Day Five
Who: Legolas and Giselle
What: Meeting as planned
When: Just before sunrise
Where: Giselle's room
Rating: G, because this is Giselle we're talking about.
Status: Complete

He awoke long before dawn, which was not all that unusual for him. Elves do not even really, truly sleep, and the state of reverie they enter into doesn't take as long to refresh their minds and bodies as a true sleep does. As soon as he became fully aware, he remembered that he had an appointment today. He rose from his bed in the eerie, pre-dawn light. He liked this time of day, actually. He'd discovered that no one else did, and so he usually had time alone to do whatever he wished around this time of day.

It didn't take long for him to shower under the waterfall that fell in the corner of his room, and then he walked over to the closet that was concealed within a tree, just as his bed was. He went for his tunic and leggings, and then stopped himself. He wasn't going to her room as an elven warrior, after all. It would be rude to dress like that. So, instead, his fingers found a soft, light-blue velvet outfit, the sort of thing a princeling would wear when he wanted to look nice. He smiled and put it on, and then walked to the pool at the bottom of the waterfall, which acted as a mirror. He wished he had his mithril crown, but that was far away in Middle Earth. He had just finished thinking that, when there was a dull, metallic thump of something landing at his feet.

Curious, he picked it up and brushed some dirt off of it. An amused smile made it's way onto his lips. His crown. He should really stop being surprised at what the planet kept doing. Still, since it was here... he slipped the delicately worked crown of the silvery metal into place on his head. Now, he was the elven prince. His bow he left, but his knives he carried. He would not willingly be separated from all his weapons. What if someone attacked Giselle at he had to defend her?

When he was ready, he slipped out of his room and walked down the hallway, silent as a shadow. He didn't have to try to be, it was just natural to him. It didn't take long for him to reach the building she lived in, nor to find the room number she gave him. It was just before dawn when he knocked softly on her door. Maybe she was still sleeping? He didn't want to wake her. It was very early for humans, he understood.

As if Giselle could sleep with the excitement of the coming day. But, she managed. She was snoring softly, snuggled up in her bed of down comfortor, pillows and a deep pillow-top mattress that enveloped her in its fluffy depths. She suddenly became aware of chirping and squeaking. Cracking one eye open, she found one of her furry friends, a floppy-eared bunny sitting next to her on the bed. It was squeaking at her. And a a couple of sparrows were sitting on her canopy, chirping at her.

Her other eye rapidly followed suit and she looked at the doors leading to her balcony. The predawn light was slowly going from grey to lavendar. She was going to be late! She bolted from her bed and knocked the poor bunny to the floor. It got up and shook itself, but hopped after her. She threw her wardrobe open and searched the contents for something suitable to wear. She picked out a lovely pale blue dress with more ruffles than should be allowed.

She hung it on the door as she sprinted for the bathroom and took a quick shower. She opened her balcony doors for her bird friends and called out to them for help. Settling herself in front of her vanity, she waited paitiently while her hair was coiled, pinned, braided and otherwise fixed up in an intricate pattern she could never have accomplished on her own. She gushingly thanked them and proceeded to apply the smallest amount of makeup. A little shadow to accent her blue eyes, a little blush to accent her cheeks and a little perfume to interact with her natural scent.

She held her arms above her head while the dress was dropped over her, without even slightly coming in contact with her recently coiffed do. She waited while she was zipped up and then checked her reflection. She smiled and nodded primly. Decent enough for having foolishly slept in. Stepping out on the balcony to wait, she began to sing. The birds chirped and sang along, flying around her head or perching on the railing.

She heard the quiet knock on her door and her heart almost stopped beating. Closing the doors to her balcony she walked toward the door, taking deep calming breaths before she opened the door. With a little help from her animal friends, the room had been tidied and she wasn't ashamed for him to see inside.

"Good morning, Prince Legolas." She noticed the circlet on his head and admired it. It was so beautiful, shiny and perfectly formed. "I'm ready." She stepped out into the hall and shut the door behind her. "Where are we going?" She held her hand out so that he could take it and settle it in the crook of his elbow, as she was accustomed.

His fears that she would still be asleep were quickly set to rest as the door opened, revealing a room that was, in fact, as she had said, all pink. It suited her, he decided. She was obviously ready to go, and when she held out her hand, he took it. He didn't immediately take her arm, though. First, he bowed slightly over her hand, and raised it to his lips. Only once he had brushed a light kiss over it did he settle her hand in the crook of his arm, and smile at her.

"Greetings, lady. You look beautiful, as it seems you always do."

He had thought a lot about the best place for them to watch the sunrise was, and had come to the conclusion that down by the lake would be lovely. He liked the lake. It reminded him of a similar place near his own woodland home, even though that place was far from where he was. It was still pleasant to be around, and would offer them a nice view of the rising sun, one that he had not had the pleasure of having yet. Usually, he watched the sun rise from his bedroom.

"I thought it would be lovely to watch the sunrise by the lake, if you have no objections, lady Giselle."

He looked down at her, waiting for her response to his suggestion. After all, she had been her longer than him, and presumably knew the place better than him. It would make sense for him to take any suggestion she had under advisement. Anyways, as long as they saw the sun rise, it would all be alright with him.

Her grin was wide when he kissed her hand and then settled it in the crook of his arm. She could feel the blush radiate up from her neck through her cheeks, especially when he added the compliment about her beauty. She ducked her head modestly, still smiling. "Thank you."

He looked quite handsome as well, though she thought it might be too forward to say anything. And it might sound like an afterthought to his own compliment. So, rather than comment on the way he looked, she decided that a compliment on the circlet about his head was in order. "That's a beautiful crown, Legolas. What is it made of?" It was a metal she'd never seen before.

She nodded to his suggestion of the lake. "I think that would be lovely. I haven't been down by the lake very much, but it allows a wider view of the horizon. We would have a better experience with the sunrise there." She smiled up at him as they exited the lodging unit and walked across the grass toward the lake.

The morning was warm, even though the sun was not yet up. It was pleasant. "How have you been spending your time since your arrival, Legolas?" She had been told she had to go bowling with four others she wasn't familiar with, except Jun. And yesterday she had spent some time in the art gallery with a man who called himself the Doctor.

The blush was not something he was familiar with, having not spend a lot of time with humans. It wasn't an elven trait, just one of the many things that made elves, though they looked human enough on a surface level, very different from humans. He sensed she wasn't displeased, though, so he didn't mention it. He would, however, he decided, keep his eyes open in case she seemed like she was going to do anything else strange. Perhaps she was ill? She didn't seen ill.

"You're quite welcome, my lady. The crown? It's made of a metal the dwarves mine, mithril. It's rarer than gold, and easier to work. My father might miss it more than he will me, actually."

His comment, though it could have been taken bitterly, was said in a light-hearted, joking sort of voice. His father, he knew, would miss him much more than any piece of metal, no matter how valuable. It was one of the things that made him a little sad about being here. In general, though, he wouldn't let himself feel much of anything negative. It was no fun.

"The lake, then."

He walked beside her towards the east, where the lake was. The sky in that area was already lightening noticably by the minute, and the clouds shone with beautiful colors. Legolas smiled as they reached a small hill very close to the sandy lakeshore. He swept off his velvet cloak, which wasn't needed in the warm pre-dawn, and spread it out on the grass to provide a place for them to sit.

"If you please, Lady Giselle, sit. My time has been spent... well, it has been interesting, to say the least. The people here are very strange to me." He laughed softly. "I think I must be to them, as well. Yesterday, I went rafting with a very strange man with bizarre teeth, a young human female, and a slightly older one. And you?"

"Dwarves?! Oh, how wonderful. I've known a few dwarves myself. Aren't they just delightful? The ones I knew mined for diamonds, and a few of them weren't the happiest, but they were still good friends." She wanted to touch the crown, to feel the metal, but she could see that it held a certain sort of reverance. Especially when Legolas said that his father might miss it more than his own son. She smiled, understanding that he was probably just kidding about that.

As they approached the hill, Giselle pulled her hand from his arm and stepped a few feet away so that she could stretch out her arms and twirl. Her face tilted up toward the sky she grinned. She spun until she was a little dizzy and laughed. "It seems like it is going to be a wonderful day, doesn't it?" There seemed to be no trace of humidity, now. Not like there had been yesterday.

She watched him unfurl the cloak and gesture for her to sit down. She sort of gracefully fell into a sitting position, tucking her legs to the side and covering them demurely with her skirt. She settled her hands in her lap and watched him sit down. As he answered her question, her eyes went toward the sky.

She looked back, smiling at him with the lightening sky's colors thrown against her pale skin. "Interesting. I should like to meet the man with bizarre teeth, and the females you speak of. Did you have a good time rafting?" She wasn't sure she knew exactly what rafting was. But, she didn't really care about the activity so much. "I went bowling. I've never been bowling before. It was a game, meant to knock several pins down with a heavy ball. My fingers are still a little sore, and it's been two days." She grinned and rubbed the offended fingers.

"I met some interesting people as well. A man named Christian, he's a writer. He writes about romance and Paris. That's where he's from. And Tyler, he said he was studying to be a doctor, and he was from Canada. Jun, I have known for a few days now. Have you met him? Wonderful boy with green hair and the strength of many men put together. He works in the restaurant here. Just because he wants to. Can you imagine?" She giggled and returned to her explanation of the people she'd met. "And there was this lovely girl by the name of Katara. She said she was from a water tribe, and she could manipulate water in all its forms. Isn't that fantastic? I should like to do something like that. I think it would be quite amusing."

She finished speaking with a soft sigh and turned her eyes back to the sky as it began to grow brighter with the rising of the sun on the horizon.

"In my land, long has there been a sort of rift between elves and dwarves, though we are both goodly folk. I do not believe anyone really remembers why this happened, but recently, I have decided it does not matter now. I made a friend, a dwarf named Gimli, and he is a good companion."

He watched as she spun around, smiled, and stretched his own arms up towards the rapidly-lightening sky. She had so much energy, more than he'd even seen in other humans, let alone the long-lived elves.

"Yes, my lady, I believe it will be a good day. This land reminds me of the plains of Rohan, only the people are much stranger here."

Seeing her longing glances towards his circlet, he slid it off his own blond head and settled it on her fiery locks. The silvery metal gleamed there, and he smiled softly. Beauty delighted him, and this woman definately had it, even if she was a human. The circlet had some magic about it, and shrunk to fit her head perfectly.

"Rafting is something I have often done in my travels, and yes, it was quite enjoyable. I was the only one who had done it before. The rest wore these strange jackets to make them float." He shrugged the whole trip off. It had been a lot of fun, really, and he would remember it always, but right now wasn't the time to be remembering it. "Bowling... what a strange word. I've never heard of such a thing, although if it hurt your fingers, perhaps I should... duel the bowling balls! For daring to harm you!"

He laughed, having no idea really what a bowling ball was, or how big it was. But he was amused by the idea of fighting one. He really didn't tend to take much of anything seriously.

"Those sound like interesting people, though I have never heard of this 'Paris' or 'Canada'. I do not believe I have had the pleasure of meeting any of them. Perhaps I should seek them out." He frowned thoughtfully. "My people can manipulate the water and the earth, to some extent. I do not have that magic, though. I should like to meet this water manipulater."

The sun broke above the horizon and seemed to set the horizon on fire. With a smile on his face, he started singing a song that his people had been using to greet the rising sun since nearly the beginning of time. The words, of course, where elven, but translated here as was all language.

She smiled when he told her about his friend Gimli. "Oh, I am glad that he's your friend. It would be terrible to continue in a disagreement no one recalls the start of." She looked up as the circlet was placed upon her brow, over her own red hair. She gasped softly and tried to look up at it and only succeeded at making her eyes ache. "Oh." She said, reverently and softly as it tightened on her head to fit perfectly.

She giggled at his notion of dueling the bowling balls. "Oh that would be a sight. They would not put up much of a fight, I fear. They are not like the golems. They are simply heavy balls." She explained. "It was fun, though."

She screwed her mouth up slightly as she thought about explaining Paris and Canada to the elf. But, she decided against it eventually. Her intrest in the places didn't last very long and she was much more interested in what Legolas had to say and the rising of the sun than anything at the moment. "Oh, Katara is wonderful. You would like her, I think. She's a darling girl."

She listened slightly to his song as the sun peeked over the horizon and shed it's glorious light on the land surrounding them. Glinting off the water and illuminating the dawn. It was wonderful and she shut her eyes against it. After a few moments of listening to the melody, she began to hum a harmony. She didn't know the words to his song, but she could still sing along with sounds that meant nothing.

As she sang, however, a few animals came out of hiding and started to enclose them in a circle. As her eyes were closed, Giselle did not immediately notice them. Though, it wouldn't have frightened her if she had.

He looked over at her as the sun fully lit up the sky and his song came to an end. Elves have songs for all occaisions, of course, since they took joy in all things of nature. It was all perfectly timed, and somehow managed to work as well on Mirage.

"The circlet suits you, lady Giselle."

He left it on her head for the time being, and continued sitting on his cloak which was spread out over the grass. It was a beautiful morning. He looked around and laughed softly as he saw the animals surrounding them. They had been singing together once again, and it had brought out the small woodland creatures. Legolas wasn't alarmed by this, not in the slightest.

"Well, your bowling balls are safe from me. I do not duel opponants that provide no challenge. I would like to meet this Katara, she reminds me of some of the magic users of my people."

He made eye contact with a small rabbit, and spoke to it softly. After a few minutes, the timid creature came up to him and jumped into his lap. He stroked it's ears, then gently transfered it to her lap. He was good with animals. Although clearly she was, as well, since he'd never had them actually come out while he was singing alone.

Giselle opened her eyes as the song ended. The sun was fully up now, and shone brightly against them. She even had to squint a little. Going from the dark with your eyes closed to the bright sunlight could be a shock. She turned her face toward Legolas and grinned to find that he was looking at her.

She had almost forgotten she was wearing his crown, and she gasped slightly when he made mention of it, reaching up to touch it tenderly. She removed it and handed it back to him. It was rightfully his, afterall. She smiled. "Thank you for letting me wear it. It is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen."

It was then that she noticed the animals, almost at the same time he did. She clapped and grinned. "Hello, friends!" She was used to animals appearing when she sang. She wasn't sure why it happened, it just did. She was able to call animals to her with her song. And she did it now and then, especially if she needed their help with something.

She giggled when he said the bowling balls would be safe and leaned forward slightly when he spoke of Katara. "Oh, yes. I am sure she would be delighted to meet you. She is so sweet, and very bright." She nodded. It was generally difficult to put off a bad first impression with Giselle, but she had been particularly impressed by Katara. "Do your people use magic? I've known a few people who used magic before, but they were not the kindest. One old witch pushed me into a fountain, and then she tried to poison me with an apple!" Giselle was still a little steamed about it, but her scowl vanished as quickly as it had come.

Especially since a fluffy little bunny had been put into her lap. She lifted it to bring it's cute little face to her eye level. "Hello! Aren't you the cutest thing ever?!" She leaned forward and kissed the bunny on the nose, then cradled it in the crook of her neck as she looked back toward Legolas. "Can you speak to animals, too?"

He inclined his head to her in thanks, glad that his trust in her was warrented. Of course, he tended be a fairly good judge of character. Carefully, he settled the circlet of silvery metal onto his own head once more. Again, magically, it fit.

"You are quite welcome. It is when dwarves and elves work together that the most beautiful and precious things are made. This was created during a time of cooperation, and both dwarven and elven craftsmanship is in it."

He walked her with a slight smile on his face as she made friends with the tiny rabbit. Obviously, she was no stranger to animals, herself. Perhaps she'd been the one who had summoned them with her song. He could communicate with animals, but couldn't summon them as she apparently could.

"Yes, lady, there are magic users amongst my people. Most of them have, of course, left Middle Earth forever to go to Valinor, but a few have stayed. Their magic keeps the forests young and protected."

A frown crossed his fair features as he heard her talk about the experiences she'd had. He'd never been particularly close with a human before, but that didn't mean he was alright with them being forced to go places against their will, or even worse yet, poisoned. For that to happen to her was horrifying to him.

"It seems to me that, rather than wasting my anger on a large ball, it would perhaps be better served finding this witch and finding creative things to do to her."

He held out his hand to a small bird and whistled to it softly. It flew over onto his arm and perched on his wrist, even allowing him to stroke it's feathers softly.

"I can communicate with animals, although I cannot summon them to me, as you seem to be able to. That is quite a gift. The Valar must smile on you to grant you such power over these natural creatures."

Her attention was drawn to his lips as he spoke of the beautiful things that could be made when elves and dwarves worked together. "Tell me about the land you come from, Legolas." It was so interesting to her. Not only because this elf beside her was so engaging, but because he was from another land the same as she was. Her eyes rose from his lips to his own eyes. It wasn't seemly.

"What is Valinor?" She tilted her head curiously, lowering the small rabbit to her lap and stroking it there. The other animals settled down in a ring around them. It must have been quite a sight to see the two people surrounded by woodland creatures. "If all the magic users left your forest, would it die?" She worried about that and hoped that if it were the case, a magic user would always stay in Mirkwood.

She shook her head and smiled when he threatened to track down the witch and do "creative" things to her. She wasn't sure where the witch was, so that would be quite a quest. She sighed softly, "You don't have to worry about her. She fell off of a tower in New York and died. At least, I think she died." It was a tragic, sad waste of life in her opinion. The woman's magic could have been put to such good use. Instead, it had been used for evil.

She watched eagerly as the bird fluttered to his finger and allowed himself to be petted. "In Andalasia I could talk to them, and they could talk back. But, in New York I couldn't understand them anymore. Since I've been here, though, I've found that I can understand them again, but it isn't the same as in Andalasia." She looked down at the rabbit in her lap. "I don't know why they come when I sing. It has just been that way since I was young. Anytime I needed help or company, all I had to do was sing."

She looked up and smiled at him. "And what are the Valar? I have not heard of them. Would they smile on someone not of their land?" She was happy to be in the elf's company. He was very nice, and very hospitable. She felt comfortable in his presence.

Legolas, as many elves are, could be quite the storyteller when he was invited to do so. Since no one else was from his land, at least he could tell someone about it, and make it real for them in some small way. It was a chance he didn't intend to give up.

"I'm from a land called Middle Earth, which is filled with both beauty and great peril. In the East, there is a shadow coming from Mordor. It threatens to fill all of Middle Earth, and this is what my friends and I were fighting to prevent. As you go west, there are grassy plains, great forests, and mighty mountains. Most of the land is filled with the race of men, where it used to be my people. All things have their time, though, and this third age and onward will probably belong to the humans."

He looked over at her, wondering if he was weighting her down with too much information. She appeared to be listening, so he kept going, responding directly to her question this time.

"Valinor is in the far West of the world, and only elven ships know how to get there. It is a place of great happiness and contentment. I do not know what it is like, but deep in the heart of every elf there lies a desire to go to this wonderous land, and live in perfect bliss for all of time."

He stroked the bird, and whistled softly to it. It whistled back, and the elf laughed in delight. There were few things he enjoyed more than communing with nature like this.

"Was she a human, as you are? Because then, at least, she has the gift of Iluvatar. Perhaps, she can even be saved after death, and made into a good person."

"In Adalasia, the animals actually spoke? In voices, as you and I are doing?" He glanced around at the woodland creatures surrounding them, wondering if they would suddenly start doing so here. They just looked calmly back, so the elf shrugged and continued petting the small bird on his wrist.

"It is a great ability indeed, my lady. Only the greatest amongst my people can actually summon the animals to them. You are an incredible person." He smiled at her and reached out with his free hand to softly touch the bunny she still held. "The Valar are the powers, the queens and kings that shape the course of Middle Earth. They are the divine beings that serve the greatest power, Iluvitar."

He stopped talking for a second. It was harder than he would have thought to explain to someone about the Valar. Everyone in his own world knew about them already. He wasn't sure he was doing them any justice.

As Legolas began to tell her about the place he came from, Giselle closed her eyes. She began to imagine what it looked like without the environment around her influencing it in any way. She pictured the shadow, the grassy plains and great forests. The mountains towered over everything in her vision. She nodded, and continued to keep her eyes closed, even through his brief pause.

She then imagined the beauty of Valinor and the reasons that the elves would wish to go there. She thought that perfect bliss was a good enough reason. Her eyes only opened when he heard Legolas whistle and the reply of the bird still perched on his wrist. She smiled, still stroking the ears of the bunny in her lap.

His question and the following statement threw her off a little. "Yes. I believe she was human. The Illuvatar?" She furrowed her brow with yet another word she wasn't familiar with. But, she thought that even if there was a glimmer of goodness in Narissa she could be made into a good person. She smiled at this thought.

Giselle nodded enthusiastically. "Yes. My little friend Pip, he was a chipmunk, had a wonderful voice. I miss Pip." She regarded him as he once more began to tell her about his people and the power to call animals to them. She flushed again at the compliment, ducking her head. "As are you, Legolas." She lifted her head to smile at him, her cheeks still slightly pink.

"We had Kings and Queens in Andalasia. But, they weren't divine beings. They were just regular people. I was almost a Princess there myeself." She quirked another smile, thinking of Prince Edward. She wasn't in love with him anymore, and was glad in some ways that she had been pushed into the fountain by Narissa and ended up in New York. She'd met Robert and Morgan there. They were the most delightful people.

She let the bunny go from her lap and leaned back slightly, resting on her hands. "Are there elven Princesses?"

This woman was, quite probably, the most active listener he'd ever met. She wasn't just asking questions to be polite, she actually cared and wanted to know. In his experience, this was a rare thing, either in elves or in humans. He laughed softly, though, at her gently-inquiring question about Illuvatar.

"The power that made the world, Illuvatar. All the Valar are servants."

He smiled, pleased by the compliment she'd offered in turn, as well as the devotion she showed to her little chipmunk friend. He inclined his head in graceful thanks to her before raising his wrist and allowing the bird to take flight.

"Almost a princess? So, you were to marry a prince, then. Am I correct?"

He looked at her, not really overly bothered by the question of royalty. After all, he was, and had always been, a prince among his own people. It was just something that had always been, and would always be, like the sun and the stars.

"Yes, there are elven princesses, although they are rare. Arwen, the Evenstar, daughter of Elrond, was to be married with me until she fell in love with someone else. I had never met her, and wish her all the happiness she can find with her new love. She is a princess, though she will have to give that up. Of course, she will be giving it up to be a queen." He thought for a bit, then laughed and shrugged. "I think she might be the only elven princess left on Middle Earth. The Lady Galadriel and Lord Celeborn have a daughter, Celebrian, but she married Elrond and, anyways, she has left Middle Earth forever."

He smiled, but a little sadly, before he spoke again.

"You see, Lady Giselle, there are very few elves of any type left in my land, let alone royalty. Valinor has the majority of my people, now."

"Oh." She smiled, understanding. She hadn't been aware of any powers that made Andalasia. She didn't know anything of divine beings. But, she could understand a power great enough to create a world. Isn't that what this Planet had done? Sort of.

"Yes, Prince Edward. His step-mother, Narissa, she was the one who pushed me into the fountain that took me to New York. She was afraid that we would try to take her kingdom away from her. At least, that's what I understand." She shrugged. She had been brought to Mirage just after Narissa fell to her death and before she realized she was truly in love with Robert. She didn't know where Edward was now, but she hoped he was happy.

"You almost married a princess, then." She smiled dreamily. Any and all things related to romance made her all doe-eyed. "Is Arwen the daughter of Celebrian?" She was trying to put the lineage together. If Elrond was married to Celebrian and Arwen was his daughter, then it fit in her mind. But that wasn't always the way it went.

She watched him and her heart strings twanged at the sad smile on his face. "Do you want to go to Valinor, Legolas? To be with the rest of your people?" She wondered if he would be able to find an elven princess there that he could be with. But she didn't know anythning about Valinor. She wasn't sure if they went there and forgot everything they knew, if they got to see their families again, if they could reproduce there or feel anything but bliss.

"Oh, I see. What a horrible thing for her to do."

He looked at her intently, wondering how she could be so happy when she'd been brought, not only to one new world, but to two. And away from a person she'd been intending to marry. From his understanding, she would never see her prince again. It was very sad. And yet, she was so cheerful and upbeat.

"I did, yes, but I did not love her. It would have been an alliance between Rivendell and Mirkwood. I am happy that she has found love, though, for I had misgivings about marrying someone I did not even know, let alone love." He nodded, impressed by how quickly she'd figured it out. "Yes, Lady Giselle, the Evenstar is the daughter of Elrond and Celebrian. So, of course, Rivendell and Lothlorien are already linked, because Galadriel and Celeborn gave their daughter in marriage to Elrond."

He was surprised by her question, and stopped his easy sort of casual instruction of the elven royal families of Middle Earth. She had seen through the smile, it would seem.

"Deep in the heard of every elf lies a longing for the Undying Lands of Valinor, and I always assumed I would go there someday. However, now I am here, and to me, it seems that this is as beautiful a place as Valinor. There is no war here, no famine. Just beauty. I am content with where the Valar have sent me." He paused. "And you, Lady, do you wish to go back to Adalasia?"

Giselle shrugged. She really didn't think about it much anymore. It had given her nightmares right after, but she had other things to occupy her mind lately. Being thrust into a new land with a lot of fun and exciting new people, for one. The elven prince sitting in front of her, for another. She smiled brightly at him as he seemed to watch her for some sort of reaction.

She nodded at his answer. It made sense to her. She was the sort who fell in love at first sight, and unless something drastic happened, such as being taken to a completely different world, she stayed in love. "I thought I was in love with Edward at one point. But after I was sent to New York, I realized my feelings were not quite accurate. I kept expecting him to find me, but now I'm not sure why."

"Why is she called the Evenstar? It's a lovely name. Why should there be a need for an alliance? Are not all elves friendly?" She tilted her head toward him slightly. As she shifted the sun shone differently on the circlet on his brow, making it sparkle slightly. She grinned. The tiara she'd had on her head on her wedding day, right before she had been pushed into the fountain had been beautiful, too. But, that bad man had stolen it and run away with it.

She nodded again at his answer. "It is a beautiful place. Do you think it was your Valar that sent you?" She mused on his question before she answered. "I think that, like you, I expected to grow old in Andalasia. But after being to New York and now here, I don't think I do. Andalasia seemed so small compared to Mirage. I know it seems silly because Mirage is really not very big, but there are such a diverse range of people. It could never become dull and boring here." She shrugged again, then shifted her legs from one side to the other.

He frowned thoughtfully. He'd been alive for a long time, of course, and was nearing the time when most elves would take a mate. He had, however, never been in love, and had even been a little grateful when Arwen had fallen in love with Aragorn. It made things easier for him, for though the elven princess was charming and graceful, he didn't even know her.

"Did this Prince Edward find you, my Lady?"

He hoped he wasn't prying. This was her personal affair, after all. He was just curious as he was about everything, and wanted to know more about her.

"Her full name is Arwen Undomiel. In my language, the second part means 'Evenstar'. She is named after the star of evening, one of our most beloved stars. You see, the elves love the stars. We've been in love with them since we first awoke, after we were created. A lot of our names have to do with stars, actually."

The sun was up fully now, and it was a beautiful morning. Some of the animals wandered off, but most of them stayed around the human and the elf, sitting in a circle around them as they chatted.

"I do not know. I would like to think so, though, for that means there must be a reason I was sent here. It is a comforting thought." He frowned thoughtfully. "I do not grow old, my lady, but I had intended to live on Middle Earth until the longing to go to Valinor took me over. However, I cannot complain. I have met many interesting people that I never would have if I had stayed in my world. Some people are fighting to leave, but I think I shall not join them. I like it here."

"Find me? Well, yes, I suppose he did. A big troll was after me and as I climbed out onto the tree branch, I lost my balance and fell. It was lucky that Prince Edward was riding by when he did, for he caught me." She laughed softly. "We almost married the same day. But, as you know, I was pushed into a fountain before I could get to the ceremony."

She was very interested in Arwen. She felt a sort of kinship to her. Giselle had nearly been a princess and Arwen was one. "I love the stars, too." She grinned and looked up into the sky. Of course, at this time of day no stars could be seen, so she looked back to him. "Does your name have something to do with the stars, Legolas?"

"You don't grow old? How that must be." She mused. "You probably shouldn't marry a human then. You'll outlive her many times over." She grinned. "I have met many interesting people as well. I like it here as well as anywhere else. I think I should like to stay here, too."

"Tell me more about yourself, Legolas. How do you entertain yourself? What do you like to eat?" She leaned down slight, propping herself up on her elbow and stretching her legs out. They had begun to cramp bent in the same position for some time now.

"That is a quick wedding, Lady. Elves do these things much more slowly. The courtship process itself takes years, at times, and then there is a tradition of a seven year engagement before the wedding can even be planned."

He was, after all, from a culture that lives forever, and there was really no hurry for something like marriage. Time could be taken, to fully understand the other elf involved, and make sure you were truly compatible.

"So, lady Giselle. My name, Legolas, actually means 'Greenleaf' in the elven tongue. That is why I am sometimes called 'Greenleaf', though it is somewhat redundant."

He frowned thoughtfully and looked over at the human woman. She certainly had a lot of energy, which was a quality he could respect in anyone. He shifted slightly himself, staying comfortable, and kept looking at her levelly.

"Marriage has not been on my mind much, but I suppose that, yes, I will likely outlive most of the people I meet here. Well, let me see. I entertain myself mostly with hunting, music, and watching nature, much as any elf would. I also read often. I could read the books of my ancestors for an age and never grow weary." He laughed before continuing. "I love to eat sweet berries, honeycakes, and sometimes venison." He tilted his head enquiringly at her. "And what of you, Lady Giselle? Tell me of yourself. Everything there is to know."

She smiled slightly. "Yes. That seems to be the way of it in Andalasia." She listened as he explained the courtship process in the elven world. Her jaw dropped. "Seven years? That is quite a long time. I should think I would grow impatient."

She shook her head. She couldn't imagine such a thing. If she had to wait seven years, she would be old, and the time for bearing children would pass too quickly. But, she supposed that as elves didn't grow old, they had all the time in the world to court, marry and bear children.

She nodded at the explanation of his name. "I don't think mine carries any meaning. I am just Giselle." She smiled, not unhappy with this, but it would be much more interesting if it meant something.

"Does it trouble you that you will live longer than most of the people here? If we are to live here the rest of our lives, you could concievably be the only one here at some point. Although, if the Planet continues to bring people on a daily basis, you may never be alone." She giggled and then listened as he told of himself. And when he was done and asked her to reciprocate, she obliged.

"I sing, as you know. I also enjoy dancing. Taking long walks. Talking to the animals and cleaning up. I enjoyed shopping when Morgan and I went. And I also like to try new things. I like to read, but not as extensively as it sounds like you do." She grinned at him and then continued. "I tried pizza for the first time in New York and it was delicious. As well as hot dogs. They're not really made from dogs, though. But, before New York, I enjoyed fresh berries as you do, nuts and vegetables I grew in the garden." She shrugged. She wasn't sure what else to tell him, her life before Edward and Robert had been fairly calm and boring. It wasn't until after going to New York that she became a little more exciting.

"I see. Well, I do know that when a human and an elf are concerned, the process is rather quicker. Three times has it happened that a elf maid fell in love with a human man, and gave up the immortal life of her, and my, people. It is a very rare thing, and when it is done, some the the normal traditions do not apply."

He smiled over at her, glad to explain these things. It was nice, he thought, to speak of these things that, on his world, everyone already knew. She brought such an interesting energy to everything she did or said.

"Lady, you have a lovely name. Giselle... in my language, 'El' means star. So you are a lovely star." He nodded decisively at her. In his land, all names had meaning, so he was happy that hers did now, as well. He listened carefully to her next question.

"My Lady, I rarely allow myself to become troubled by something I cannot prevent. As well, I understand that there are vampires here. Do they not have eternal life, as well? I think I shall never be alone. And perhaps, someday, this planet will grow bored of me and move me somewhere else. That would be a great adventure."

Then, it was his turn to listen to her, and he did, intently. Though he loved being the storyteller, he also loved listening to stories equally.

"We have many of the same interests, my lady, for I sing and dance as well. I do not know what this shopping thing you speak of is, however." He tilted his head to the side as she kept going. "Pizza? Hot dogs? These are strange things, indeed. New York must be a bizarre land, indeed."

"Never an elven man with a human woman?" She was intrigued, but it seemed a little one sided. Were human men so enticing? She didn't think they were anything superior to elves. At least, not the elf she knew anyway.

She grinned brightly when he translated her name. "Lovely star." She sighed softly and put her hand to her chest, gushing slightly over it. "I love it, thank you, Legolas." She beamed at him.

"Vampires?" She scowled slightly. She didn't know what those were, but they didn't sound as nice as elves. "I don't know about the lives of vampires." She giggled at his voiced thought that perhaps the Planet would grow bored of him and toss him off somewhere else. "Maybe."

"Oh, shopping? It's where you go to different vendors and purchase things. Pretty things. Or maybe not so pretty things depending on your tastes. Morgan and I bought dresses and shoes. It was quite fun." She sat up slightly. "I'm not quite sure how to describe pizza and hot dogs. It's something you might have to experience for yourself. One of these days, you and I can go to the restaurant and we'll order it. Maybe you'll like it!" She grinned, shrugging.

Looking around her, she could see that the morning was fully upon them. The sun had risen well beyond the horizon and the animals that had earlier surrounded them had dwindled down to a few who were content to listen to the humanoids speaking to each other. She looked back at Legolas with a smile, but all the talk about food was making her hungry. Breakfast was in order.

Legolas frowned momentarily, and then searched his memory. Funny, he'd never heard of an elven male and a female human before. It always seemed to go the other way. Suddenly, he laughed.

"Now that you speak on it, I have never heard of it going that way. Strange. It is not that it could not happen, just that it never has." He smiled at her. "You are quite welcome, Lovely Star."

He listened to her explanation, but noticed when she spoke of food, that she had a slight look of hunger on her face. She was probably quite hungry, as it was getting towards mid-morning and they'd been sitting here chatting for ages.

"Yes, one day we should do that... but right now, Lady, I think that you need to go eat. Please, if you hunger, do not wait here for me. It is late. I would like to sit and watch the morning for awhile longer."

She shrugged when he said that he had never heard of an elven man falling in love with a human maid. There was a first time for everything.

She got to her feet and some of the remaining animals scampered off. She curtsied to Legolas and smiled at him. "I had a wonderful time, Legolas. Thank you for inviting me out to watch the sun rise with you. Enjoy the rest of your day." She waved to him slightly and then skipped off.

She had spent an extraordinary morning with a wonderful elf. She beamed as she headed for the restaurant to get some breakfast. She couldn't have planned a better morning if she'd tried.
