In a world where mutation has never been a dividing factor, where world governments have accepted and integrated powered individuals fully into civic life and mutation is an increasingly desired quality, the prestigious Charles Francis Xavier Academy and its associated University offer one of the finest educations in the world to those who manifest the most impressive, useful, and frequently dangerous powers. For the past sixty-five years, as the percentage of powered individuals in the population has steadily increased, graduates of the University have been moving into positions of influence in politics, industry, and the United State's elite military branch, S.H.I.E.L.D. While individual finance is no bar to attendance, and all suitably powered individuals are offered admission regardless of ability to pay, the prestige associated with an Xavier's degree is such that the social, political, and economic elite of the United States and its allies jockey to secure admission for their children, regardless of power status.
