Good Ending/Bad Ending meme
Do you get a happily ever after? Or a 'Rocks fall, everyone dies'? Why not both?

* Post your characters and set up two scenes. One with an ideal setting (They got what they always wanted, hit it big, became rich and famous, etc.) and one with a bad twist of events (They're homeless, everyone hates them, maybe they're even dying!).
* Others respond to one of the two settings (Or both in different comments, if they want!)
* Respond.
* ???
* Profit!!!

Just remember: no ending is set in stone, good endings can turn sour, and bad endings can be made better. Just see where it takes you and enjoy the ride!

He pinched Charles' shoulder, "You're being contrary just to be contrary, aren't you?"

He pulls away from the hand on his shoulder and gets up moving to the window away from the metal bender, "No. I'm stating fact, Erik. You don't mean anything to them or anyone anymore." Except for him but he wasn't sure he wanted to admit it in that moment.

His jaw tightened, straightening, "If that's the case, you should hardly deign to stay in my company." He flicked a hand before folding his arms, "You're dismissed." It wasn't a tone he used often, at least not towards Charles, something solid and final and not open to discussion.

That gets a slight laugh out of the telepath, "You can't dismiss me like some lackey, Erik. I don't follow your orders nor do I work for you. You should do well to remember that."

"I just did." He replied, turning away from the telepath then to pick up his tumbler once more, padding across the room to survey the view once more.

"I know what you did which is why I've no intention of listening. I am NOT some lackey for you to try and control," he grounds out moving toward the metal bender. "So don't try and act like you can control what I do or don't do."

Erik would have argued, but instead he just walled off all but his surface thoughts in exactly the way Charles had taught him to do.

After all, if he didn't matter to anyone, he didn't matter to Charles either, which was, he felt, what the telepath had been getting at.

Charles swallowed hard when some of that brilliant mind was closed off to him. Everything he was used to being able to feel was gone and it makes him stumble back a bit catching the edge of the desk. He hadn't expected that to hurt and in a way it did.

"Erik... What're you doing?"

"Does it matter?" There was just the slightest stress on the word, sipping at his drink once more, refusing to even look at the other man right then, tone clipped, cold.

That cold clipped tone causes him to wince, "Of course it matters, Erik. Don't do this, please." Don't shut him out like that.

"You really should make up your mind, Charles." He said, tone still even, colder than it really should have been, "Because either I matter or I don't. You can't have it both ways."

He was really starting to hate that tone. It hurt far worse than what it really should. "I never said that you didn't matter to me, Erik." He'd said that the man didn't matter to THEM. To everyone else but he'd never said that the metal bender didn't matter to him.

He did turn to the other man then, brow arching, "Decide, Charles. Either this matters, or it doesn't. This isn't something you can be on both sides of."

"And if I decide that it doesn't matter. What then, Erik? What will you do then?" More like 'What will you do to me then' but he doesn't say that. He could be on both sides if he wanted to be. That was his decision.

"I believe I already said you were dismissed." Which was answer enough, especially in that tone.

"You'd throw me away just like that after everything we've been through?" It's quiet and he's ignoring that tone.

"I said you didn't matter to THEM," he grounds out. "I never said you didn't matter to ME, Erik. There is a damn difference!" It's snapped even when he wasn't meaning it to be.

"I've said what I mean. You just keep throwing it at me and taking it the wrong way," he grounds out. "You have always mattered to me, Erik. But what we're doing here doesn't mean a damn thing to me and never will."

"Then that's what you should have said in the first place, instead of making sweeping generalizations that I could take the wrong way." His tone hadn't warmed much, if at all, but he'd started lowering the mental walls he'd just put up anyway.

"I didn't say anything that you could take the wrong way. You just decided to take it the wrong way when you shouldn't of," he says shaking his head before moving back to the window staring out it. "You've been doing that a lot lately."

"Have you always been this critical?" It was an honest question, if a little sharp, "And I've just never noticed it before?"

Charles, needless to say, ignores the question. He can't believe that Erik just asked him something like that. Has he always been this critical... what the hell... So he's just going to keep to the window. Until Erik forces him not to anyway. Or something else happens.

Erik just shook his head, finishing off his drink and setting the glass on the edge of his new desk, "What's the next step?"
