The Wild Side meme

Readers of fanfiction will recognize this set up straight away. Maybe your character's touched some cursed object they shouldn't have? Maybe they've ticked off the local witch? Maybe it's just in their blood and it's "that time" of the month? Whatever the case, it's time for a change and you just changed right in front of someone...

Fur, fangs, or tails. WHAT NOW?

« Post a comment: Character name, canon/fandom, and any preferences.
« Go to RNG and roll: 1-5 for the duration of the change, 1-4 for the awareness, and 1-25 for the critter they'll be wearing and/or...
« Wait for other newly changed critters to tag back.
« Tag around to other folks!

Duration:
1. A few hours.
2. A day.
3. A week.
4. A month.
5. A year.

Awareness options:
1. None - You've gone completely native.
2. Partial, but fading - You knew, a minute ago, but it's not so clear now...
3. Aware, but non-communicative - You know who you are, who they are, and what happened. Can you find a way to communicate?
4. Dr. Dolittle - You can understand them or they can understand you. Big deal. You're still a frog.

Domestic:
1. Cat - Common tabby? Dainty Siamese? Floofy Persian? You're aloof, stealthy, and the master of your domain. Dig into the catnip and purr, purr, purr.
2. Dog - Little, yappy chihuahua? Great Dane? You're loyal, playful, and eager to please. Who's a good boy? Huh? Who's it? Is it you? Yes it is!
3. Bird - Parrots, parakeets, and finches... Maybe you talk? Maybe you chirp? Maybe you just eat, shit, and rattle the cage bars?
4. Rabbit - Twitchy noses and a hankering for leafy greens. Mind your surroundings and don't eat the black jellybeans.
5. Hamster - The world is your Habitrail. Except during the day, you lazy, furry bastard.

Herpetological
6. Snake - Scaly, but not slimy. Poisonous? Constrictor? C'mon, get slinky.
7. Lizard - Still more scales, but you've got a leg up on your slithering brethren (probably four of them).
8. Toad/Frog - Can you convince anyone to kiss you?
9. Turtle/Tortoise - Slow down, speedy! What do you think this is? A race?
10. Alligator/Croc - Ain't she a beauty?

Small Exotics:
11. Bat - They're great survivors.
12. Ferret - Shifty little bastards. Hide your shiny objects and watch your toes.
13. Sugar Glider - Nervous, nocturnal little marsupials. Your one function in life is to be adorable. Go with it.
14. Skunk - When you get pissed off, someone else gets pissed on.
15. Tarantula - You look terrifying, but you break like glass. Watch your step. All eight of them.

Large Exotics:
16. Large cat - Lions, tigers, cheetahs, oh my! They don't make carpeted climbing trees in your size.
17. Bird of prey - Eagle, hawk, falcon. The sky's the limit. No, really.
18. Horse - Watch out for those Texans and their spurs. On the upside, you are your own transportation.
19. Primate - Monkeys, gorillas, baboons... have a swinging good time!
20. Canidae - Wolves, foxes, coyote. Bark at the moon, but watch out for the animal control truck.

Holy Crap!:
21. Kangaroo - G'day, mate.
22. Penguin - Dapper little chap.
23. Walrus - My, but you look cranky.
24. Panda - Your adorableness is exceeded only by your ability to snatch someone's face off...
25. Bear - Winnie the Pooh you ain't.

[Oh no....not him. Even if he was color blind, that didn't mean he'd forgotten someone like Blonsky.

Bruce tries to keep still but his canine body wants to shift nervously under the bed.]

[There's the movement again. He pulls his gun, trailing it along the wall before pulling the trigger, taking a few shots. It's not like standard rounds will do much more than piss him off anyway; best case scenario he hits something, worst case he just flushes it out.]

[The shots absolutely terrify him, right down to his canine instincts and before he can stop himself, Bruce is off and running for the door as fast as his four legs can take him.]

[A muttered curse, and a last shot at the dog (he assumes it's a dog, but he doesn't much care anyway), this one more well-aimed, and he snarls at the room because he'd been so certain Banner was here. So much for that plan.]

[The "dog" yelps at being shot in the flank, skidding to the floor as he tries to keep running.]

...why can't...you leave me alone???

[yes, that was Banner's voice. Though it trails off as the drugs kick in, his vision going hazy as he gives up trying to run. And just lays there, his sides heaving as his eyes close. Letting out a whine before he passes out completely.]

[He'd been about to leave, move on and try to pick up the trail elsewhere, except the voice stops him in his tracks. He glances around the room again, hackles rising because he doesn't see him, and then his gaze stops on the only other breathing thing in the room.]

...You must be bloody joking.

[He nudges the "dog" with his boot, but it doesn't move. He crouches down next to it to inspect it more closely, and it still doesn't move. He pulls the barb out, letting it drop to the floor, and lays his gun down next to him, and it still doesn't move.

What the hell is going on here?]

[It's a pretty thin coyote, reminiscent of Bruce's skinnier form really. He doesn't stir when prodded, full down for the count for at least 15 minutes.

There's paw prints all over this apartment, along with foot prints from Bruce. His clothes in a heap from where he transformed down instead of out this time.]

[15 minutes later and he's still going through the place. He can't get past the overlap of the two, the impossibility of it. So he keeps breaking off to check the place again, then coming back to watch the coyote, as if it will provide all the answers just by looking at it.

It's Banner. It has to be, it's the only conclusion he can draw, but. How?]

[Finally, the tail twitches...then the nose does, the coyote opening glazed eyes as he tries to struggle to his feet. Failing miserably. Maybe he'll just lay down here for a bit.]

[He doesn't whine at the voice. There's a low growl though of frustration. Bruce struggles again, trying to find his paws under him to get to the door. Run, he has to run....]

Ah. No you don't.

[He cuts off the exit, shutting the door to further block it, then takes up a post in front of it, watching Banner carefully.]

That really you in there, Banner?

[He backs up, wavering a bit but getting steadier. His tail between his legs as he tries to glare balefully at the blurry image of Blonsky in front of the door.

Maybe if he doesn't say anything, he'll just....go away.

Or shoot him again. Hopefully with a dart.

He tries to be as coyote-like as possible....not really knowing what that entails other than just standing and staring.]

I heard you. You spoke, and I'm not sure how that's possible, but you're not fooling me.

[The gun's still on the floor, Bruce; he's not shooting anybody right now.]

[He has his head down, ears tucked back as he looks up at Blonsky. The man looks so much taller from this angle.]

...maybe you're crazier than you thought. [It's said sullenly, even though Bruce's lips never move, Blonsky can hear him.]

[Wryly; he can't believe he's actually having this conversation.]

If I'm actually talking to a bloody dog? Probably.

[He cocks his head to the side as he evaluates.]

I think you might actually be more pathetic like this. And I didn't think that was possible.

[Before he can stop himself, Bruce emits a low growl.]

...coyote, not a dog.

[As if that would make a difference.]

If you take me to Ross, he will think you've lost it.

[Oh yes, Bruce can play this card. He'll just keep quiet if he's brought in as a coyote and Blonsky will look like the fool.]

What did you do?

[The coyote paces side to side a bit, not liking being enclosed. Much like Bruce.]

DNA tests. I can fix it...

[...he just doesn't have any hands to do so.]

[He considers this for a bit, then frowns.]

What do I have to do.

[Because Banner is of way more use to him human, even if he's not sure about his Science.]

Have you got a better idea? Unless you want to be a dog for the rest of your life.

[Yes, he knows Banner's not a dog. He just doesn't care.]

[Figures, he couldn't just kill him. He wanted Banner as himself.

It would seem they had a common goal at last. The coyote does another turn as if trying to think of another way before sitting.]

It's a mess, you'll have to clean off the desk.

[There's upended beakers but the residue shows the liquids long gone from inside of them. There's a few that he didn't touch off to the side and some turned over measuring cups, a bunsen burner, microscope...everything second hand or cobbled together.]

Have you done any lab work?? [Blonsky was a soldier, did he know anything about chemistry?]

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]soulisblack
2012-02-26 02:40 am UTC (link)
[He crosses over to the desk as requested, and starts righting things, removing what's no longer usable and separating out what is.

The question gains a derisive snort.]

I finished school; I've got the gist. And I can follow directions.

[info]smash_stuff
2012-02-26 02:43 am UTC (link)
[Following directions might be enough. Bruce hops up on the small bed so he can see the desk better, tail thumping as he tries to organize his thoughts.]

You'll need two containers, the burner active, the DNA solution marked 15g...don't touch it without gloves.

[Two of them demorphed would be even worse.]
