Good Ending/Bad Ending meme
Do you get a happily ever after? Or a 'Rocks fall, everyone dies'? Why not both?

* Post your characters and set up two scenes. One with an ideal setting (They got what they always wanted, hit it big, became rich and famous, etc.) and one with a bad twist of events (They're homeless, everyone hates them, maybe they're even dying!).
* Others respond to one of the two settings (Or both in different comments, if they want!)
* Respond.
* ???
* Profit!!!

Just remember: no ending is set in stone, good endings can turn sour, and bad endings can be made better. Just see where it takes you and enjoy the ride!

Shaw smiles one of those proud fatherly ones he seems to have hidden somewhere just for Erik. "My best pupil. Of course."

He does, however, see Emma a fraction before she is yanking the helmet off and sends a burst of energy right into her, throwing her ten feet away as she tried to turn into her diamond form first. It only just keeps her from a catastrophic death.

And then Shaw is frozen in place, unable to move as Charles clamps down on his mind. Charles grimaces, concentrating. "I cannot hold him for very long..."

"I won't need very long." He replied, stepping forward again, closing the last few feet between himself and Shaw. His fingers twitched, ignoring the fact that he was bleeding, having ripped more of his stitches with the previous movement. Right at the moment it was inconsequential, he couldn't even make himself care about it, even though he knew he should, since it could lead to his going into shock.

He had more important things to worry about at the moment. He knew that with Shaw frozen in time as he was, he wouldn't have to worry about the man's ability to absorb kinetic energy. But even so he knew he'd have to work fast so that Shaw didn't slip Charles' hold on him. There was so much in the pile of rubble that he could use as a weapon he almost couldn't decide.

Until he got ahold of a scrap of sheet metal, that was. His smile was grim, more than a little predatory and a far more dangerous expression than Charles was likely to have seen from him before, wholly focused on his task. It took three blows before the sheared edge of the sheet finally got all the way through, severing Shaw's head.

Erik sagged once it was done, whatever reserves he'd been running on were clearly used up.

This time....Charles doesn't stop him. He holds on as long as possible, only able to half stifle the scream transferred through Shaw to himself. He falls to his knees at the end, the pain finally ending as Shaw drops down. Dead.

Charles struggles to his feet, trying to catch Erik in time but he's pretty wobbly himself. The two of them go down into the snow in a heap. And for once, Charles decides to stay down for a bit. He reaches over to give Erik a pat on the back. "Good plan..."

Erik was shaking, a fine, all-over tremor, likely it was some combination of shock, overexertion and cold, likely there was no small measure of relief in there as well.

It was finally over. Something he'd vowed to do decades ago had finally come to pass, and he wasn't entirely sure what he thought about it. What he said, finally, was: "We should go before we freeze."

Emma is starting to come around and Charles is glad they all seem to be in one piece. "Right...freezing to death at this point would be a bit embarrassing." He tries to make light of a very dark situation as he helps Erik to his feet.

His own head still hurts from feeling what Shaw felt moments ago. It's all he can do to make himself walk around the body and get on the snowmobile. He wants to leave this place and never. come. back.

"Counterproductive." He replied with a nod, the previous hysteria threatening to come back, cracked amusement already bubbling up in his chest, but he forced it back down, taking a deep breath, the pain in his hand starting to seep back in around the edges of his senses. His brow furrowed glancing down at it finally, shaking his head before just setting his palm flat on the snow they were both sitting in, cold to numb it, slow the bloodflow.

Charles is busy pulling out a warm coat for himself and one for Erik out of the storage compartments in the snowmobiles. Emma is putting one on herself, white of course. Charles and her exchange a look along with telepathic messages, him thanking her for leading him here. With that, she zooms off and Charles does not stop her.

A first aid kit comes out of the compartment next. "Let's see that hand."

Erik knew that there were worlds of communication in that glance, but he wasn't going to interrupt nor to argue. He just gave Emma a nod of thanks himself before she went on her way.

He blinked up at Charles' statement, brow furrowing for a moment, something like shock had started to set in and it was taking him longer than it should to process simple requests, but he did, finally, offer his hand over.

The dozen or so stitches along the side of his thumb and the heel of his hand had all torn, as well as a couple of the ones on the outside of his wrist, but the remainder of the ones on the thumb side of his wrist, as well as the ones across his wrist were still intact.

Erik could probably guess what sort of deal Charles had made to find him from that small exchange.

Charles sits him down on the snowmobile and puts a flask of brandy in his uninjured hand before setting to work on bandaging his other hand. "Save some for me," he says offhandedly as he works. The brandy's a stimulant to try and keep him awake and lucid till they can get out of this place. Last thing he needs is to fall off the snowmobile mid-escape.

[mun would like to point out this only helps in the movies, drinking brandy in cold weather was proved by mythbusters as a bad idea :3]

He could guess, and he wasn't going to argue, not if it meant she might be an ally in the future, or at the very least not an enemy.

He nodded once, the movement slow and careful, taking a healthy gulp from the flask before handing it back, "Where are we going now?" After all, this place was a crater, and would be one for some time yet.

[Any sort of alcohol in cold weather is a bad plan, especially if you are outside in the elements. Unless you're a Big Damn Hero™ of course.]

Charles ties off the bandage nicely and snags the flask for a gulp of his own before returning it into Erik's hand. "An airstrip fifty miles west of here. The Blackbird is parked there." Hank was waiting there too with a mug of hot cocoa in hand likely.

He hops on the snowmobile, letting Erik get on the back before starting it up.

He nodded, managing to get himself settled without tearing any more stitches. Fifty miles, that wasn't so far, in a general sense, and after what they'd survived this far it might as well have been a trip down the block.

To be absolutely certain, Charles is pulling out a small rope and tying the two of them together around their middles. "I realize this means if I fall off, so do you...but hopefully this will increase our chances of staying on."

And they're off! Through the snow covered wasteland of Russia.

He nodded, it made sense really, that way neither of them would get lost. Mostly because like Charles had said, if one of them fell they both would.

Erik had already made a vow to himself that he was never coming back to these frozen wastes again. Ever.

Charles agrees with that sentiment. The further they got from this place, the better. Shaw's body would never be found, that's for certain.

It's a cold journey, good thing they have their warm thick coats. Charles follows the tracks made previously back towards where the Blackbird is parked. It's a long trip though by snowmobile and it's nearly nightfall by the time they reach the airstrip.

He brings the snowmobile to a halt near the one light in a wooden shack next to the strip.

Even with the coat, Erik's face was fairly well numb by the time they arrived. But they'd arrived in one piece, and that was really the important part, he could worry about the rest later.

Charles gets off the snowmobile and hurries to get the door open to the warmer indoors. He comes back to help Erik up and into the shack, towards the fire.

He almost lost his balance for a moment before rallying himself and remembering how legs were supposed to work, and walking too. But he sorted it out before he could topple.

He was glad to get inside at any rate, taking as deep a breath as he could manage, trying to keep alert even with the exhaustion seeping in around the edges, it had been a long day on top of an exceptionally long almost-year, and there was a good chance that he'd nodded off once or twice on the trip.

Charles gets him inside and slams the door behind them, helping him to a wicker sort of chair covered in animal furs. "Brrrr...." he tries to pull his gloves off and warm them over the flames, getting some feeling back into them. "We'll warm up and then get to the Blackbird." It may be cold but it was clear skies, they would be home before sunrise.

Erik managed to sort out his own gloves after a moment, stretching and curling his fingers, getting the blood flowing to his extremities again, "How long has it been?" The question was quiet, and clearly he didn't just mean since they'd left the crater that had once been Shaw's headquarters.

Charles pokes at the fire and rubs his hands in front of it as well. "Months...it's been months." And yet, now it didn't seem so long at all, now that Erik was safe.

He just nodded, he'd suspected as much, honestly he'd suspected longer than that, it had felt longer. He stretched his fingers again, still careful with the injured hand, reminding himself that he'd have to keep being careful with it until the torn stitches could be repaired.

"Felt longer."
