010. Caught in the act

Caught In The Act Meme
(Extended Edition)

We all masturbate, it's nothing to be ashamed of. It's also something most prefer to keep private. But sometimes, people forget to knock while we're in the middle of things, and awkwardness ensues.

* Post with your character's name and fandom in the subject line
* Others reply, stumbling in on you.
* You pick a reaction from the list below. (Or roll 1-10!)
* PROFIT!

(Warning: possible triggers beyond!)

REACTIONS:
1) Embarrassment Yeah, someone just caught you in a very private act and you kind of wish the ground would swallow you up. Now.

2) Anger How dare someone barge in on you without knocking! You'll give them a piece of your mind right now.

3) Excitement Exhibitionism happens to be a major turn-on for you, so you'll just continue~ Maybe even ask them to give you a hand, hehehe...

4) Apathy Big deal, it's not like they've been living in a bubble where they never knew masturbation existed, and if they were they had to find out about it sometime.

5) Squick Either it was a family member who just walked in on you or you just feel so utterly dirty at having been caught doing something so personal.

6) Delayed reaction You didn't even notice they were there until after you finished.

7) Derailed reaction Oh no you've been--what is that on their head? Wait, the world's ending now? D-did you just see that unicorn? Worry about being caught later, figure out what the hell is going on first.

8) Frustration COME ON, EVERY TIME!

9) Relief Thank GOODNESS someone came by! Otherwise you'd have had to stop and go grab that toy/pillow/remote for the annoying stereo yourself. Also they could maybe swap discs because this movie isn't really doing it for you. What do you mean it's inappropriate? It's not like you're asking them to watch.

10) Wildcard! You know the rules!

Mary took a deep breath, trying her best to avoid thinking about what she'd seen. It was proving rather difficult.

"No, I apologise for barging in," she said. "I was just - confused about my strange arrival here, and I was sure you would know how it happened."

"Please, have a seat." He pulled out a chair for her. "I would offer some coffee, but... with my steward's cooking, that would be dangerous," he added with a short laugh. "I have to admit, though, my lady, I am just as confused as you. But in the interim, you are welcome to my cabin. I shall bed down with the men."

She took a seat, laughing lightly. She very much appreciated the attempt to lighten the mood.

"I - thank you, Commander," she said, flushing again. "I am sorry to put you out."

She shook her head. "I cannot understand it. I was in my room - I felt ill - and was lying down for a while before I needed to dress for dinner. When I woke, I was on your ship - and rather far from Yorkshire, I presume."

"Yes. Quite a large distance," he said softly. It made no sense. How a noblewoman could suddenly just appear on his ship, in the middle of the ocean...

Mary looked around the room. Something seemed to be strange about it - well, something else seemed to be strange. But she couldn't quite put her finger on it.

"I should send a telegram home," she said. "So they don't worry too much back home. Though how I will explain it, I don't know."

"A what?" He stared at her for a moment. 'Tele' was a greek root for distance. He frowned, considering.

"A telegram," Mary said, her unease growing. "I would have assumed a war ship would have the ability to send one."

She glanced around the room. "And perhaps gas if not electric lighting. And possibly... Less wood."

She looked at Horatio again, taking in exactly what he was wearing. "And - your clothes," she said. "This - this is all very strange, even worse than I had imagined."

He shot her a concerned glance. "Lady Mary, are you feeling alright? I fear your ordeal must have confused you." Of course his ship was wooden. What else would it be? Metal sank. Sails couldn't propel that much mass.

She shook her head. "I - I don't know," she said. "I - I think -"

She looked at him. He was going to think she was mad. "I have to ask you something, and it will sound very strange. What - what is the date?"

He thought for a moment. At sea, sometimes the days blurred together. "February third, 1803."

Mary felt the blood drain from her face, her hands gripping the chair to keep herself upright.

"Goodness," she murmured. "1803? But - when I was home, when I drifted off, it was 1913. How is any of this possible?"

He looked at her doubtfully. There was no way that that could be the truth. She was quite obviously mad.

She shook her head. "Don't look at me like that," she said, sternly. "I am Lady Mary Crawley. I was born at Downton Abbey on the twelfth of December 1891. I - I don't know how I arrived here, but it's true. It's all true."

"It is also impossible for someone to be instantly transported from one place to another, yet moments ago you seemed to accept that had happened," she pointed out.

She took a deep breath. "You have been at sea for ten days. I have clearly not been on this ship for ten days. Even if I had hidden away on board I would show some outward sign of doing so.." She smoothed her skirt almost pointedly - slightly creased from where she had been lying on the bed but otherwise pristine. Everything about her was, actually - from her hair to her fingernails.

"Why not? If I can be transported hundreds of miles in an instant by some unexplainable force, why is the concept of time travel so foreign.'

She shook her head. "None of this makes any sense," she said with a sigh.

She sighed, shaking her head again.

"What will I do?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "I won't be born for another ninety years. My father won't be born for another sixty. Granny... forty years. Where can I go?"

She managed a slight smile. "I - appreciate it, very much," she said.

"I'm clearly lucky to have found myself on your ship. Perhaps not entirely lucky," she added. "But if I had to end up on a strange ship almost a hundred years before my time, I am glad it was this one."
