it was delicious. As well as hot dogs. They're not really made from dogs, though. But, before New York, I enjoyed fresh berries as you do, nuts and vegetables I grew in the garden." She shrugged. She wasn't sure what else to tell him, her life before Edward and Robert had been fairly calm and boring. It wasn't until after going to New York that she became a little more exciting.

"I see. Well, I do know that when a human and an elf are concerned, the process is rather quicker. Three times has it happened that a elf maid fell in love with a human man, and gave up the immortal life of her, and my, people. It is a very rare thing, and when it is done, some the the normal traditions do not apply."

He smiled over at her, glad to explain these things. It was nice, he thought, to speak of these things that, on his world, everyone already knew. She brought such an interesting energy to everything she did or said.

"Lady, you have a lovely name. Giselle... in my language, 'El' means star. So you are a lovely star." He nodded decisively at her. In his land, all names had meaning, so he was happy that hers did now, as well. He listened carefully to her next question.

"My Lady, I rarely allow myself to become troubled by something I cannot prevent. As well, I understand that there are vampires here. Do they not have eternal life, as well? I think I shall never be alone. And perhaps, someday, this planet will grow bored of me and move me somewhere else. That would be a great adventure."

Then, it was his turn to listen to her, and he did, intently. Though he loved being the storyteller, he also loved listening to stories equally.

"We have many of the same interests, my lady, for I sing and dance as well. I do not know what this shopping thing you speak of is, however." He tilted his head to the side as she kept going. "Pizza? Hot dogs? These are strange things, indeed. New York must be a bizarre land, indeed."

"Never an elven man with a human woman?" She was intrigued, but it seemed a little one sided. Were human men so enticing? She didn't think they were anything superior to elves. At least, not the elf she knew anyway.

She grinned brightly when he translated her name. "Lovely star." She sighed softly and put her hand to her chest, gushing slightly over it. "I love it, thank you, Legolas." She beamed at him.

"Vampires?" She scowled slightly. She didn't know what those were, but they didn't sound as nice as elves. "I don't know about the lives of vampires." She giggled at his voiced thought that perhaps the Planet would grow bored of him and toss him off somewhere else. "Maybe."

"Oh, shopping? It's where you go to different vendors and purchase things. Pretty things. Or maybe not so pretty things depending on your tastes. Morgan and I bought dresses and shoes. It was quite fun." She sat up slightly. "I'm not quite sure how to describe pizza and hot dogs. It's something you might have to experience for yourself. One of these days, you and I can go to the restaurant and we'll order it. Maybe you'll like it!" She grinned, shrugging.

Looking around her, she could see that the morning was fully upon them. The sun had risen well beyond the horizon and the animals that had earlier surrounded them had dwindled down to a few who were content to listen to the humanoids speaking to each other. She looked back at Legolas with a smile, but all the talk about food was making her hungry. Breakfast was in order.

Legolas frowned momentarily, and then searched his memory. Funny, he'd never heard of an elven male and a female human before. It always seemed to go the other way. Suddenly, he laughed.

"Now that you speak on it, I have never heard of it going that way. Strange. It is not that it could not happen, just that it never has." He smiled at her. "You are quite welcome, Lovely Star."

He listened to her explanation, but noticed when she spoke of food, that she had a slight look of hunger on her face. She was probably quite hungry, as it was getting towards mid-morning and they'd been sitting here chatting for ages.

"Yes, one day we should do that... but right now, Lady, I think that you need to go eat. Please, if you hunger, do not wait here for me. It is late. I would like to sit and watch the morning for awhile longer."

She shrugged when he said that he had never heard of an elven man falling in love with a human maid. There was a first time for everything.

She got to her feet and some of the remaining animals scampered off. She curtsied to Legolas and smiled at him. "I had a wonderful time, Legolas. Thank you for inviting me out to watch the sun rise with you. Enjoy the rest of your day." She waved to him slightly and then skipped off.

She had spent an extraordinary morning with a wonderful elf. She beamed as she headed for the restaurant to get some breakfast. She couldn't have planned a better morning if she'd tried.
